ok i give up. Apparent @CJ has had a few days off since he didn't bother to respond to the issue. The forum is unusable to me at the moment. I will check back in a few days. But if someone can't bother to update us that they are working on it, then Im gone. @CJ said he couldnt replicate the issue then blame sit on the rest of the internet causing the problem.

Joe makes a crap load of money off this site with the advertising. He could at least keep the users and teh people who pay for advertising updated on this. I can't even get through a thread to the first unread message without waiting 3 minutes. trying to scroll through the new posts list to see hwats new is impossible

I can understand having issues, but tell us something
Excuse me? I replied to "the issue" and had already stated I am working on the problem via tracert from people with issues.

While I am not the VU IT specialist, I can tell you that the Admins and Mods are talking behind the scenes about this right now.

Its not like we are ignoring the issue just that we have NOTHING AT ALL to share with you at the moment.

Once we do have something and better yet have it fixed, we will let you all know what is going on!

Well you did have something to share, that there is a problem, even if can't say what the problem is, be nice if someone behind the scenes said we are working on it, instead of saying it is everyone's slow internet.

Now we know it is at least being looked into :)

Looked at the screen shot of the unresponsive script, this looks like a cloudflare issue to me. The dev guys are working on it.

I'm using Mozilla Firefox. Was always good on this site now I get the script error. I have found as soon as I click stop script it works again immediately. Sometimes the sites no problem. Seems like one particular thing causing it. I will try to nail it down.

I havn't had it freeze on me but it has stalled a bit in the last few days.

I'm far from an expert but I've been admin/mod on a few forums and it's been my experience that usually when a board starts to slow,it's usually a server problem.
I'm sure CJ has more experience than myself but that's where I would start.
This may be a dumb question but has the bandwidth been increased since the influx of new members?

Seems to be happening mostly on the Homepage. Maybe some of the ads?
Good call.
flash ads soak up BW like a sponge...
I've been slowed in other places but the HP and "new posts" do seem to be slower.

I could be a dick and say see ya later but I think this board is worth my complacency to let them work out a minor hiccup...
come back when they get it fixed.
until then,see ya later....

Or,...you could join ECF and see where that gets ya..

I used to get a script warning in firefox constantly
I use firefox for my eBay listing and selling and opera for VU, Facebook, etc...
It ended up being some bullshit skype plug in that was fucking up eBay on firefox.
If I were having this problem I would go to my plugins and disable each and every one that I do not use.

THANK YOU ALL, @vaporjoe,@cj,@unclerj,@5150sick,@zazazam.

Still being a pain in the ass to use the forum, but thank you for saying its being looked into and its not an internet issue.
@5150sick. Your suggestion has merits, but I find it hard to believe that so many people are suddenly running the same plug in that is causing the issue.

@Vaporjoe, while you and your team may not have changed something, the companies that you deal with from the people who host the site, the servers they use, the company that made the forum software, etc may have changed something, or not updated something to keep up with an update for a plug in, browser, etc.

I am no expert and annoying issues like this are a serious PITA, but THANK YOU again for stating that you are all recognize there is an issue and are working on it

Ill keep checking back.

if you use skype (or have windows 8 where skype is factory installed and updates automatically) delete any and all plug ins and extensions with the word skype in them.
You do not need them to use skype.

Download ccleaner and use it.
Wipe all your browsers down and come back fresh.
Your problem will probably be solved.

You can use the free one: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

I get it sometimes. Every 5 seconds or so there might be a half a second delay.
Kind of annoying when trying to type a reply.

I have noticed that killing the Adobe Flash Player process seems to make it go away.
but then as soon as you load another topic, the process starts again. Whether or not the lag starts again is random.

There seem to be a few things at play here from what I've gathered thus far;
  • Cloudflare is (at times) rendering some JavaScript files useless, thus causing the slow portions of lag or freezing to occur.
  • Flash is being basically destroyed by Google, if you use Chrome there is multiple problems going on with Flash right now, one of the best ways to resolve it is to disable the ADOBE version of flash (in Chrome extensions I believe) and ensure that only the Chrome version is enabled.
  • Cloudflare Firewall bug: If you utilize code even remotely close to a SQL query or the like, it will sometimes trip out Cloudflare and cause you to receive the 'You have been blocked' pop-up (which is caused by quotes as far as I can tell currently).
I believe the root of most of the issues is Cloudflare, but I will keep logging and debugging over the weekend.

Correct, Google now has their own version of flash as far as I can tell. Using Adobe's doesn't seem to help, and often will freeze more than just VU. I've had it occur on YouTube subscription pages, Facebook (on long conversations), etc.

Here's what I found strange. I've been using mozilla firefox for months on the forum trouble free. It's only been the last few weeks this started happening and I haven't changed or done anything different to my browser. I'm thinking it has to be something with the site. Why all of a sudden many people are having this issue when there was no prior posting about it? Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining I love the VU. My workaround is just to click stop script and it immediately works after that. No closing the browser or anything. Just clicking stop script and moving right along. So with that it's not a problem for me just one click. But I didn't have to do that before. Thanks for all the hard work trying to resolve this !

You also have the option to tell it to not ask you again with the script warning. It will still freeze for the same period of time but you don't have to interact with the warning dialog.

Thanks I'll leave it lol. At least I know as soon as I click on stop script it immediately works again. No waiting time !

It's very frustrating on my end. I don't even try to access the forum on my android phone anymore, nor the nexus tab, and I'm ready to pitch the iPad across the room....only smooth navigation I have is on the desktop with chrome.

ok tried with maxthon browser

the ads at the top of the page do not display due to maxthons built in ad blocking. it seemed to be working better that way for a bit, but then a few hours later its right back to the usual freeze ups

I don;t use maxthon much, it don't have any plug ins or extensions
this leads me to think this is not a browser related problem.

I'd like you to test and see if it only occurs while logged in, or if being logged in has nothing to do with it.

It just took a good 30 seconds to pull up the comment box. It freezes while I'm typing, and sometimes while typing (like just now), it freezes up and won't let me finish. Or I can continue to type while it's in the middle of a freeze - with no letters showing up as I do it - and when it decides to "thaw out" it will spit out the rest of my sentence. It has taken as long as 10 minutes to send a simple 4-5 line paragraph in a private message because it's in slo-mo.
And just today it posted my response to a pm three times!

i mean it is so bad i think whiskey is now recycling avatars.

@CJ honestly it seems random/. it works fine one minute then not the next. You could have no issues for 10 minutes then nothing but issues for 10 minutes, you could have nothing but issues, or experience no issues

Let's put it this way. Everything works fine while browsing from my tablet using adaway to block all content from "vaporjoesnetwork.com".

However, the site is almost unusable from my phone without the adaway blocking. Freezing, lagging, etc.

So its probably one of the stupid fucking ads.

(100Mbps cable here, so its not on my end)

I deleted all my skype while back. The only problem I have ever had is right here and this started aprox a week or so ago. All the other places i go no problem.

If you are one of the ones still having freezing problems try these two things separate and then together and give me some feedback please;
  • LOG OUT and see if the issue still occurs
  • Enable AdBlock / AdBlock Plus (yes this disables the ads)
Let me know if either of them rid you of the freezing.

Just enabled ad blocker and now things not freezing, so it does seem it is one of the ads causing the problems, but at least found a way to solve the problem for now :p

This should be pretty easy to figure out. Copy the URL from the ad's image and open each one in it's own browser window. The one (or more) that fails to load and lags out is the likely culprit.

This exactly.

It was like pulling teeth just to post this. And unfortunately I'm computer illiterate, I couldn't block an add with a bull dozer.
