And I have also seen it fail bigtime on other forums.

What's the difference in bantering back and forth on a thread or a private conversation in relation to what y'all are talking about ?

Faster definitely. Other forums I'm with for other hobbies do big chats on Friday nights once a month or every few weeks on say a specific topics and for newbies it's actually resourceful and for experienced people advanced stuff gets brought up. Some of the topics are actually very interesting and helpful/useful. But every body's mentality is different
