iMac speaker help

I'm running an older iMac with Mac OS10.6.8. I use Harmon Kardon Soundsticks external speakers which I love and have been working fine. I went to listen to some music this morning and the external speakers are no longer working. The internal speaker is working just fine. Any Mac heads on here that can lend a hand, it would be greatly appreciated. Pulling my hair out as I've tried everything I can think of with no solution.

I guess nobody on the forum uses an Apple computer. :( I was hoping there would be at least one. I'm in desktop publishing so we use mainly all Macs.

I'm supposing you already went into preferences and looked to see that the speakers are being recognized? Then made them primary?

Not sure what happened but they started working again. Might have been a loose cable.
Cool..was going to suggest what Lucy did AND to plug those HK Soundsticks into another source
to see if they worked.
If you run into any more problems, my kid runs a Mac, I can always ask him for you.
