OK. I've got the menu figured out but I haven't been able to get a good vape in TC with this little tank. If I turn down the temp, I have to turn the FSK up to about 7.5 to get it to fire so it's still a hotter vape than I'm used to. I've got it in digital watts mode for now until my rda gets here with some better coils.

in the meantime, I'm gonna have to mix up some juice with a LOT less nic. I'm experiencing a little bit of overload right now. :)

The temp and fsk, in xxx mode, do not have a direct relationship in the sense that a lower temp needs a higher fsk to fire. Fsk sets the coil TO fire. Say you like 420 degrees at 45 watts. Set that then set the fsk until the coil fires. Now 420 is a little hot and you turn it down to 400. It should still fire.

I know you are using raymo coils, really good coils. That could be why it is hot. They may need a higher fsk to fire consistent. I have no idea but if they have a lot of mass they will generate more heat than say a spaced 24g SS316.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

My rda hasn't got here yet so I'm not using Ray's coils yet which arrived in the mail this morning. Right now I'm using a spare GS Air 2 tank from one of my iStick Basics. It's just a 30 watt coil to begin with so I figured it wasn't strong enough for the TC to work right.

It's probably hot because I'm not used to a "real" vape yet. ;) I'm gonna have to work my way up. :)

If you can tc his you may have to set the watts higher so there is less lag time. You understand lag time with bulk. Just feel it out. You will be fine.

Enjoy.

BTW, nothing wrong with power mode.

30 watts and under I think most people prefer just using power mode instead of TC on most mods.

@joeyboy made a good recommendation. Set your temp between 420 and 450 and adjust your FSK from there. On my DNA and Yihi mods I am generally in that temp range so that is how I setup my FSK mods when in xxx mode as a guide.

yeah, funny story. As soon as my batteries charged, I stuck 'em in the G2 and started trying to learn all the settings and menu choices. I screwed on the tank and switched into XXX mode to try out the TC.

About that time my son-in-law came by and I was showing it off and hit the fire button to blow a nice cloud for him forgetting the temp was set on 700 degrees! To quote the illustrious @MannyScoot, I got throat fucked by Satan!

Needless to say that cotton is shot. As soon as the wife settles down from gardening all day I'll get her to put me in a new coil and I'll try TC again - this time at a more reasonable temp...maybe 300 to start with! ;)

I kept hoping the nasty taste would eventually fade but it's obvious it's not gonna so I'll try again shortly.

Is this your first TC mod or do you have previous experience with TC? The reason I am asking is that the G2 in FSK mode is a poor learning platform for someone who is just starting into TC. A temperature of 300°F shouldn't actually produce anything that even resembles a decent vape let alone clouds. ;)

Experience with one of the Plug and Play TC mods like a DNA, YiHi, or even the ChiNee Tri-Fecta of Joyetech, Wismec or Eleaf will give you a good starting point with what to basically expect from TC. The FSK chip can be quite finicky sometimes and will require occasional tweaks or resetting the cold resistance of your tank. If your build is not up to stuff or you have an atty that just does not want to play in TC (janky screws/posts) you will bang your head trying to get it dialed in with FSK mode. Whereas putting that tank onto one of the plug and play mods would immediately show a problem by dropping into power mode etc...

If you have an idea of how TC works on those mods, it is much easier IMHO to get the G2 tuned perfectly or diagnose when there are problems.

Either way, we are here to help!

Yeah, I'm a virgin. :) I've been using an iStick Basic which is just "charge the battery, fill 'er up with juice, and vape 'til it's empty" ! :)

I wanted the G2 because I've read posts from so many respected members here raving about how good it is. I knew it would be a learning curve but not impossible, right? :)

I've got some alien coils from Raymo2u here in front of me just waiting on my Innokin Eurus RDA to get here which is identical to the Desire Mad dog except for the engraving. Once it gets here, I'll assemble everything and go from there.

On a side note, this little tank I'm using - vaping the last half of the tank, I run it at 20 watts. When I fill it up I have to turn it down to 17 watts until about half a tank is gone or I taste singed cotton. I never let the tank get dry before I refill and even then it sits for a minute or so before
I hit the fire button. My juice is about 75/25 VG. I haven't noticed this before. Hopefully, Monday my rda will be here and this little tank will go back where it belongs.;)

Nothing is impossible to learn, especially when there is this great thread and mjag's first time user guide.

