I have an odd problem. Or maybe a silliness problem.
I have 2 EXO RTAs and 2 OBS Engines.
I have identical claptons in all of them, bought them from Adavnced Vape Supply.
One EXO is single coil deck the other dual coil.
I have had nothing but trouble with the dual coil deck on the EXO.
I put it on a G Class, read the resistance, it is .21xx, put it on an ML Class, same. Put it on a DNA, same.
I put the Engine on the same mods, same resistance except for the xx part of the number.
So, I set the Yihi mods to 65J, 420F.
The Engine produces a great vape, hits temp quick and holds it there.
I put the single coil EXO on, read resistance, .40xx, seems a bit different as it is the same coil, just single. But, it vapes well with 35J 420F.
The dual EXO at 65J hits about 360F but is a VERY hot vape. Too hot for me.
I've checked this and that, but if the resistance is accurate and the mods work, what else should I look for here?

    Thanks.

Two .4 ohm coil make a dual coil build of .20. Not the same thing...... half the ohms twice the size.

I've always found single coils to seem hotter even in TC. Tho when I throw a single coil into something I always make them bigger to get the same resistance I would of a dual.

Right now I've got a 0.27 dual fused clapton in my goon 24mm and a 0.19 single alien in my mage gta.

My temp for the goon I have set at 240C and for the Mage is 170C. Now I'm going to try and space the alien after I drain this tank to see if it makes a difference since the dual fused is a spaced coil while the alien is a contact.

Is the troubled Exo a black one by chance?

Well, I replaced the grubs with hex heads. It did change the resistance to .20xx
However, the tank still is very hot and is only hitting/showing 160F on my mods. Which is different than yesterday's 360F
Again, the coils (bought claptons from Advanced Vape Supply) work fine on other tanks, the mods run other tanks with the same coils fine.
This one dual coil deck is not cooperating.
I can better understand this if it were unstable resistance, if it were weak vapor, didn't fire.
It's that it has proper resistance, wicked well, and has very hot (not warm) vapor at such a low reported temp.

I guess I'll re-coil and re-wick as a last ditch effort before tossing the durn thing.

    Yes, it's a black one.

Yes, but that has nothing to do with the vapor being too hot to vape while Yihi and DNA mods report the temp as 160F.

But those are reasonable temps. I'm setting this to 420F and it never hots that, but at the temp it hits, 160F the vapor is too hot to have in my mouth.

Welcome to the world of TC.

Those perfect settings you found yesterday or 10 minutes ago. Don't work now..... have no fear tomorrow or maybe even next time you try they will.

I get TC hitting perfect... set down my mod, come back 20 minutes later. Too hot or too cold. Not the perfect hit it was before. Solution. ... 3 clicks change mode to VW... Problem solved.

Yeah, when it's one tank though, it tends to make me have to find out why. Though the tank is apart now being re-coiled and re-wicked, if it does the same again, I'll see if/how it vapes in power mode. Though I don't do power mode normally, so the tank would still be trash for my purposes.

I've vaped TC for years now. Different coils/tanks/mods. I always have the same range of settings, enough power to ramp the coil quickly, 420-460F.
Day in, day out. Tank after tank. Change the temp a 10-15 degrees if I need, usually when the wick needs changing. Rarely change power/joules.

Plus, you know, this isn't a wee bit off, it's unvapable on any mod at settings that I normally vape. And, other tanks still vape fine.

I think everyone here have misread the original post.

I'm not complaining about TC, I have a deck that just doesn't work as it should and I thought I'd see if anyone had ideas.

If it just builds on that deck. I would just replace the deck or rebuild it replacing every part I could.

Could be the insulators is breaking down..... could be a bad post screw or threads.
Could be that base just sucks at tc.

Yep, that's what I'm going to do right after trying a plain vanilla single wire coil.
As it is a week old tank, I doubt anything is breaking down. I've replaced the grub screws.
I'll rebuild every part of it if the single wire coil does not work.

I'll use my trusty never fail rebuilding tool. Money. Toss it and buy something else.

I've heard of some stability issues with the black ones, particularly the earlier batches. My black one is plagued with it, but my SS one is rock solid. If I swap the build decks between the two, it's still the black one that misbehaves. Frustrating to say the least. I can't figure out what's causing it on mine after very close inspection. Some have reported having black paint on the 510 threads, but mine doesn't. I almost never do TC, so it's not a huge problem for me, but I'd like to solve it nonetheless.

I'm probably going to get a pair of SS ones.
Unless I decide to just stick with the OBS Engine until something else 30mm comes out without postless decks.

    few things
    1) if the coils read .21 with dual coils and .4 in single coil then that would be correct. each coil is .4 so when you use 2 of them (in parallel like most RTAs) it halves the resistance to .20 give or take. so .21 is perfectly fine

    2) when putting on the gclass, did you lock in the resistance when the coil was room temp? also did you check for temp compensation? the g class has a compensation to set the ambient temp.

Only mentioned the resistance so it would not be thought it was out of line. I understand how single vs dual coils work.

Yes, resistance read, locked, temp compensated. Though unless way off, temp isn't overly important. Like set indoors then you go to the arctic outdoors.

I'm out of ideas, that's why I posted.

I have 'Standard' on the 2 Yihi mods.
Don't forget, other tanks work fine on the same mods.

Hmm so out of everything it's only the dual coil deck on the EXO giving you this issue right?

did you check the insulator for the 510 pin?

TL;DR Single coil decks work great, duals fail.

Well, here's where the story ends.
    I re-coiled, still bad.
I thought "Hey maybe it really isn't hitting 420, increase power' Bad idea.
I swapped the decks between bases (the EXO has two decks a single and a dule that screw into a base'
Problem stayed with the base. Ok, now I have something to work with.
I got the brand new dual deck from the package (been sampling the single) cleaned and coiled it.
Install to either base, bad, same too hot vapor and nowhere near 420.
So, I got out the other single deck, stole a coil from the dual, wicked.
Vapes like a champ on either base.

I understand that others have this tank and use the dual deck. I'm happy for them.
Here, for me, the only deck that will vape on both tanks I have is the single.

Fortunately, I love the single and probably would have used it in the end anyway.

Single wire, both SS 430 or NiFe52 didn't work. SS 430 claptons didn't work. Increase power, ramp, preheat, nothing. Same bad result in any combination.

I won't revisit this as there is no solution. It also takes away from enjoying my shiny new Mini G Class.
The single coil on this equals other dual coil tanks I have. And that's saying something.

If something is shorting, why would I get a proper resistance reading?

The resistance probe voltage is low with almost no current. When you fire, the voltage and current are high and then you could arc.

Glad you sorta solved it... or at least a workaround... If you were set on that deck then you could also try dropping the TCR to bolster the temps it reads.
