I personally treat them like a framed staple set up in the same way

take one peice and stagger ...reverse the drill to make it all nice and springy

Loop my ribbon round the swivel and bind, then loop the staggered framed and bind it all up...up the other end pull tight and bind inside the staggers... you can glue but don’t have to allow some movement in the spring ...clamp that down and put tension on it.

(...I might try actually snipping the Just wrap at the mid point before bending the frame next time)

Then slowly wind on the wrap pinching every now and then with nylon pliers to keep it flat

You won’t be able to reach the end cause it’ll get too tight in the springs but just leave it long enough to create a single or dual coil out of it when folded (12 or 24 inches needed on the staggered core add extra few spare for luck)

Keep lead close to 90 degrees and don’t pull too tight or the ribbon wants to twist

Erm does that make sense?

I'll try that tonight. Messes me up I get all my prep work from the loop side to the end perfect it seems then I swing the stack the other direction and wrap towards the loop. I feel like if I could wrap the other way it might go better. Maybe I'll give myself some extra lead to loop the frames like you did.

Yeah, I staggered two lengths separately this time and left a good 2 inches on both ends bare to do the attaching

It makes sense, but it sure seems harder doing it than when reading how haha

I only do it that way cause I’m useless at getting exactly the same stagger on separate lengths ....can just snip it half I guess that works too also bound that way before

I don't know if this was mentioned already but I find using hot glue really helps a lot. Also if your fusing is good I find you have a better chance of wrapping success if you pinch the wire around the jig or screwdriver with your thumb and index finger and go really slowly. Watch the ribbon the whole time. If you see even the slightest sign of it starting to twist you can adjust the wire with your nylon pliers and then continue wrapping. That usually works for me.

Thanks King! I was a little discouraged with the wrap after all that work but it will vape well. I threw is 8ply if ribbon to make up for the fact that I ran out of 26g and had to use 28g frames.

Not an easy feat at all with that much ribbon I share your pain mate .....coiling is a bitch at the best of times just hate doing it, often in the past I’ll sit there staring at the stick thinking I might leave this one as a momento hahaha

...seeing all these staggers is wetting my appetite to build... it’s been months since I last had a sesh

Just a little Alien action, as usual. Still having to shake off some rust and now I’m living somewhere different than I have been and had a helluva time trying to find where to put my workstation so that the backdrop was suited well with making sure things were laying down flat (I prefer a dark/black background in order to see the changes of light reflection in the wire more easily). Finally remembered that my TV is mounted on a moveable setup on the wall. If the mountain will not come to Muhammad...

Anyone know of a way to tell the difference between fused Clapton cores in some way? When I was transitioning from Kanthal to N80 I could just wave a magnet over it and Kanthal responded to it where the N80 didn’t. I’m still unpacking and just found a few dozen sticks of Alien Wire and a bunch of Alien Coils
6f798befb49e80c975266e7ae6216ae2.jpg

But I think some of these are all N80 and some are all SS316L and others are hybrids of different core wire and decore.
SS316L doesn’t respond to a magnet like Kanthal, so is there a way anyone knows how to tell the difference in SS316L and N80 cores in a quicker way than just throwing all of them on an ohm reader and testing them out?
I know it wouldn’t be catastrophic to run 2 coils with differing core wires and such...it would just be an issue of one burning faster than the other, essentially, but the OCD in me really wants to be able to know which is which to keep everything uniform and together.

I really don't know how to tell, either. But, if there aren't any other suggestions soon, you can always hit 'em with a butane torch. The ones that color quickly will be the SS ones.

That’s true, I hadn’t thought of that. The only catch would be the hybrid coils where I used N80 Cores with SS316L Decore and SS316L Cores with N80 Decore...not sure how the color reaction with the heat would differ between those types.
I just started tinkering with SS316L cores with N80 decore again recently and couldn’t remember why I stopped making them until I threw a set in my RR2 Mech/RDTA...these little sons of bitches get hot fast! Great for bigger RDA’s...not so much for Lo-Pro style RDA’s or RDTA’s.

You could always un wrap the tip of one of the legs and torch each different wire end

Hand check, got something that doesnt melt my face on my noizy cricket finally.

