People self medicate with legal, over-the-counter drugs all the time. Or are you one of these that gets a headache and runs to the ER instead of taking an aspirin?

You know they are doing actual research on the benefits of nicotine for a large number of maladies.

Point is I was not talking about extraction you fucking smug shit. IT OCCURS in the nightshade family there is almost no way to avoid nicotine, every single person on this planet uses it in some fashion.
Demonizing nicotine is narrow minded and self righteous not to mention down right dumb.

Who is the one telling a non user that it is ok to use a drug they have not previously used?
I am very nice up to a point. Insisting nicotine is beneficial and harmless is far beyond that point.
I don't know how much research you have done on nicotine, but I do know the amount I have done, particularly in regards to how the FDA classifies it as tobacco and restricts import, when they allow caffeine import. Ridiculous eh? You have to know that stuff to make a valid case.

Politely telling someone that it is not ok to tell a non smoker to start using an addictive or dependency forming drug sometimes is to subtle and more direct terms become necessary. I think if you go back to the beginning and read through, you will find that I have been quite patient. The thing is, the OP was only asking about vaping as a non smoker, looking for information about vaping. Now rather than just saying NO dont do it, I said it is fairly safe, not as safe as not vaping at all, but low risk, and it was best to avoid nicotine, since they weren't already dependent. I'll leave it there, you can read the rest on your own about where this nicotine issue took off from.

I am not siding with our FDA or your fucked up version up there nor splitting hairs about nicotine vs. caffeine.
I am advising a non smoker not to pick up the habit in any form, be it vaping, snus, snuff, dip, smoking, patches, gum or even sticking it up their own ass. It is their choice on usage and form, but they should be informed the route you seek is the journey you will deal with.
Their life and choices and all that, but pointing out it is in the food we eat, but it not some boogyman demonic thing as the propaganda makes you think that it is.
Is it dangerous? you bet it is depending on concentration.
But then again so is dihydrogen monoxide. Lets demonize that while we are at it.

if you weren't talking about a nicotine level equivalent to vaping or smoking, why would you bring up the trace amounts in tomatoes and eggplant?
The issue was not about avoiding ingesting nicotine, the issue was about telling someone to ingest nicotine in a level high enough to cause a dependency and side effects. Posting that it takes 20 pounds of eggplant to equal the nicotine in one cigarette is basically just telling you how stupid you sounded.
I am not demonizing nicotine, I am stating if you don't already have a dependency there is no need to start one just because you want to vape, and that nicotine does carry health risks. No risk is better than some risk after all. Now that being said, are you willing to state for the record, that nicotine does not carry any health risks? My point was not about the health risks of nicotine, the point was about someone telling a non user to start.

You know what is funny? We are saying the exact same thing. My original reply was vaping with 0mg juice is low risk. There are some negative effects, but those are gone within a couple hours of stopping. Your main objection, was I got fed up with arguing with a person telling a non nicotine user that is was ok and beneficial to use nicotine, which we both know is false.
    Specifically....
which prompted my comments about this person not being the OPs doctor and prescribing drugs.

(pst. caffeine is more harmful as far as possible side effects go, but I don't know of anyone who actually ever died from drinking coffee)

Sorry dude your ANTZ is showing.
    Sheeple bleating.
Do not lump me in with your misinformation, it could not be farther from the truth.

ok, start with links to the source you are quoting...please include at least one link that has links to studies done on the subject

just because someone I don't dislike says something doesn't make it true, I need cold hard facts

And did that work on you when you started smoking?
Rather than just saying DONT do it, let the person know what the risks are and they are going to make up their own mind. Basically, it is "don't but if you do, here is what you need to know... " Which is better by far than just saying don't and having them run out and buy some crap mod that blows up because they decided to try vaping but couldn't get any help on reducing the risks. As for my information, you will find I am 100% precise in every last detail.
ANTZ? I see you found a catch phrase. It doesn't apply, but it is a catch phrase. What you gonna quote next? How your computer got hacked? There is a better word for that. It's called "STUPID" as in.. i posted my password in an email or left it on my desk or gave my password to an unknown web site. But it is a catch phrase. I wouldn't say it makes you look like you know anything more than a catch phrase, but go ahead, and misuse it all you want.

