That is what I have. My cottons don't last a day and sometimes it even burns in minutes. I did a build of 3.0 and 6 wraps. My wattage is 85.

Please help me make a build that doesn't burn my cottons too fast. I use cotton bacon by the way..

    Good day guys, thanks.

Try uploading the image instead vat ...if you have trouble uploading it you might need to crop it a little

ahh ok rebuildable ...did you check for hot spots before wicking?

Also how did you go about wicking on this I assume it similar to the Themis RTA with the juice wells at each end? Would you say your are getting dry hits before it burns

Isn't 85W kind of high/hot for a single coils RTA?

    Yes sir, I did..
And haven't had dry hits. I am not familiar with themis because I am new to vaping and just bought this in the store and started practicing building for a month now. And honestly, after priming, when I put the tank back on, I already get burnt puffs. That ugly taste with the itchy feeling on my throat. That is what I do not understand. Same thing happens with my loop rda and blitzen rta :/

    my bad.
ya not sure why.. assumed you pieced it all together right and primed it well.. but the only thing i can think of is starting at a lower wattage

Well at priming I do 45watts and gradually go up to 75 before putting the tank on and start vaping and then going 80 then 85. I really have no idea what is going on. Im thinking I may have made a mistake switching to vaping from smoking. I still smoke because vaping gets more costly and yeah, that burnt taste and rough feeling on the throat just irritates me.

too much cotton. You want the cotton to be able to slide from the left to the right, or vice versa, inside the coil.

if you feel you're forcing it, or have to pull hard etc then that's too much. Same with fluffing it out really good before putting it in the coils. Ends need to be fluffed too.

you shouldn't have a burnt taste or burnt smell before even taking one puff off it lol.

what's the vg/pg ratio of your juice? Ohms of the coils?

Yeah.. i do it a bit tight and do not fluff the cottons before I place them in the coils. I only fluff the sides after putting them in the coils..

It says 70/30 I don't know where is vg and pg there but that is what it says..

Watch some YouTube videos on how to properly wick that tank. Personally I think 85w is to high.

Did you dry fire the coils? The bad taste you're getting could be due to the bildup on dirt on the coils.
And I highly recommend you to watch this video:

Look at what the guy is doing and copy him step by step, especially if it's happening with your other RTA's.
You haven't made a mistake by choosing to vape, all of this is really easy to learn, give youtube a try. The community is huge.

I would agree that you didn't make a bad decision to stop smoking and start vaping. It does take a minute or two to find your groove. I had the issue as you. Just so everyone here knows I am @104 days no cig, and don't crave either.

I use cotton beacon also, I wick mine pretty tight. Tight enough that I barely have a hard time getting thru the coil mostly because it fluffy stuff. Thus the reason I like it. Less time fluffing cosmic pads aka Japanese cotton. If you have to slightly twist the cotton to get thru the coil your on the track. I do fluff my ends after I trim them to the right lenght.

The major thing to remember here is the higher the ohm's the lower wattage and the lower the ohm's the higher wattage. I am right now as I write this running a .19 @60 watts and it is even better @50 watts. This set up gives me great flavor and more than enough clouds. It wont win no contest but I didn't quit smoking to do that. The flavor is what is keeping me off the stinkies. And I chain vape this set up until my lungs give out on me LOL. KEEPER HER WET AND VAPE ON.

So guys? What build can you recommend so I can do 85 watts? I really love vaping on 85 watts even better if I could do 90+ but I don't know how many wraps or how big the holes in my wraps should be or of it does not hurt my batteries.. I watched the vid that frosty shown and I believe I did follow the steps because I already saw that vid a while ago. The only difference is that mine is 3.0 with 6 wraps, slightly far from the deck and runs on 85 watts.

I really appreciate the help guys. I hope I can stop smoking with vaping..

helix coils ...cloud monsters...you’ll be needing space for this though not sure how much room you have on the deck

    2*28g twisted, 4* 0.4x0.1 ribbon, 38g wrap

    D708BFC1-4CA8-4B94-A8F9-8816F6E07246.jpeg

Failing that framed staples 6* 0.4x0.1ribbon cores
    2*28g frames, 38g wrap
    F8B62C08-F97E-4A8F-8BA6-3491D2C3906B.jpeg

Most of this is kanthal except for the wrap to keep resistance up ...you’ll likely need a 0.3 ribbon, 30g frames and 40g wrap

You’ll get them in but you need thinner gauges than I used in those builds like I said ...because you’ll want to keep above 0.1ohm on that aegis

@Pegleg Meg is our resident super fine wire build specialist she might have some ideas hehe

You can run that exact build at 85 watts. Use WAY LESS COTTON!

And maybe also spread your coil wraps out just a tiny bit, so they don't touch, but main thing is less cotton, make it so little cotton that it leaks and then work your way from there

Can you buy some wire? Even twisting together two 26g pieces of wire will allow you to vape higher and anyone can do that with a pair of pliers and a drill

Out of interest why 85W though? Are you after the heat or clouds?

