I did a video the other day on how to properly torch your mod, if that is a look you want to go for. Keep in mind you are dealing with an open flame and extremely hot metal. So please be safe and use common sense. If you do you will get things like:
- A cool looking mod with the ability to pick the colors
- A conversation piece with people

If you aren't safe you will get:
- To learn what 600 degree metal feels like on skin.
- To learn what can happen to things when it hits a open flame that aren't supposed to.
- A moderate to severe case of the ouchies and burnies.

With that, here's the video. Comments and critiques are always welcome.

Nice video. I'm not really into the torched look, but it's a good tutorial for people that want to learn how to do this sort of thing. Nice giveaway as well!

Thanks for the info on torching. It is a cool look. Happy Vaping All

How well would propane work vs butane? I have both types of torches, but my propane torch has a wider nozzle, allowing for more even heat distribution.

Edit: Looked it up, propane is only slightly hotter. So it would work.

Propane would be fine. I used butane since I had it and I think at this point it's a staple to anyone building coils. Even though the video is accelerated you can see the color shifts. To get it starting to turn gold takes a little bit, but once it goes purple it will start going from purple to blue and blue green quickly.

Take a look at a color chart online to know where you aim for. But again once you see purple get ready to move quickly because your desired color will come and go.

Thanks @marcumusprime. I was on mobile so posting would have been a pain. This is exactly what I'm talking about. You have to get it up to 350° and then it starts changing drastically quickly.

The pic above makes me think its possible to get a near consistent color...might require a kiln or something however

i used a torch, but had it in lathe turning it super slow, thats how i got the color to come out even. plus it has to be super clean, and i polished it out with 3000 grit paper before torching it.

Very well done!

If memory serves I have seen something where you can get the multi colored effect if you heat the steel in a high carbon environment.

Perhaps bury it in charcoal, light it up, let it get stupid hot and then quench immediatly?

That looks great. Gives a unique device even more of it's own look.

Looks great :) been debating on doing it to my panzer....still up in the air on it
That's a thick device for its size, you will be there a bit if you're just using a Butane torch to get it to temp! I bet it would look pretty cool though. Just make sure you clean it really well, with all those grooves it will burn in fingerprints very easily.

Going to try this next weekend. I have atomo mod I normally use in 18650 mode so I'll test with the 2 smaller tubes. Safety tip: Have someone hold your beer while doing this! ;)
