I have been feeling pain under my right rib cage off and on for about 2 months now. I stopped vaping for a day to eliminate factors that could cause it. When I did this the pain slowly went away and came back when went back on my routine. Is anyone else experience this? It like a dull ache on the right side but right under the bottom part of the rib cage?

Definitely seek a doctor's opinion, but I had the same pain and it was my gall bladder. It was removed because of a gall stone but i still have the pain

Right side under bottom rib is liver/galbladder.
GET THE FUCK TO THE DR!!!
Do not play fuck fuck games with your liver/galbladder log the fuck off and
GET THE FUCK TO THE DR!!

Oh ya I know of what I speak on this, when it goes south it does so in a giant you are going to fucking die sort of way.

I had a co worker's son go through several years of hell until it almost killed him, his galbladder was septic and damaging his liver due to the blockages. something like 350 stones in a dead and calcified galbladder backing into the liver. 4 surgeries, 3 shunts and a possible spot in guiness due to the record amount of stones and him still living.

Mine went fucky in Feb. dropped me where I stood unable to breathe.
ER in shock temp 94.6 and falling while sweating buckets. BP was rocketing into strokesville triage it was 180/126 when they got me in the er it was 220/160 swirling into the abyss's shitter in a rapid fashion.
Dangerously dehydrated, and all was groovy (pain meds to drop my bp due to the pain and the heated blankets!) until it died, I went septic and it was shutting down my kidneys... a kidney stone I passed then was a pain relief but pissing bile, blood and stones while vomiting bile and stomach acid is not fun.
It burst sometime the following day while waiting for surgery.

The problem is in your head. Asking for medical advice on an internet forum.

Will be keeping an eye on this thread and please do let us know the results after seeing a doctor. I have had some pain exactly like you describe and have had numerous tests blood, CT scans, etc. that all show nothing. According to them I am absolutely healthy, about a month ago the pain just mysteriously disappeared with no changes in lifestyle or medication. And the whole ordeal has left me scratching my head as to what it could've been, or possibly still is. I have an appointment with a G.I. doctor coming up that I plan to keep even though the pain has subsided but if he finds nothing I am not sure what my next step will be.

Best of luck, but like others have suggested definitely get to the doc for some tests.

ETA: In no way do I think this is vaping related, don't want to cause any unnecessary alarm in vapers.

I had a ultrasound done sorry forgot about this post. Yep I went to the doctor. I just wanted to know if there was anything going on with vaping and this dull pain anyway. They found fatty liver. I don't know what it means but they asked about if I drink heavily which I rarely do. I have more appointments in the coming days

Gallstones perhaps? I have them, and mostly they don't bother me, but now and then... ow. And vaping doesn't cause them, anymore than it caused the appendicitis I developed after vaping for 4 months. :giggle:

I don't mean to scare people at all I just wanted to know. It ended being fatty liver and I don't know we're it came from but all my liver blood work is normal so I don't know if they are concerned or what. I don't drink hardly like maybe 6 months and not even heavy at that. It's just this is the only new thing I did which why I brought it up to this forum.

I had serious gull bladder pain for years, finally went to the Dr and one ultrasound later I was under the knife getting it removed. Pain is gone now, this was 8 years ago.

    Good luck OP

Don't take this as fact or anything, because I am neither a scientist nor nutritionist.. but I've *heard* that too much high-fructose corn syrup contributes to a "fatty liver."

I didn't mean you were out to scare people, but with the state of vaping being what it is I am very cautious about making medical posts in regards to vaping. I am a drinker as well but reduced it over the past few months and that could be why I started feeling better. Either way fatty liver can be taken care of with some minor lifestyle changes so in that light it's better than what it could've been. Here's to a speedy recovery for you!

