I never really have tried sub setups, other than a couple toots off a co-workers rig.
Now I have a sub ohmer that wants me to mix a few things for him, but Im not sure if I should tame things down a bit cuz I only ever use my stuff in a Russian RTA usually around 1.2 @ 12-15 watts.

Any advice before I mix his requests.....
    Thanx in advance......

It depends so much on his own tastes! Can you not mix a little and have him taste first? (That's what I do - usually I have someone sitting at the kitchen table while we make tester flavors!)

Less flavoring and a lot less nic.

    I got ya...

    But heres the thing,
He is fairly new to vaping.... has only had his 1st sub rig for a week.... unsure of what flavor profile he wants, and nic content !
( He was on an ego twist and evod with nic @ 18mg )

Im just looking for some basics like... " 18mg will be too high", or " Flavors will be stronger than your Russian"...
    that kinda thing.
I dont want to scare him off sub ohm cuz I hit him in the kisser with some bad juju... Lol !

    Anyways,,, Thanx !

    Thats what I was guessing.....
Maybe 8mg nic, and reduce flavoring by 1/3-1/2 ...
    Sound close ?

reducing by1/3 flavoring is my viewpoint. 6-8mg is a good place to start for nic. I vaped an 18mg Juice I made last year in a dripper and damn near coughed up a lung.

Six is probably about right on the nic. Some flavors perform very differently sub ohm. Let's hope an experienced mixer chimes in here! :)

I would start at 6mg nic myself. I was at 10 when I went from a Kayfun to a 0.14 ohm dripper. Got 4mg for my dripper and it gave me the shakes after a few hits. 3 is as high as I go on my RDAs now. Usually more like 1mg.

As far as flavor goes, usually mixing at 80VG (instead of 50 which is what I mix for my brother, who uses a nautilus mini) will tone down the flavor a little bit. I've seen a company that has dripper and tank flavor option (with extra flavor for tanks) but if it's good in your russian it won't be terrible in the dripper. Start him out at 80VG with the same or slightly less flavor than you use and it shouldn't give him PTSD. Unless your flavors are really strong then maybe use 2/3 as much flavor.

Also, it's really easy to dilute a juice that's too strong. I've done it with store bought juice before several times. Add a little VG, shake it and test it again. Maybe have a small bottle of VG on hand when he gets the juice and have him try it right there. If it's way too strong you could tone it down on the spot. It won't be exact but at least he will be happy.

And remember that most people new to vaping start out with much higher flavoring levels if they've been previously smoking (dead taste buds)!

    Excellent thoughts....

He is using an Aspire sub tank..... was told to use 50/50 pg/vg from the person that gifted it to him.
But I suspect the tank will preform just as well with higher vg... but just a guess.
So include some extra vg as suggested and the bases should be covered.

I only make juice for a few people, and dont really care to grow the list.....
But he is a co-worker that has just started a family, and I would like to see him save $$$ and health.
He tried the ego/evod route but it was not enough for him to lose the cigs altogether.
He was gifted an IPV 50 watt and the Aspire tank.... and I feel if he can just get it dialed in right, and get some descent juice he may well beat the pack a day habit.
Never subing myself... I can only be so much help....

    Thanx for everyones thoughts..........

LOL! If he's having trouble giving up smoking, I would be careful about reducing his nic level. I do agree with with an Atlantis he might get nic sick at his original level - but that might be better than smoking (and you can always fix the juice)!

Subtanks can handle high VG with no issues. I use a 80vg/20pg blend in mine and have never gotten a dry hit.

Good point - Budds, mix up a 6mg/ml batch, and then another at 10mg/ml to see what he prefers, what keeps him of the stinkies.

If you can't see your reflection in a mirror, either you are a vampire (deceased) or a ghost (deceased), or blind (visually challenged). Our wonderful government at work it seems. Dead people don't pay taxes.

Why reduce flavoring? I have never heard of this. I subohm regular amounts of flavorings with no problem. Some flavoring have issues at subohm, but that is the flavoring, not the amount, like cocoa for instance.

Im with zamzam on this. Since the low percentages are my baseline, its opposite but equal to your post. I use between 1/3 and 1/2 more flavoring for my kayfun mixes, than for my rda mixes. Why? Less vapor, less flavor potential requires more flavor.
My tank mixes are typically 50/50 with between 13 and18% flavoring and 13% nic. My rda mixes are typically between 6-12%flavoring and 5% nic.
Its pretty easy to see the difference between a cloud from a dual 24ga coil running at 50-80watts, vs a 26ga single coil running 15-22 watts.
I only do this because it works. Believe me, Ive tried to use the exact same rda recipes, just at a 50/50ratio with higher nic, and I can barely taste them in my kayfun.

So whem you see a recipe, do you reduce it if you are going to use it in an rda, or leave it for an rda and increase it for a kayfun?

As zamazam already said, 80VG or higher isn't a problem in an Atlantis. Just loaded mine up with 84VG, no trouble. As far as nic level goes, I was picturing a RDA for some reason. If he's been at 18mg on a EGO then let him try 10ish on the atlantis. My bad.

It really all depends. Its hard to tell until you try it. Honestly, I rarely ever know which device, Atty, and wattage the recipe creator uses, which does complicate things. To me, these factors are just as important as the recipe itself, but are almost never mentioned.

For me, my rda mixes are my baseline because I can sample them easier. So when I see a recipe, I make it with max vg and low nic, so I can try it in my drippers. Only after Im satisfied with my rda recipe, will I start adding pg, and nic, and increasing flavorings to use in my kayfun.

But just like everything else in life, YMMV and taste is subjective. This is just how I do it.

i usually make my juice very low in pg and only 6 nic for my sub ohm set ups. the more pg and nic you use, the harsher the hit. which plays a big factor with sub ohm. i prefer a 70vg-30pg mix and 60-40 sometimes with more complicated mixes that have alot of flavorings. also if you start making juice with high vg you will find that you will want to use a little more % of flavoring and longer steep times to get the flavor into the juice. everything is subjective to the person vaping, weather they want more or less of a throat hit. i prefer a smooth hit with lots of vapor.
