There are many devices cheaper than that, that provide good performance for someone just starting out.

Hell, a couple years ago I bought a Blu starter kit for $75. The price came down fast as soon as they spread out a bit, but in the begining they were expensive.

Yeah, your kit is expensive because it's new type. Relatively, I think the popular types are cost-effective and easy to use.