30g Nichrome 80 2x twisted core with 36g nichrome 80 wrapped around it at about 4mm wraps dual coil. Came to .33 ohms and barely fit on my 20mm rda.

Sounds pretty tame compared to a lot of coils hehe. It’s always feels good to find the perfect coil for your self. I’m really liking 4x30 coils personally. Have you tried single coil?

I've got a noisy cricket 2 and love the versatile of it. Can run parallel or series. Have yet to do a seies build on it though. Had a cricket v1 that I used for about a day. Series was too much for my old lungs .lol

Got sick of not having anything to post....so I spent literally 80% of my day yesterday shooting and editing builds I ran through the previous night.
All of these are stacked and fully edited....no dust, imperfections, blacked out backrounds.
Roughly about 11 hours of work:

I havent tried any single coils bc all my rdas are split by the post. I started vaping with quad coils all the time but now am down to duals bc im learning to twist and clapton wire.

Also to wtmke1 going up to the .33 ohms with macro coils made a big difference on the noisy cricket in series. My first two builds were like .13 and .15 micro coils and i couldnt draft hard enough to keep them from spitting and burning.

Man that to me is way too low for series build. You sure you don't mean parallel. Or are you saying series because you have a regulated mod that the batteries go in series. Because you're talking well over 100 watts . 470 watts to be exact

WOW that's a lot of fantastic work. I don't think I've ever seen so many great builds in just one post!

We should have weekly builds challenges
That's a great idea but honestly @raymo2u would wipe the floor with almost every single one of us, if not every single one of us. He's already been through this at an extremely high level. Plus we all have different variations of what we are really good at. I've done maybe one or two coil porn type builds but most of my builds are based off functionality and getting a good vape. Maybe if we did a certain theme every week but there was no judging. You could even start a separate thread for it.. maybe.. I dunno. But it's a great idea. I think it would make people venture outside their comfort zones and everyone would improve as a result of it. I just don't like the idea of there being "winners" in this particular situation because it is such a subjective thing, ya know?

Lol I was thinking criteria such as demonstrable progress by a builder over time, maybe a “no dslr“ rule, gauge limits, I’m sure there could be a way to level the field and have fun. Like nascar, “stock coil building”!
Haha I like you're idea. I would definitely partake. Since you came up with the idea we could call it the @chrisakasparky challenge.:D

I would be handicapped to one hand, one eye, one spool paraclap, and a specific set of wire ;):D
Many of you guys are just as good in your own areas. Ive just have had time, practice, and experience with build offs.

I hope the level of editing/touching-up shows...No dust, heavy scratches, imperfections. I may show the original pic side by side to a fully edited pic....just to give you a grasp on how much is actually done.

UPDATE
Unedited then Edited:

2 days worth of wire when I'm in full build mode:giggle:
Speaking of which, I need to order 2 more.

While I kinda hope I never have to buy 26g nichrome again :teehee: I don't wanna do bulk or wholesale, I'd rather just fuck up wire all day trying to do something new:grumpy:

I didn't have Any 26g n80 though, and this was the best deal :teehee:

@raymo2u I am testing out some SS pentacore 28g Aliens I did. Man, I see why you like those coils. The flavor off of them is dotish. My word, I've never had so much depth to flavor before...and I've vaped a whole lot of Alien Framed Staples(which would outperform them with a lot of power through them). I think it is my new heavy hitter.

My first alien stagger. Woot. A little sloppy but I’ll take it.
975af52dff1e80bf3a650da14ef2d14d.jpg

Killer first try, really first? I dont think my first try made it to the coiling stage lol

Now I guess I have to try pitchforks, to keep up with your build type progression

I've had all-ribbon alien staggerton with 3 staggers in my head though, finally got the decore gauges and # of ribbon strands right...I think lol

IF your not already, use them on a mech..preferably dual parallel.... though you can get away with it on VTC5a and Samsung 20S cells on a tube. Just make sure the cells dont get too hot to touch and you will be fine.

Well first success hehe. I tried it one other time but I think I messed up my alien math and just decided to try some other time.