Well that is quite the jump from an iStick Basic to a pair of aliens in a dripper, good on ya!:D

The GS Air might not be feeding properly when it is full, could be why you have to turn down the power. I picked up a GS Air a year or more ago due to all the hype at the time. I don't even think I got through one full tank before it was cleaned, put back in it's box and piffed. Just not the tank for me, I did enjoy Kayfun's and Taifun's back then, but that GS Air brought back horrible memories of the Kanger Genitank. :giggle:

You're absolutely right about the GS Air2 not feeding the juice well. I probably got my VG a little high for it. Usually about 60 40 is ideal and I think I've got it around 75 25 so it takes a while to refill the wick.

Another thing, the G2 isn't really meant for such a small coil so the watts may not be accurate at low level. The istick is about 20 watts or so at full charge and never gives a dry hit as long as it has juice in the tank is why I think the meter on the G2 is off a little. It'll probably be better with an rda and good coils in it at higher power.

Don't get me wrong. I love my G2 and I don't care if I have to drop it to 10 watts, I'm gonna vape it! My iSticks are pretty much reduced to backup or stealth vapes when I have to go to the Drs office. At home I'll be hitting the Hohmwrecker. :D

By the way, I don't know if needed or not in digital watts mode but just in case, I did make sure the tank was at room temp and hit the fire button to make sure it said "connect atomizer". :)

Edit..this is a fabulous thread and mjag's guide is priceless!

Well... I started to fix the broken battery connections on my g2. Proved more difficult than expected.
The stock solder used was more difficult to melt then I thought. I got the wire out. But had to carefully drill out the old solder to accommodate the new wire :/

It would have been easier if you had a "solder-sucker". It's a pen type soldering iron with a squeeze bulb on it to remove the old solder as it melts. Looks like you got it under control, though. Good work. :)

I didnt have proper solder tape. So I "made" some out of wire. It usually works BUT the solder they used some like "high temp" solder. Don't know the proper name. But it's nothing like the regular stuff I use at work.

I have a pretty good butane solder pen. It make quick work of typical solder bit not this stuff

I ordered one from them last Friday and haven't heard a word yet about it being shipped yet :( Did you get an email when yours was shipped out?
I ordered mine on a Friday, also. They shipped it on Monday, but didn't send tracking info until Tuesday. I got it on Wednesday, lol.

Edit: Or maybe Thursday. Point is, I got it. Lol

I've had my g2 now for what a year? not an issue, EVER. it's been used heavily too. tho now it is just used when I'm installing coils, or need a temp box, as I strictly use mechs. the g2 is by far the best fsk chip mod out there! beats dna chip boxes every time. I suppose there has been Qc issues lately but I'm glad my box works.

Hohmtech has a new firmware update for the G2 on FB. I've downloaded it but haven't installed it. Reported to kick the watts to 181 along with a few other enhancements. I'll get it put in at some point. Have to get the updater program first due to a different PC and setup. Looks like it just went up on the FB page.

I guess it is going to change the welcome and exit screen as well, was a firmware developed for the guys who make the Rig Pig, here is what Hohtech had to say about it on facebook:

wattage increase, welcome and exit screen suited for The Rig Mod team, and it has slightly enhanced battery calibration and temp curve.

The 181W_.dfu firmware...
Rig Mod Logo and words on Startup and the Cracked Bell on Shutdown.

It does go to 181W. It has the old AIM menu with the Vape Porn title, all the SS presets are gone and no W preset. So without any details about what the minor battery and temp curve enhancements are, I doubt the update is worth an extra 10W. I didn't bother playing with the sole SS preset, Kanthal or XXX mode, just flashed 2.5.7 back on and moved along.

If HT are not going to continue with proper updates, then possibly release the source to the firmware community. I could easily enjoy a variant of ArcticFox on the G2. :D

yeah I noticed a lot of shit missing. I'm going to flash back to the last firmware because I liked having all the SS options! really don't like the oil rig logo, the bell is cool but I never shut my g2 off so that's a useless logo. bah, maybe this is a unofficial leaked firmware or some shit.... disgruntled employee releasing half ass firmware... who knows. 10w + means nothing to me except as a wow factor cause two 18650 can't push that kind of power for long anyways.

a screen fade option and second options would be nice. the two step screen dimmer sucks and the dna has it beat. xxx mode is working well on the new update. since I'm using nichrome 80 Claptons I'll stick with xxx because I dont know if there is a setting for n80 wire. if I go back to SS coils I'll switch back to old firmware
