To boil or not to boil Japanese organic cotton?

I boiled some up when I first got some for 10-15 minutes and it just turned to mush. This made it very hard to work with, it was hard to tell the direction of the fibers and was inconstant with thickness. Just like using cotton balls.
For me what makes working with the Japanese cotton so good is the precision of thickness along the length of the wick, going with the grain of the cotton wick so much better than cotton balls.

So yeah, no need to boil. I've never noticed any cotton taste, and IMHO absolutely on par with rayon.