Still not good, but cut back on the carbs.
It can be fought just think outside the box on it and avoid some stuff, if you were on meds recently or drank and took tylenol it could affect the liver.
Just some tips I picked up
    • Avoid bad carbohydrates- like refined flour and sugar, white bread, pastries, sodas, and other processed or refined foods. They get converted into triglycerides- the type of fat which gets accumulated into liver.
    • Have healthy carbohydrates- like unprocessed or least processed whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans.
    • Avoid bad fat- these are saturated fats and trans fats. Thus avoid high fat meat like beef, lamb, pork, chicken with skin, whole fat dairy products, butter, cheese, ice cream, lard etc. Cut back on trans-fats by avoiding commercially baked pastries, cookies, muffins, cakes, dough nuts, packaged snacks like crackers and chips, stick margarine, vegetable shortening, fried foods, candy bars etc.
    • Have good fats- these are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Choose cold pressed oil for cooking and those that have omega 3 fatty acids. Some of the good oils include olive oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, peanut oil, sesame oil. Have more of avocados, olives, nuts including almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts, pecans, peanut butter. These are all monounsaturated fats. For polyunsaturated fats, you may have soybean oil, corn oil, safflower oil, walnuts, sunflower, sesame, and pumpkin seeds, flaxseed, fatty fish like salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring, trout, sardines, soymilk, tofu etc. While good fats are good, anything in excessive amounts convert itself into bad! Remember that.
    • Check seasoning- Use lesser salt and sugar. You may like to start using healthier seasoning like lemon juice or vinegar to cut on salt consumption. Use organic honey as a substitute for refined sugar.
    • Use healthy spices- while cooking your dishes, consider using such spices as turmeric and cumin. They can excellently heal fatty liver conditions.

I was diagnosed with fatty liver disease. I don't drink but do have a metabolic disorder. I ignored the right sides pain for years dismissing it as "nothing". Anyway, I had a series of test and ended up with " autoimmune liver disease". Parts of my liver did present with cirrhosis I'm hoping I caught it in time to reverse the damage. The liver is very forgiving. Ask any one who drinks heavily. :)

I like this. I too had NAFL (non-achoholic fatty liver) My levels have since returned to normal, but I'm am guilty of pretty much every example under your 3rd bullet. I have IBS (likely IBS-D) and I really need to get rid of those bad fats :( I should just make all my favorites into e-liquid >_< I already have a great Andes Candies recipe that's so delightful lol

Not going to lie I have cheat moments but accept I will pay out the ass literally when I do.

Currently in the rice, banana, low fat protein thing since I am on a course of broad spectrum antibiotics that can cause some explosive results.

Doing my own research on the liver and nicotine etc etc, found out that 80% is metabolize by the liver. With my taking care of my liver and my body and wanting to continue to vape I'm going to cut the nic. I was doing 3mg anyway but I don't know how much it metabolizes through vaping vs. Cigarettes because what I was looking at was cigarette studies

Nic is delivered the same as smoking first being absorbed through the oral mucosa and lungs. Everything delivered in your blood is filtered through the liver, the spleen and pancreas.
Diet is the big big factor in the fatty liver issue, if you are unable to process the fats and nutrients that are fat soluble you have issues. I would be leery as hell if the MD. said meds first without lifestyle and dietary changes. Often times those meds are very caustic to your digestion.
The liver is angry and inflamed, cool the inflammation.
    avoid
    • refined carbohydrates, such as white bread and pastries.
    • French fries and other fried foods.
    • soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages.
    • red meat (burgers, steaks) and processed meat (hot dogs, sausage)
    • margarine, shortening, and lard.
pro ginger and turmeric, green leafy.. (NOT raw) full fat dairy like greek yogurt.. athens is low garbage no sugar. Pro fruit and veg all the way. Lean meat sans all the antibiotic shit. Peppers!! if you are not a pepper head... build up your tolerance, soon you will be sucking down dave's insanity like water.

Four things to avoid like the plague and zombie hookers.
Soy. If it is not fermented like in soy sauce or dietary aminos it is an estrogen inflammation fest.
Canola. For fucks sake it is an industrial lubricant that would kill your ass until people tampered with it. Causes way more inflammatory responses that processed white sugar and the refining of it you would be better off drinking straight cola syrup.
High fructose corn shit. Now being labeled fructose.. your body does not like it.
Artificial sweeteners like aspertame, splenda and sacrine. your body thinks they are no beuno and converts them into damaging polyesters.

