I finally got round to trying out the pulse 24 that was included with my squonk box. After hearing a few positive reviews about the flavour on this atty I was expecting something special.
Unfortunately the vapour I am getting barely has any flavour whatsoever. I’m sure this will be down to my inexperience with the atty and what sort of builds it likes but I’m using the same juice with my Ammit 25 which is giving far superior flavour. I’m getting plenty of vapour.
    I’m using dual 24/36 Clapton’s with a final resistance of about 0.25.
After my initial disappointment I hit google and found that lifting up my coils might help so I raised them so that the air channels were pointing towards the bottom 1/3rd of the coils, allowing air to pass under the coils as apposed to pointing them directly at the coil. I closed down one of the air holes restricting the airflow but still no flavour. I have a freshly charged new Ijoy 20700 and my wicks are juicing perfectly. I’m completely lost on what I’m doing wrong.....
Anybody experienced with this atty? Any help appreciated!

No matter what I try I cannot get good flavor from this rda and I have tried many coil configurations. I have heard better things about the pulse 22.

I tried the same tank at the store so I know it definitely has potential. I wish I’d of asked what build he had on it or taken a peek myself.

I haven’t used the pulses although I did watch an interesting vid on coil placement and airflow not working how a lot of people’s says it does ...he mocked up a smoke chamber for it to demonstrate on the pulse

from what I saw the guy in the vid was saying try lowering your coils so top of coil aligns roughly to top of the tube max 3mm I’d

    Worth a shot :)

You can try closing it down to one hole on each side but I think 0.5 ohms is too high for a mech and that's probably what is causing the lack in flavor.

Try a lower wrap count on your coils to get somewhere around 0.2 - 0.3 ohms.
Dual fused 26g or tri core 28g is what I have been using on the pulse box at about 0.25 ohms.

I have the 22mm and put the coils pretty low for best flavor and shut down one of the airflow holes.

Thanks. This always happens to me when I try a new atty. It takes a few attempts to find the ideal build and then usually I’m golden. I’ll check out the video and reduce the ID of my coils and go from there.

I absolutely love Morten Oen's videos. They are so informative and so many of his conclusions are against what is commonly given out for advice.

I don't think he is right about everything, even with a cardboard rda, but he certainly made me look at atomizers through a new lense.

Have to say I’ve started watching his stuff as well caram posted a link when I was asking about the deathtrap I don’t necessarily agree about Oens stance on flat wire but positioning is really interesting made me think differently for sure and seemed to help on some of my other RDAs

I'm surprised nobody gave you the real reason why. it's simple, your build isn't good to run on a single battery mech. IDK why VV included the 24 and not the 22 in the kit which would have suited it better, but they aren't the 1st company to do that and won't be the last. the pulse is also a poor performer and suffers from quite a bit of voltage drop If i had to take a stab at it, i'd say at best your getting about 50 watts or so which is not enough for that build.

as far as coil position goes that looks pretty good a little lower would probably improve a bit as well. I like mortens vids and he actually told me i was the inspiration for him to start but he has some fundamental issues in his tests he doens't create a seal or any suction on the atomizer. hovering a vacuum over the top isn't the same. it would be like vaping by hovering your mouth over the drip tip instead of on it. try it and you'll see the big difference. without doing that, his coil positioning doens't really do much. some have said it helps but i think it's placebo as many have said otherwise.

I agree a 22mm atty is better suited with a single cell mech but the pulse 24 does pretty good with a single 3mm - 3.5mm fancy coil of your choice.
I have the 22 and love it buy my buddy has the 24 and it vapes pretty well with a single coil in it. My 22 has better flavor and as expected his has bigger clouds.

@32bitlord try throwing a fat single coil low on the deck (under airflow) ohming out at ~0.2 and see how it goes.

Based on the video I went for a couple of much smaller 3mm ID basic parallel coils. I spaced them as far away from each other as I could do they were almost touching the air tubes. I also lowered the coils so that the air was directly hitting the sides. The increase in performance is big, but still not perfect but I have a couple of tweaks for my next build. This tank seems to operate much better with small standard coils so far.

Inspiration to start doing smoke chamber stuff, nice how’s that come about SRR?

His equipment and set is not perfect but for a low budget “what have I got laying round the house” it’s something I haven’t seen many others doing which I think is a good effort and worthy of a watch, hopefully in time he’ll be able to upgrade his kit somewhat.

Still reckon it’s worth a go just out of curiosity more than anything else, if it works out great, if not put it down to experience and just go back to what you would do normally bitlord :)

Let us know what you settle on I’d be interested to know what you found the best placement to be after tweaking as I might pick one of these up at some point :)

I think another way to remedy this would be to use 2 18350's while still using a heavy build. This probably isn't the most practical advice but I think it should be considered if your single 18650 can't keep up.

He's from Reddit. Is a fan of my reviews and seen my flavor chasing video and basically took that and wanted to expand on it. He's a good dude and it's worth a watch but he just needs to shore up a few things to make the info more accurate

Why is that? It doesn't help at all if you just tell someone they are wrong without telling them why.

Morten Oen reccomends this in one of his videos and it seemed reasonable to me. I would like to learn something though if you care to explain why it's a terrible idea.

All of the 18350 batteries have very low amp limits. IIRC mooch didn't list any over like 10 amps CDR. He is using a .25 ohm resistance and getting roughly 7 volts when you account for sag so do the math and see why it would be bad. If morten did recommend that he's gonna get someone hurt I'd be very disappointed in him

Wow I didn't realize the top 18350s were only 10a. Why would these ever have been utilized for vaping?

