No longer a virgin (First build)

So today I did my first build using 26G Kanthal on an Anarchist Riot RDA and ended up with a .55ohm dual coil, and I'm left with the following thoughts which I'm hoping people can pick up on and point me in the right direction.

I coiled on a jig being a newbie, which was amusing in itself, the first 5 coils I made I discarded because even with my eyes, they were crap. The next two turned out what I thought was ok, and usable.

I was a bit cack handed postioning the coils but I did read that the Riot isn't the most user friendly one for beginers so I took my time, swearing a little because that always helps and repositioning, the coils were pretty central in the end but weren't overly level but I decided to stop there.

Firing took a time, I'm not sure how long this process should take but ended up with the coils firing fairly evenly, could be better I'm sure but practice makes perfect and all that.

Finally wicking, yeah I probably used too much, but managed to do the folding and tucking ok I think.

So hints and tips, video links people have found helpful - looking forward to reading them all from you.

So the first vape I did - not sure how long my first set up will last, which even if it's just a few hours I would be happy with because the first vape at 65W which is higer then I'm used to (just coming into week 4 of vaping now) but seriously, wow. Good amount of vapour for me (no where near cloud chasing levels but I'm not going for that), nice and smooth but that flavour. Good grief it was beautiful, this RDA is awesome for flavour.

So there you go, my first time building, took a while, probably full of numeorus errors I have no doubt, and the next time I coil I'm definetly going to pay an awful lot more attention to what steam-engine recommends for wraps, but I enjoyed it.

Hopefully I will improve, maybe.

Time and practice. Also YouTube. Learn ohms law. Even if you're using a regulated mod it never hurts. I think I read and watched more videos before I started building than after but still watch vids everyday. I used an app called Vape Tool for my coil building and ohms law calculator.when wicking less is more. I used just enough to drag the bottom of the deck. Also you don't want it to tight in the coil for proper wicking.so much keeps popping out. Research will be your best friend. And of course the Vu. Tons of great and very informative people here to help. And you could always check out some coil porn in the post your builds thread. Hope something I've said may help.

Are you using one of those coil jigs with the handle part, various spindles and various caps that you turn to wrap the wire around the spindle? IF that is the case... most likely you are pressing down to hard to keep your wraps together while wrapping your coil. Just a guess if you are using that kind of coil jig. If so it took me a couple days to get the pressure right.

Finally wicking, yeah I probably used too much, but managed to do the folding and tucking ok I think.
Usually, you leave just enough wick on the ends to hit the bottom of your rda but keep any airflow channels clear.

Anarchist Riot RDA

2 post RDA. So try wrapping your coil to an extra 1/4 wrap.. so 5.25 wraps. (should look like an L shape on the jig) Then use your finger to crimp the free coil leg to come out parallel to the first one. Should help with leveling.

The rest is as stated, trial and error. LOL there is a reason I started buying kanthal and nichrome on 250 foot spools.

Keep at it and have fun with it.

Yeah using a coil jig,

and spot on the first 4 coils I discarded were because I discovered I was just putting that little bit too much pressure on the jig when wrapping.

Hopefully the next few coils I make will be a bit better, I hope lol.

Just keep at it. I'm also a rookie builder and it gets better with each build. I've recently attempted my first twisted and claptons and actually came out with something vapable after using lots of wire and a lot of cussing. I'm not waiting on a crap ton more wire so I can continue my journey towards building my own fused claptons. Good luck on your journey.