I found this forum, because of this thread. The same thing has happened to me.

I had a dull pain on my right side, it wasn't horrible. On a scale for 1-10, with 1 being absolutely no pain, and 10 being the worst pain in my life, it was a 2, maybe a 3 sometimes. Fairly easy to ignore.

    Except it didn't go away.

I told my primary care doctor, who did some bloodwork and an ultrasound. My liver enzymes were elevated, and he asked me about my alcohol drinking. I do drink, just not much, maybe a few times a month, mostly wine, and the occasional beer. So, I'm not a teetotaler, nor am I a lush.

I suspected vaping, as that was my only other vice. So I searched around on google, and found this and a couple of other old threads elsewhere on the this very same topic. ...So I quit vaping.

Luckily I didn't go back to smoking since I've been vaping a few years now, and had absolutely no desire to pick up that lethal habit again. I used a tank and box mod, for those of you who find this post and are curious. I typically vaped high VG juice, with a nicotine level of 3%. ...for those who might be curious.

After about a week the pain went away.

I really enjoyed vaping, and hate like hell I can't do it anymore. But that was scary.

I'm still having the right side pain. I trying to move to 1.5 nic but a lot of my fav juices are not 1.5. I'm hoping it's the nicotine and not the juice contents. One time I was vaping that pain actually increased so I have a great feeling it does have something to deal with it. I love vaping but this pain worries me i wish I can figure out what in vaping is cause it so I can eliminate it and continue on.

Sounds like you didn't bother to read the thread before actually posting in it . Also your search on the subject to come to the conclusion to quit vaping was from old threads and no actual proven data. So to me I'd say you came up short on your research.

I'm just trying to figure out why vaping would have ANYTHING to do with a pain in your side. It doesn't seem to have any particular logic, just oh, I vape, this pain must be because of it.

Otay, your liver wouldn't necessarily hurt on your right side...and that it metabolizes nicotine
    wouldn't make it hurt.
A pain on your right side might be
A kidney stone..vaping dehydrates, makes you pee...
It might also be your appendix..

    It could also be gas.
I suggest that you see a doctor..in case it's your appendix

What have you done to address the fatty liver you say you were diagnosed with back in September?

Having the same condition, I had to make some serious lifestyle changes to ease the painful symptoms

None are related to vaping and everything to do with what else goes into the body

And it might not hurt on the right even if it IS appendix... I was always paranoid of lower-right pain, though it was always one of my damn ovaries. When I actually got appendicitis, it was mid-level LEFT. Weird as hell. And if it's appendicitis, you don't have time to wonder and worry, the pain is too freaking intense to do anything but go IMMEDIATELY to the e-room.

For generalized pain on the right side of the abdomen, for a man (no ovaries!), I'd suspect liver and/or gallbladder and/or pancreas. Either of the 3 would be very bad news (and don't have diddly-shit to do with vaping)

I see the problem here: Another case of vapochondria. A neurotic condition whereby people who vape suddenly try to blame all manner of medical symptoms on their vaping habits - that they never would have given a thought to blaming on their smoking habits.

I really can't appease these questions any longer because people looking for solutions to what can be serious medical issues by questioning their vaping on a forum can have very serious consequences.

There was at least one case I witnessed of a guy on ECF who wanted to know what this, that and the other thing was wrong with his vaping and what he should change. He was having all sorts of breathing issues and chest discomfort - and the boob was in the middle of an actual heart attack. He admitted as much once he got out of the hospital - a stent later - and got back to the forum.

Was it related to vaping? FUCK NO!!!

Yeah.. not EVERYTHING is because of vaping.

