They aren't as hard as they look.I seen n.devine do some.. omg talk about coil porn hahahaha..helllla nice!
I like n.divine, he has an attitude like he doesn't care if anyone watches him or not. He's just doing his thing and putting it out there if people want to watch and hang out. If they don't he doesn't give a shit. He's also a talented and very creative builder.

Welcome to the thread DV. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Gotcha. I love alien coils just can't get them down. Either too loose and I mohawk it or too tight and I swear for 10inches of wire
keep trying man. you just have to get it a few times and it 'sticks' and you can just make them from now on. the only way to get there is keep trying. mohawks are when you under stretch. if you over stretch theres no recovery. if you are getting mohawks, just squeeze the alien wrap a little tighter as you feed it on and see if it straightens out...just make sure your cores are secured so they dont bunch up from the extra tension

edit - check this thread too

Pretty sweet hybrid.

Just a little alien advice. Try getting it down with 2 or 3 cores first. That way you can focus more on the wrap than on the cores. Another tip is to make a few de-cores and prep a few cores as well. That way you can sit down and just practice a few in quick succession. That way if you screw one up you can just next it, then hop right onto another without having to prep it all out. That helped me anyway.

Another clean alien! I seen people use ribbon wire an flatten it on the wire as a slider with nylon pliers, draw string clips, key rings, and a guy came out with alien makers that slide down the wire as you go(for your keeping them inline question)maybe MACH1NE can chime in with wire sizes he seems pretty alien savy.or u could check out the alien forum I'm still rather new also.good luck and great work!

im guna try some 4 and 5 cores next. Any advice on them for what size decores for 28. 30. And maybe some 32 cores
just try to figure out your total core width and divide that by three, then use the closest gauge to that number. for example: 5 x 28 gauge is 5 x .321mm = 1.6mm, divided by three is .53mm. 24 gauge is .51mm. you can deviate a bit from that number and still get aliens. the only difference is how pronounced the 'waves' are. some guys like to use a slightly larger decore for that reason.

cores and keeping them in line besides paper clips?
i use paper clips (taped shut), and ribbon sliders if i use anything. tension plays an equally important part in core stability imo. the tension between drill and swivels as well as the tension you hold on your wrap wire. if you are really gentle with everything, your cores will have less stress on them and be more inclined to remain parallel.

nice clean work btw

There's all sorts of things out there for keeping your cores stable, ones that keep them flat, ones that keep them in a pyramid for mohawks. They aren't a necessity in my opinion and I have tried a couple of building props (daedalus, patino's) I do like the patino's for ease of use but I honestly barely ever use them as I quite like staggered fused builds and they're pretty much useless for that type of build. The same thing can be achieved by using ribbon wire and and flattening it out, do a couple and stage them across the wire sliding them further down as you reach them.
The better you get you'll realise having the stabilisers just slows down your build time but they definitely helped me to realise the importance of doing the decore and stretch flawlessly or I'd have kinks in the finished alien and making sure the prepared wire was flat and untwisted. Keep at it, once you have that "ahaa" moment it'll all fall into place.

I believe it was on this very forum, not that long ago haha. I should do a few Aliens in the gauges I started with and what I'm up to, to see the difference in sizes. I mean I started I with 32 gauge wrap wire and round here they call that core wire I'm down to 3 30 gauge core, need to work either smaller again or instead go wider for a change.

yeah as i got better at everything, i found most of the battles were fought during prep. if your decore is perfect and your core wire stacks are solid, your swivels and drill are aligned and you are sitting in a comfortable position, you are far more likely to get through a build successfully.

me too. i hit 30/40 and was too scared to try 32/42 yet.

Hey thanks man. For my first time over 3 cores i felt i did pretty good. wasnt that bad. the strech was still to the same point as a normal one. Prep sucked those five just kept twising them selves back up before i could get them secured. Then it was just the start and stop of moving slider not used to that 3 core is just bam done

Couple of 3mm ID all ss316l 3*28g/38g Aliens staged with 28g. Ohms are coming out around .06-.07 before firing properly. A little bit too low for my usual build so gonna make some more in 3.5 ID. Sat in the pyro and on the captain pd270.

Wow cracking coils Jriley I’d be well happy if my stuff turned out that well!

Haven’t tried a pitchfork yet...well I say haven’t I have but not properly because I can’t get the hang of para claptoning keep finding one lead jumps over the other

I have the spools locked next to each other but might be holding to close to the core as I wrap?