If it’s anything like the Themis meg it requires a little bit of cotton to plug the well ...vape this in the 60s and it’s nice and warm these are fused Clapton’s Vat

    Good point!

Erm maybe it wasn’t actually fused might have been 25g flat wire then Claptoned with 38g actually... can’t remeber the metal it’s either SS316L or N80

But is similar to a fused Clapton just prefer the way these Flaptons vape

Well, I think he can get a good vape with the wire he has, and should be able to get it to work well with some troubleshooting and perseverance - that's where I start from, before recommending different wire :)

I don't have near the expertise of the others responding here, but may I ask why you're so hung up on 85W?

Every juice and every coil combination will work best at different power levels. You will also have to adjust wattage as the coils age and accumulate grime on them.

How long have you been vaping?

^^^This. Why fixated on a certain wattage?

Also...he mentions a dual coil but 3.0 ohms?! I think there's something wrong here. That would mean each coil is 6.0 ohms. Only way he could fit that would be an extremely high gauge wire, which would mean 85 watts is too much power...

I get burned smell and hits, as well as shitty flavor, he says. Thin out or use less cotton we say. No I like it tight and I can't vape below 85 watts he says.

We can close the topic, no matter what we say or try helping, his tunnel vision is not allowing common sense. Pointless lol

I assumed when OP said the build and 3 he means the inner diameter of the coil rather than resistance ..no way those dual coils are 3 ohms unless they aren’t mounted correctly and mod is reading it wrong

Well I really am after great flavor and huge clouds.. and by reading your responses,
I am eager to try harder in building. How should I know if my wattage is in tune with my ohm reading? I really am confused there are just so many information I am getting right now..

I have been vaping for a month+ now.. I started vaping on 75watts 5 wraps using the same wire but needed more flavor later on so I tried 6wraps and went up to 85 watts and looksllike im liking it and would even want to go a bit higher. I currently have a .22 reading..
I am a menthol guy btw.

Ok ...best to stop with the build advice and start from scratch @Bigfoot and @DonBaldy called it out

There is no right or wrong wattage setting for coils however certain coil types do work best within a range

You can affect that range by (not limited to)
    1. Adding/removing wraps
    2. Coil diameter
    3. The metal you use for the coil
    4. The thickness of the metal you use for the coil
    5. The type of coil you make with the above, it’s mass and it’s resistance
    6. Opening/closing airflow (airflow over the coil)
    7. Wicking speed
    8. Juice type (some taste off with higher temps)

Fused Clapton’s like you are using can go up in wattage but if you want bigger clouds you will be limited by your current coil type and the deck space/type available on the Zeus DC

Definitely stay away from mech mods for now you aren’t ready for those

Once you get your head around these things then ...

Head here ^^ and check a build to see how hot it will run at before making and mounting the coil

..or just mount the coils start at a low wattage and increase until it’s satisfactory for you

Have you seen me saying I like it tight(that sounded weird)? But point is, I just explained how I did my wicking so everyone can see what's wrong because I dont understand sht about what I am doing. I wanted to be as transparent so it would be easier to give advices.

I said I liked 85 watts because I did like the flavor but that doesn't mean I am sticking with it if there is a better alternative. Which is why I am asking because the thing I understood is that the higher the wattage the better the experience. Again, because I don't know sht sbout what I am doing.

@vatimins150, so you've been vaping for about a month? I'm not saying to ditch the RTA, but they can be a bit trickier (at least for me) to wick properly. I would suggest getting a tank with factory coils to vape while learning the the finer points of building and proper wicking. It might also be a good idea to looking to an RDA to use to learn to build and wick because the are open systems (unlike a closed RTA) with which you can see your builds and wicking.

It take lots of trial and effort to find what works best for you. Sure, in the beginning, it is frustrating and yes it is easier to smoke, but the end result of being smoke free is so worth all if the effort. What will work for you will not be what works for @KingPin! , myself, or any other vaper here.

That is not entirely accurate. For example I rarely vape over 50W. I like a single fused clapton and I get plenty of vapor production and great flavor. Now that is me. Other like a very hot vape with big dual coils at high wattage.

Patience my friend. it is a learning process just like anything. IF you're an auto mechanic you start with simple oil changes not putting new rings on pistons. You build up to that. Yes, it will be very frustrating. You are starting right by asking for advice for here.

Ha! I laugh because I've been through many, many RDA's RTA's, tanks, and other atomizers to find what I really like and what works for me. I personally like RDAs. My personal favorites for ease are the dead rabbit family, the recurve, the pulse RDAs and Wasp nano. I like them for the simplicity of building and the flavor works for me. Many don't like these and fortunately there's hundreds to choose from and most aren't that expensive (unless you ask my wife). Since you seem to prefer dual coils one of the ones that seems to liked by many id the Drop. I will be getting one soon myself.

DonBaldy is right, don't focus so much on the wattage, resistance, specs, etc.

Focus on the vape quality. I myself vape at 25 watts, and plenty of flavour/clouds.

    Remember, taste is subjective