And even if some particular symptom IS because of vaping, at least indirectly... such as, for example, the foot/leg swelling I suffered during my first 6 months as a vaper.... quitting vaping would NOT have been the answer. Oh sure, the problem might have disappeared if I'd stopped vaping... but the cigarettes would definitely have come back, so how would that be a win? The ANSWER to that problem was to address the actual cause: dehydration that had run so completely amok that my electrolytes were totally fucked.

Now I know that thx to Idiocracy and Rip fucking Tripper, everyone loves to laugh and joke about electrolytes, but they're really no laughing matter, as a serious imbalance such as I suffered COULD lead to a heart attack. Fortunately, the steps I ended up taking eliminated or alleviated the problem sufficiently that the edema cleared up, and doesn't generally come back -- unless I happen to miss a day of coconut water -- my problem was an overload of sodium, and a decided lack of potassium, and drinking massive quantities of water will NEVER fix a problem of that nature, it will only make it worse -- I was peeing out all my electrolytes, thx to those massive quantities of water that everyone and their damn brother kept advising on the forum. When I added daily coconut water, and reduced both sodium and caffeine, the problem was solved.

I do drink more water now than I did before I started vaping, but NOT the massive quantities that are so often advised -- too much water can be as harmful as too little.

Joking aside, donkeys are cool, Man.
They're stubborn as heck but they're handy and can pack all kinds of stuff.
If ever I get out of Gotham South I wanna get one..and a goat...maybe some sheep to mow the lawn.

sounds like gallbladder issues if you also get back pain as well you need to go see a doctor and get an ultrasound to see if you have gallstones and if your pancreas is being stressed. I had pains below my right ribcage and in my back
I had an ultrasound and was told my gallbladder was full of stones I was told I needed to have my gallbladder removed I choose not to and started researching alternative treatments for gallstones naturally...that was in September. I changed my diet drasticlly and did alot of other things and today I can eat alot of stuff I couldn't in September I lost 30 pounds I needed to lose...I would say Big Nasty's advice on diet is really good I'd also like to say his assessment of staying away from Canola oil can't be stressed enough.... the shit is just plain fucking bad...it's the only thing I just can't handle and is one of the reasons I don't eat out much anymore...if you are in pain...drink lots of fresh beet juice or eat shredded beets it thins the bile down.smokers are more at risk of gallstones, but I'd suspect it has nothing to do with nicotine and more to do with the all the toxins in smoking the liver is trying to get rid of.I'm not suggesting you avoid surgery, that was just my choice...

I'm not attacking vaping. As I said in my post, I really enjoyed it. It helped me kick a pack a day cigarette habit, and it was fun. I'm just adding to this thread because I had similar symptoms.

Am I absolutely sure vaping caused it? Did it resolve when I quit vaping?

    No, and yes.

I'm not absolutely positive vaping caused the pain, but it did end shortly after quitting. It could have been the particular juice I was using, it could have been the flavor in the juice, OR it could have been a coincidence. I have no idea.

I'm a pragmatist..whatever works go with it..if waving a dead chicken over your head makes the pain go away...do it.

Yes, I'm 50 yrs old started vaping thinking it would be way safer than smoking.
I had quit smoking cigarettes for over 10 years only to pick up something I used to enjoy thinking that it was safer, it would be way safer, well after what I've experienced now I'm thinking it's not. I have had my gallbladder removed and I just had my appendix removed 8 weeks ago now I have what feels like could be an ulcer below my rib cage or between my ribs I had to have a CT scan and that was okay and I had a long x-ray but I'm going to tell you I do not think these are safe long-term if they are used short-term to quit smoking fine but not to pick up like I did I feel like a dummy so I have quit cold turkey I tried to take a nicotine piece of gum and it is really bad on my stomach went down and hurt right away I hope this helps I just would not do it if I had to do it over again. I used fin ecigs..
But I know I smoked them way to much. To addicting.

Neither the gallbladder nor the appendix have the slightest thing to do with vaping.

I hate the idea of smoking an e-cig. The plastic would taste worse than actual tobacco! :giggle:

Clue: if you're trying to smoke an e-cig... YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.
