You will need:
4 1/8 diameter X 3/16 deep Magnets Link https://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D23
2 1/8 Drill bits
Black electrical tape
Can air
5 Minute Epoxy
Nail polish remover
Sandwich baggy
Couple of paper towels
Rubber bands
Safety Glasses

Remove both screws and remove the battery, then re-install the cover with both screws on the mod and make sure they are tight.

Tip: use black electrical tape to mark the depth on the drill bit 3/8, make sure you measure not from the tip of bit, but from the widest point of the bit 3/8th of an inch.

Remove the screw that is closest to the end of the mod, leaving the other screw in tight.

Using the 1/8 drill bit, drill through the existing screw hole 3/8 deep, insert the opposite end of one 1/8 drill bit in the hole you just drilled to keep the cover in place.

Now drill the other hole using the 1/8 drill bit 3/8 deep.

Remove the other drill bit and remove the lid.

Let all pieces of loose aluminum shavings drop out of the mod. Gently use the can air to remove any addition shavings from the mod. Remove the plastic cover from over the electronics side of the mod and use can air again to make sure any aluminum shavings are now gone.

Replace the plastic cover over the electronics side.

Replace cover and make sure it has a nice and tightly flush on the mod.

Use all 4 magnet 2 1/8 X 3/16 magnets in each hole, check to see if they sit flush in the pre drilled holes you just made. If they do not fit in there flush you did not drill deep enough. If they sit in the holes a little deeper no worries.

Remove the magnets and back cover again.

Place the back cover flat on a plastic sandwich bag with the inside facing up.

Mix up some epoxy.

Using a toothpick to gently use some epoxy and put the epoxy down inside the cover holes at least 1/16th of an inch inside the 2 holes on the cover, make sure you are not use too much epoxy, do not to fill the holes with epoxy.

Now put 1 magnet in each hole of the cover, let sit for at least 10 minutes, while the epoxy sets.

Remove the plastic cover from the back cover. Using some nail polish remover, gently rub any epoxy left on the cover to have a nice clean finish.

Now add 2 more magnets to the cover where you just installed the magnets in the cover, one attached to each.

Mix up some more epoxy, add some to the holes on the mod at least 1/16th of an inch deep inside the holes on the mod itself.

Gently reinstall the cover now with all 4 magnets, let sit for 30 minutes while the epoxy sets and cures. Use some rubber bands at this point to hold the cover on tight.

After waiting at least 30 minutes remove the back cover, you may have to pry it off gently if you used too much epoxy.

Done.

Excellent write up. I'll suggest adding just one thing, when installing the second magnets make sure that the polarity is such that the magnets attract not repel. Should be obvious but if someone decides to add the door magnets when its off the mod (which means that they aren't following directions exactly) then if you don't think about orientation you could end up with the magnets upside-down.

Great write up for your procedures. Would you mind posting a link for the magnets also? That way we have it handy with the instructions. Thanks

Thanks for posting this. Most helpful; my screws stripped. But has anybody found a source with cheaper shipping? $5 shipping on $2 purchase violates my frugality.

Just complete this mod -- and works very well. I ordered these magnets, Round Super Strong Rare-Earth Neodymium NIB Magnets (100-Pack) 3*5mm at $4.14 (and free shipping). Drilled thru the cover with 1/8" bit, and epoxied magnets flush to the inside surface (by setting on piece of smooth, hard plastic). I inserted the two magnets with opposite polarity so the cover would only mount in single orientation. When glue was cured (15 minutes if using 5 minute epoxy), I removed excess from inside surface using a knife (so cover would sit flush).

Then drilled body to depth adequate for two of the magnets when stacked. Filed to smooth raised burr around these holes. With inside of the cover facing up, placed a 1" squares of thin plastic bag over the magnets, and stacked two more magnets on each cover magnet (separated from cover magnets and cover by the plastic). Mixed more epoxy and spread inside holes in body. Finally inserted the cover (with stacked magnets and separating plastic) into holes on the body; and clamped firmly.

Magnets in the cover then hold the body's magnets at the correct height and position while the glue dries. The plastic prevents magnets and cover/body from being glued together.

Works great -- and a very strong hold. In fact had to file a fingernail groove on the bottom edge to simplify getting them apart. Thanks to OP for a fabulous mod.
