I need help with recipes. Don't know what I'm doing wrong :-(

Hi everyone!

I've been playing around with some flavorings and recipes that I have found in e-liquid-recipes.com. I have chosen recipes with many and good ratings.

I have purchased exactly the same flavorings in those recipes. I have mixed 10-20ml and they dont taste good!!

I mix everything with a scale. Then, I put the bottles in a warm bath for about 20 minutes and then I keep them in a dark drawer.

What am I doing wrong?

These are the recipes I have mixed:

Goofie's Juice (after 8 days steeping, not bad but it tastes too much to peanuts).

Mother's Unicorn Milk (after 6 days steeping, it only tastes to strawberry, very softly, I cannot feel the rest of flavorings)

Mustard Milk - Simple Strawberries and Cream (after 7 days steeping it only tastes to strawbery, very softly).

Cupcake Porn (○)(○) (after 6 days steeping, it only tastes to strawberry, very softly, I cannot feel the rest of flavorings)

I have found several issues:

- The main profile flavor's intensity is very low.
- The recipes with strawberry only taste to strawberry. I cannot feel the other flavors.
- In Goofie's Juice, the flavor is not nice. How is possible that the current #1 recipe on the site doesnt taste good?

In theory, these recipes should be good, very good. But my mixes suck.

Any clue about what I might be doing wrong?

Can any of you recommend a GOOD recipe? I love sweet tobacco recipes such as Tribeca and I would like to make a GOOD strawberry milkshake. But I'm open to other creamy recipes.

Thanks a lot in advance.

You may not be doing anything wrong...... your tastes may just be different than those of the original recipe maker....

Try adjusting percentages a little... if the strawberry is too strong use less of that flavoring or more of others.

I find I mix many flavors at lower percentages than suggested......some I do at higher percentages....

Don't assume that because a juice doesn't taste as expected the issue is the juice....... it very likely could be HOW you are vaping it that is giving bad result.. could be too much or too little wattage or air.

Thanks for your response, @HondaDavidson.

I vape between 3,7 and 4,2 volts. I taste my juices using a Tobinho ATO with a Drag Voopoo mod. The air is at its maximum.

I will try what you say; try to adjust percentages and see if I find the formulas for my taste.

I didnt know DIY is so difficult :-/

I hate to say it, and taste is always subjective, but some of those recipes just aren't very good to begin with. Check out some of the recipes posted here in the forum, there are some real winners, especially the Head In Clouds recipes.

Thank you so much for your responses. I will start using my flavorings on my own, trying simple combinations.

It could also be bad nic or old flavors. Just something to keep in mind if by themselves thy're still foul.

Of the many recipes I've tried there is only one I continue to use the creator's flavor percentages and ingredients. If you are looking to get into tobacco flavors Purlium sweet tobacco is getting great feedback. I ordered some for my cousin.

What @PuffOn said -- if you've recently quit smoking, your tastebuds are likely still very compromised; it took me nearly 2 yrs before I could even start reducing sweetener, and nearly 3 yrs before I could start bringing my own strawberry & cream recipe down from its initial 31% flavoring -- you may just need a lot more flavoring.

I use Inawera shisha strawberry, which is probably the strongest and sweetest strawberry flavoring available; everyone said 2%-4% -- I could barely taste it even at 8%! So my own recipe started off using 16% of that flavor. I've now been able to bring it down to 13.6%, but that's still considerably more of that flavor than most would use. Don't fall for the idea that just because others enjoy their vape at only 10%-15% flavoring (or less!), that you have to do the same -- you don't. And don't for a minute believe that it's somehow "dangerous" to use a lot of flavoring -- it's considerably less dangerous than, oh... smoking cigarettes? Driving a car? ;)

Make sure to check the recommended steep time on the recipes. The Goofie's one recommends 20 days. Sometimes eliquids are great right away but others may need that time.
DIY is one of those things that you just have to fiddle with things until you find something that works. Just because one person mixes a flavor at 10%... doesn't mean you'll like it at that amount. If you are new to mixing, you may want to try simpler recipes to find out how strong you need your flavors to be. More flavoring does not always mean more flavor. There is a such thing as overflavoring that can mute flavor.
Maybe try messing with the percentages in the Mustard milk since it's the most simple mixture. See if lowering or increasing the percentages makes a difference.

One of the more popular recipes is
Pur sweet tobacco 7%
FW butterscotch ripple 3%

For a tobacco stand alone they all are starting at 7%. That is working for most of them without any tweaking .

Great! Thanks! I will see where I can find that flavor in Europe :)

If you've recently quit smoking, you may need more time for your taste to recover.
Took me almost a year.
I was going to ask this. If you recently quit smoking you might not be able to taste very well. Then again eyeryone tastes these flavors we use differently. Once you get to know your flavors you will know which ones you like.

Of the recipes you listed, I have tried Mustard Milk. In fact I always have some on hand. I like the flavor of it quite a bit.

I quit smoking at the of December. But I didn't smoke much. But it's possible!
Thanks!