Back in the days people thought building below 1 ohm was insane. Not many amps were needed. You could run a mech with a 1 ohm MTL coil in a kayfun and it would be about 4 amps and 16 watts. Almost nobody uses 18350 anymore since things have changed. My 1st full feature regulated mod was 11 watts. An 18350 would have had more then enough amps for that.

It's in his review of the pulse mod. I'm pretty embarrassed that I recommended that without knowing about the low amp ceiling of 18350's. I just assumed that if someone like Morten was doing that then there must be suitable 18350's.

Doesnt the pulse mod take a 18650 or 20700?

Yes but 2 18350's fit as it will be the same height as a 20700 and same diameter as an 18650.

Ahhh sorry I see what you are all on about now so he recommended running them in series instead of a single battery or something to power the 24?

I’ll go look up the vid it’ll be easier haha

That's why it's important to not believe everyone with a camera lol. I know it sounds ironic coming from me but I didn't expect people to listen at first you have to prove your worth I've done this over the past year around many places. We shouldn't just trust everyone new that pops up. Ever since I got sent stuff for review everyone has been trying to copy me and it's led to a lot of bad info.

After many builds, and almost giving up, I finally managed to get the flavour to pop on the pulse 24. Iv changed my opinion on the pulse 24 and I’m getting awesome flavour now.
In the end I found basic Kanthal parallels to work better over all the clapton and fused builds that I tried. I’m using a mech so those builds would probably be fine on a variable device but on a mech I found the best flavour using parallels. I used 2x 3mm Kanthal A1 26 gauge 5 wrap parallel coils. I measured the legs to 8mm to get a good height.
I also found that you don’t need to use a great deal of cotton. I found the flavour muted quickly with too much.

getting a bit closer. according to steam engine though your still underpowering them. flavor is actually muted from what it should be still (yes it gets better lol) http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.html?s=qp&r=0.2&awg=26&id=3&ll=8 based on your spec that link shows you need about 3.8 volts due to voltage drop and sag your getting around 3.44 so your getting about 60 watts when you need about 72. for the pulse mod i'd recommend getting a single coil RDA like the pulse 22 or wasp nano. The mod can actually power it and it'll give you better flavor then your getting now.

I have both the wasp Nano and dead rabbit 22mm which I intend to test in the coming week.
How do you calculate the voltage drop and sag?

Just put a multimeter on the atty when u fire it and it'll tell you what the voltage at the coil is

Also if go pulse 22 over the dead rabbit sq

Excellent glad your enjoying it now :) and thank you for coming back with the info. Was it 2.5 or 3mm ID coils you used?

Also if you were to put this on a regulated device what wattage do you like vaping at, not sure if you were asked that

Probably around 75 watts. Iv never used the pulse on my regulated devices but when I use my Goon in dual I usually like 75. I used 3mm ID coils.

Thanks for the reply. I have a meter at home, I’ll give it a try.
    V. Interested in the chat about 18350’s. It’s something that never crossed my mind. I’m currently using 5 leg Ijoy 20700’s. I have never bought an 18350 battery so know little about them, are there any 18350 configurations that would work better in the pulse box or is it better sticking with the 30a Ijoy?

He may have been going from this information
    https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/t...ch-test-results-and-new-ratings-table.727972/

Note the 'can be pulsed up to 20amps' down below...I don't think I would put two 18350s in series for a 0.25 ohm build though, mayyyybe for a higher ohm
...if I were to buy any 18350 at all lol

Edit: Mooch took down his older 18350 table, and I know I saw another one recently but can't find it. Most recent data should always be used.

Thanks, I remembered him saying dont use MVA, but forgot about pulsing.
He also took down his 18350/18500 table because he hasn't tested newer batteries yet, and a lot of things can change over time...

Is it the general consensus that single coil attys are the better choice for single battery 20700 mech mods? Certainly gonna be better on battery life but you see so many people using big dual coil builds on single battery 18650 mech.

Also I wondered whether it’s best on a mech to run high wattage builds or accomplishing the same vape temperature at a lower wattage. Using steam engine I notice that I could make the same build with a different wire gauge at the same overall temperature but at a much lower wattage. I’m new to mechs so trying to learn the ropes. Cheers

I don’t think there is a general consensus on this bitlord it’s more down to personal vape preference and walking the line between safe amp draw, ramp up time, battery run time, vapour production, flavour, heat of the vape and how quickly it drinks

I think this also answers your second question as well

You could get really into this and argue about achieving a lot of these things using either configuration to be honest (mass, internal resistance blah blah ...on paper single coil are better but are they always?

Experiment is the best way ...For example

I’ve been enjoying a parralel build lately very quick ramp up on my single battery mech inside safe amp draw limits ...big vapour production and I’m not holding the fire button long at all

Ran a single enigma coil before that ...the ramp up was shocking would have suited a regulated mod better (and would have been too low for series mech) was pressing the fire button for a good 4 seconds getting a decent hit

Ok extreme example and I could have run a simpler single coil on a smaller 22mm atty which might tick more boxes depending on what you want out of the vape hence the experiment part haha

Sorry for the super late reply everyone. I found this forum by complete accident
Anyway, I've tried the entire coilology performance kit in this atty, and juggernaut coils and chain link coils were the only two I got any real flavor from. Hope that helps. Oh, BTW, this was in the 24 not the 22.
