I have a little flooding problem in my basment that need to go away.

I am looking for a 3/4 hp sump pump with battery backup.

Needs to be dependable and quiet.

Hoping that other forum members with basement issues can share their personal experience and observations of the sump pump systems they have purchased and are using.

Hey Unc, do you have a functioning primary as of right now?

No I do not. The basement is completely flooded and will need to be pumped out before a new unit can be installed.

So I am taking the time to research to find the best sump pump I can find and asking the opinions of fellow basment and sump pump users.

I worked in the plumbing industry for a good while, from parts acquisitions and sales to planning and installations. We used Little Giant, Zoeller and Wayne pumps the most. For basements, we always recommended 1HP models, they give the best rise. In the world of 1 HP, Wayne pumps offers the best pricing and availability, they have one hell of a track record as well.

Here is a link to a primary unit and a battery backup unit. in 1 HP

Here is a Wayne at 3/4 HP for the primary.

Thanks so much. I am finding the Wayne pumps locally. I am also seeing a lot of backup pumps by a company called Basement Watchdog as well. Do you have any opinions on them?

I have never had any experience with the Basement Watchdog sir, so I can not give any opinion on them.

My pump is a heavy ass cast iron Zoeller unit but I don't have battery backup.

I have a water alarm switch in the pit though that sets off my house alarm in the event of the water being to high.

The pressure switch for the pump died a little over 3 years after we moved in and was just out of warranty  and I found it to be just a hair more expensive to get a whole new pump with switch.

To empty the pit while I waited for it to arrive because I ordered it online, I picked up a pool cover pump and then routed a hose from it to the sewage pipe discharge for my water softener. The pit has a crack in that causes water to collect under the basement floor, so it took a day to empty it, but it did the job nicely.

Our sump discharge pipe froze last week and I used it again to empty the pit while we wait for the pipe to clear, hopefully this weekend since it is warming up to the 40's.

off topic, @UncleRJ I am sorry to hear you are flooded.. I hope the clean up won't be too bad for you..
if i was closer, i'd come help.. good luck on your research :)

love to know what you find on this.. my basement does it too.. we had a massive drainage system put in..
seems to work for the most part, but havent had many heavy rains lately.. that normally comes in the spring..

Often had basement flooding at my old house.

At one point in the winter when the sump failed I used a 100gpm pond fountain pump connected to a garden hose to drain a foot of water out of the basement. Took half the day but it worked.
