As a new vaper, I've been doing a lot of research on YouTube. One thing I've noticed is that the overwhelming majority of "proper" videos are being done in the UK. When I say proper, I'm excluding some guy sitting in his house and talking about vaping. I'm talking about the analysis of clinical research studies, interviews with real doctors, and things like that. There are only a couple of these types of videos made in the USA.

One video that I saw was of a "lung" doctor from UCSD who said e-cigs are bad. First, I've never heard of someone formally describing their self as a "lung" doctor. They would describe themselves as a pulmonary doctor. Second, she didn't know what she was talking about, but did mention she needs more money for research. This might explain the USA's reluctance to accept vaping over traditional cessation methods: The almighty dollar.

Is the UK a step ahead of the USA in vaping?

More like 20 miles. The Royal College of Physicians has stated unequivocally that vaping is AT LEAST "95% safer than smoking." These were same folks who told the world about the dangers of smoking, TWO YEARS before the Surgeon (doofus) General said it. The Royal College of Physicians, and PHE (public health England) have published a great deal on doctors advising smokers who can't or won't quit, to switch to vaping. While here in the US, tobacco taxes, and that infamous pile of shit called the Master Settlement Agreement have caused our gov't and all the "public health" talking heads to tell everyone that vaping is as bad as smoking, so it's very obvious that they are LYING BASTARDS who care more about money than about ANYONE'S health... except the health of their own bank balances.

They all need to be prosecuted for public health malpractice and fiscal malfeasance.

Interesting question. Not one I think I can say yes to I think but then again I haven't watched that many videos of the science behind vaping. I do know that the government bodies here say it's 95% safer than smoking cigarettes, yet the accepted the TPD rulings that in some cases may deter current smokers from taking up vaping as an alternative.

I've been vaping for 9 years on and off and seen many videos and read many articles the majority scare mongering. my argument has always been that if there was a problem it would have been found as a hell of a lot of companies , scientists have gone out of their way to try and prove a point that vaping is very (note very) bad for you.. at the end of the day no one would deny that if you don't vape then of course you're going to be without risk of damaging your lungs however.. .. you don't need to be a scientist or doctor to know that vaping is better than smoking tobacco again lots of videos to prove that point. Does it effect your breathing? Yes but the severity depends on how you vape and your life style.. over the years I've learned... learn to self build coils..clean those coils and cotton every day. Keep nicotine as low as you can... Keep the heat down and those air holes wide open. To deny that vaping has no effect is ignorance but it's also irresponsible and stupid to advise someone that they are worse than tobacco.. as someone who uses a gym 5 times a week I can categorically say there is a point where my lungs are restricting through both age and the amount I vape but you just need to be aware and adapt your vaping style .. less frequent . Change flavours that agitate your lungs and throat.. listen to your body ..its 'll about learning what suits your needs whilst remaining healthy.. sorry for the long reply

I think it's a matter of potential liability.. in the US you're more likely to get sued, especially so when your opinion greatly differs from where big money lies.

I do this, too. It keeps me from going outside where I used to smoke. It also keeps me from snacking, which is good.

I moved to my house here three years ago and promised myself I wouldn't smoke inside like I did at my last place. So I put on a lot of weight having nothing to do with my hands. Now with vaping it's not like I have no appetite; more like I don't need to eat all the time.

At the same time, I'm vaping too much. Certainly better than cigarettes, but not as good as not vaping.

I keep seeing this 95% safer than smoking quote that is going around. What is the qualifier for this? I whole heartedly agree that it is much safer than cigarettes, but am trying to figure out how they were able to quantify this particular amount.

Again I can't say I've seen everything on e cigarettes and their toxicity but from what I have seen with the old science experiment of drawing cigarettes through cotton wool or water there isn't any of the tar or other toxins that are created from combusting tobacco. On the respiratory system I would believe that it is a damn sight less toxic or destructive.
