Full disclosure:
Let’s get all the disclosures out of the way. This mod was sent to me directly from Pioneer4you specifically for the purposes of this review. This will not in any way, shape, or form cause me to give this mod a favorable review or change my opinion in any way.
First Impression Out Of The Box:
This mod is packaged very nicely as a kit. The mod sits on top and the tank and coils are in a separate section below the mod compartment. Wooh, this thing is small. Is it really a dual 18650 mod? It sure is. This thing feels nice and smooth with some nice contours. Can’t wait to throw some batteries in here.
What's In The Box:
In the box you will receive an IPV Vesta mod along with a PV Air S3 tank. P4U also sends you two coils in the retail packaging. My package contained four coils with a sticker stating that this mod has the extra coils and is for reviewers. There is also a user manual, USB Cable and a warranty card.
From Top To Bottom:
The Tank:
The PV Air S3 tank is a top fill, top airflow tank. As far as I can tell the glass does not come off. So there is no spare glass in the kit. It breaks down into three pieces and measures 24mm in diameter by 29mm in height. I received two types of coils with the tank. One is a .5 ohm kanthal coil and the other is a .2 ohm SS coil. The kanthal coil has a wattage range of 10-80 watts and the SS coil has a joule range of 10-80 joules. The flavor is surprisingly good for a top air flow only tank.
The tank is a top fill tank that holds 2mls of juice. The top cap is made of plastic and has an integrated drip tip. Not a fan of the plastic drip tip/top cap form factor because eventually the plastic threading will wear out or strip. At the very least the inside of the top cap should have some metal threading. The top airflow is adjustable and has stoppers on both sides. All in all a nice little compact sub ohm tank. So far the SS coil vapes beautifully in TC or wattage mode. Flavor is really nice with some pretty good cloud production. It vapes a lot like my TFV8 Baby Beast.
The Mod
This mod is ridiculously small for a dual 18650 mod. I really can't believe how compact and solid feeling it actually is. The spring loaded 510 is nicely threaded but towards the end of screwing down a tank there is a bit of a space and you have to crank it down just a little to close the gap. Very surprising since P4U has a great reputation of using quality 510 pins. Not saying this 510 pin is not quality it just seems to be a little on the shallow side.
The top of the mod will fit a 25mm tank with absolutely no overhang. Half of the top side of the mod is flat while the other side slopes down. There is a slight gap where the top part of the mod meets the sides. It is a hairline gap but I have to mention it. You can see light through the hairline and I do hope P4U addresses it in the retail versions. Then again since I only have one it is quite possible that it's only mine that has the hairline gap.
At the end of the slope on the opposite side of the fire button is the USB port mounted near the top of the mod. I have no idea if it is just for charging as well as updates. When I plug in the cable it does charge. As far as updates go I have no documentation that this chip is actually updatable. I have reached out to P4U but I have not heard back yet. For the purposes of this review I will assume that this mod is not updateable. Once I do get confirmation I will update this review.
One side of the mod is blank and on the other side you have a screen with a +/- button. The +/- buttons are diamond shaped, small, and clicky. The screen is bright and vivid. It displays all of the pertinent information like joules/wattage, locked/unlocked, resistance, voltage, preheat, temperature and battery life. There are two separate meters for the batteries and they are marked as A and B. I do wish the screen showed what TC mode you are in on the regular screen you see while vaping.
The firing button is made out of the same material as the rest of the mod. In fact it is so similar to the body of the mod that it is almost camouflaged. It has a squarish shape and is very responsive and clicky.
The battery door is one of the best of its kind I have ever seen or used. Slide it out and it pops open. Load the batteries and push down and in and the battery door locks into place and does not move. Simple, effective and well done in my opinion. No tabs, buttons, or latches like similar battery doors, just a simple hinged system. I am kind of surprised that there is no venting on the battery door or the rest of the mod.
The paint on this mod is super smooth and seems to be really durable. Branding is basically non existent except for a P4U logo on the base of the mod. This mod just feels really solid and great in your hand. It has contours in all of the right places. Well done P4U!
The Look, Feel, and General Aesthetics Of The Mod:
I still can not get over how small this dual battery mod actually is. It’s basically half the width of my VF Flask and that's a dual battery mod as well. What we have here is an IPV 5 in a smaller package that actually vapes better than an IPV 5. Just this week I acquired a Vaporesso Nebula which is a single 26650 mod. For all intents and purposes the Vesta does double the wattage and is the same exact size of the Nebula. The back of the mod has a curved carved out portion that just makes holding it feel natural. This may well be the smallest dual 18650 mod I have ever had. Here it is next to the IPV5.
The Board:
What can we say about the Yihi chipset that has not been said already. This is just an awesome, highly accurate board. This is the SX 410 version of the board and it does wattage, Ti, SS, and Ni. TC on this board is just on point, Wattage mode is smooth as well. I get thick, lush, flavorful vapor. For the record this mod is very smooth with no noticeable pulsing or rattlesnake effect.
The Menu System:
Typical Yihi menu system here. Nothing surprising or new.
* 3 clicks to lock/ unlock the mod
* 5 clicks gets you into the main menu
* In the main menu one click scrolls you through the different modes
* In the main menu the +/- buttons scrolls you through the sub menu categories.
* Hold down the +/- button to lock the resistance. You must do this in TC mode or the mod will not vape right.
But Deuces, How Does She Vape:
This mod is going to be one tough cookie to beat at this price point. It is really solidly built with an absolutely banging chipset. This mod has replaced my IPV 5 as my new workhorse mod. It vapes absolutely fantastic and it performs exactly like a Yihi board should. Honestly since I received it I can not put it down. This has quickly become one of my favorite mods and trust me when I say I have a lot of different mods to choose from. The TC is just fantastic. Its smooth and on point all the time no matter what I throw at it. Wattage mode is really accurate as well. I vape this with my Cigpet Eco 12 tank all the time at 150-175 watts and this mod performs like a champ.
Conclusion:
Look, if you love the Yihi chipset but you don't want to shell out $175 for a Q Mini or $225 for a G Class then get this mod. Let’s not kid ourselves though. The build quality is nowhere near that of the G Class. That being said it is possible to get a very similar vape at a fraction of the price. In fact at this price just go ahead and buy two. I promise you that you will not regret it. You get Yihi performance, a tank, and some coils for under $100. If you are a fan of the IPV 5 then this mod is a must have. It does everything better in a smaller, better looking, package. Hell yeah, this mod is DeucesJack approved. Run, don’t walk and pick up a Vesta.
