First Unregulated Dual 18650 (w/ Mosfet) Box Mod (Wooden)

Afternoon all.

Just about to start my first box mod project.

Decided to go with pine wood and the box will be around 90x50x30 (6mm thick pine).

Just ordered all my parts:
1x 12mm Stainless Steel Momentary Switch With Domed Actuator (Screw Connect)
1x Fat Daddy Vapes 510 v4 Low Profile Connector - Short (22mm Cap)
1x 15K Carbon Film Resistor
1x N-Channel Mosfet 195A/40V IRLB3034PBF
2x 15a Metal PTC Resettable Fuse
10x 2mm x 2mm Rare Earth Neodymium Magnets
1x Keystone 1048 Dual 18650 Battery Holder
1x 5m Enamelled Copper Wire 1.6mm 16swg

I plan on doing the wiring like the following -

I do have a couple of questions:

(Stupid question) - Will the copper short against the wood? Or will the wood have any negative affect on the circuit?
Based on the above answer, will I need to strip down the copper contacts on the back of the Keystone 1048 Dual 18650 Battery Holder, so they are not touching the wood?
Is the wire I'm using ok to use throughout the build? This is the wire I'm using (click 'wire')

The diagram I'm going to be following is this:

Without the on/off switch as thats not really necessary for me....

What exactly do the fuses do? I've seen very similar builds that don't use the 2x 15A Fuses...

Thanks for reading - Hopefully I'll get some pictures up during the build.

Cheers

Since it will be in wood, wires touching the box won't be a problem.
Most people cut those tabs off the Keystone looks better.
That wire should be fine, 14 swg is best but that 16swg you posted will be fine.
Fuses will protect the circuit if batteries are put in wrong way, or a wire touches another causing a short. ( I never use fuses) lol!
