Staple staggered fused Clapton

I’ve attempted this coil several times and no matter how perfect my spacing is (I use the double loop method and get perfect uniform spacing) I end up having the zig zag the fuse wire throughout the whole build. This is a super cool coil and I want to master it but can’t seem to figure out what to do. I follow nick devines method of making it by the way.

Do you leave the stagger on the frames loose or bind them up at the swivels end?. I've found it better to leave the Clapton portion loose so it'll move on it's own as you fuse it. But I'm not very good at them either.
