Nautilus Mini Base Rust ??

Whats up guys, first time poster her but have been lurking around the threads trying to absorb as much as info as possible. I have been vaping since the begining of the year and first set up was the istick 20w and the Aspire Nautilus Mini.

Moving on to the point of the thread. I recently stepped up my vaping game and picked up a istick 50w with a Kanger SubTank Mini. I figured my old tanks could take a break and figured I would clean them up as thorough as possible. I rinsed each part of the Nautilus Mini including drip tip, tank, and base in hot hot water from the sink. I then filled a thermostat coffee mug with the same hot water and let the parts soak overnight. I repeated the process for two days just to ensure a thorough cleaning (a little OCD when it comes to cleaning the tanks)

The parts have been drying on a paper towl for the past 24-36 hours. As I was examining the pieces, I noticed what seems to be a rust spot on the base of the Nautilus Mini. Has anyone else experienced this? Should it be any concern to me health wise? I included a photo of what I'm talking about to help illustrate the issue. Sorry in advanced for the quality, I couldnt get my cellphone camera to focus worth shit, but you get the idea. Another question is would the hot water soak have any effect on the o ring seals on the tank which could cause leaking in the future? I'm assuming not, but hey, what do I know.

Any input is appreciated! Thanks guys!

Welcome to the VU.
Leaving metal in hot water for several days is not a good thing to do. Rinsing in hot distilled water and blow drying, or drying with a paper towel is better.
I put distilled water in a jar, into the microwave to heat ,put my parts in and screw on the lid, then shake the shit out of the jar for several minutes. Then remove the parts and blow dry followed with towel dry.
Try to clean off the rust with a pipe cleaner or small brush.

Contrary to popular belief, stainless steel is not...stainless. It's far more rust resistant that regular steel (and most other metals), but it will still rust.

Vinegar, or lemon juice + baking soda with a soft scouring pad are good ways to remove rust from stainless steel without harsh chemicals. If you're having problems getting it off, try lighter fluid as a last resort. Then, be sure to clean it again before vaping to remove chemicals and small metal left behind from the scouring pad.

I had that happen in both of my nautilus tanks (the mini and the regular). Turns out the spring totally rusted to nothing, and I had to order new ones directly from Aspire. I suspect the new ones are made of different metal, because they show no signs of rusting.

Thank you guys for your input! I will attempt to clean the rust off as mentioned. Would it be better to let the tanks and parts soak in grain alcohol such as Vodka rather than water to avoid this situation?

I don't soak the bottom at all after my last experiences! I just wash out in hot water and dry with a q-tip inside. I'm telling you, the springs literally rusted into nothing - comletely disintegrated!