I'm not anti nicotine, I am anti drugs. Huge difference. Anti smoking? You are god damn right I am. You try watching both parents and 3/4 grand parents and an uncle die from smoking related illness, and holding your mothers hand as she chokes out her last gasp because of lung cancer she got from smoking, yeah, it tends to make you an anti-smoking advocate.

This is a forum on vaping and getting information on vaping. It is not a blog for you to post your opinions. It is YOUR opinion that if you don't smoke, then don't vape. If you want to post that opinion, go start a blog. A person asking for help is looking for information. Saying "don't" is your opinion, and does not give any information. What I am saying, and have been right along, is it is better not to vape unless you are quitting smoking, but if you do want to vape for whatever reason, here is the information you need to get started and finalize your decision to vape or not. Telling someone that does not use nicotine that there is 0mg options available is better than telling them to go ahead and start using a drug they never used previously. You don't see me telling anyone that some organic substances help with muscle spasms in MS patients, so go ahead and do it. Which is EXACTLY what was said regarding nicotine and Parkinson and Alzheimer disease. What I did say, was if you don't use nicotine, you don't need to start using it to vape. Simple.

I don't keep a list of this stuff, but that site opened my eyes and made me start looking rather than simply accepting ANTZ gospel.

    "Dear Potential Non-Smoking Vape User,

As a legal smoking-age adult, if you must ask a forum of users if you should vape or not, then the answer is "NO" as you have not performed your due diligence in researching the potential hazards involving inhaling foreign material into your lungs and the addictive qualities (be it positive or negative) of nicotine. After proper research, if you've made the informed decision to begin vaping, we will support you in your newfound endeavor in the form of equipment choices, flavor choices, and safety measures. However, we will not be the ones to make that decision for you nor offer you advice in that decision. We are not medical professionals, chemists, or clinicians, and while you can vape using no nicotine at all, the introduction of a known addictive drug into your system is a decision we would rather not put ourselves in the position to make. The decision to vape is yours and yours alone and, like the rest of us, you choose to accept the benefits or consequences of such."

    Fair disclaimer?

Okay, guys, let's think about it on this level. I see where you're both coming from, but damn.

You don't walk into a bar having never drank so much as a Zima then ask the bartender "I'm intrigued by the concept of getting drunk. Should I drink and if so, what?" Is he going to give you a history of the brewing process and how Whiskey with honey and peppermint will calm a cough? No. He's going to send you to the Goofy Goober across the street.

So why come to a Vaping Forum and ask should I vape having never smoked and know very little, if anything at all, about vaping.

After reading all that back and forth, my view stands: if you have to ask, then No. While this is a vaping forum, that guy has ample information at his fingertips here and elsewhere to come up with an informed decision himself. I feel that we are not required to hold this guys hand through the entire process from the chemical composition of nicotine all the way through his first puff.

I understand the need to "educate", but...

BigNasty is right. If this grown-ass guy is too F'n lazy to research for and decide for himself, then we shouldn't put ourselves in the position to trust him to not blow his face off when he branches out on his own.

Now when he comes back and says I'm ready to vape, how do I start? Give him all the information overload you can on juice, batteries, mods, the whole kitchen sink.

But, shit, man, he's gotta meet us halfway.

Well.. this IS in the "how do I get started" forum. Asking vapers IS research. Then of course he has to decide for himself to start or not. Now one guy in another forum went out and bought his 75w mod and a 7 amp flashlight battery to go with it. By asking first, he could have saved money on that worthless battery and added a couple dollars to get a proper battery. We always recommend the same batteries. High Drain, LG,Samsung,Sony. Of course we need to tell a new vaper to stick to regulated, so he doesn't blow his lips off like that idiot did last Feb. Short version.. he walked in, bought a hybrid mech, a cheap battery and stuck a tank on it and BOOM! Hard short on the positive pin. And guess who he blamed? Vaping of course. Now a lot of the old timers didn't have forum members to consult. They had to figure it all out on their own. Researching on Google is just going to return vaping forum pages anyway. LOL by now, this thread will be on Google. It isn't up to us to tell him not to vape. He is going to decide for himself regardless of what any of us say. Just like when we who smoked started smoking. Did we listen when people said don't smoke? Of course not.
Now telling the guy that it is better not to start vaping is great! Proper way to go, but also adding "But if you do decide to start, this is your best way to go" and start the guy off right about batteries, about starting with a regulated mod, and that you don't have to use nicotine in vape juice to vape, it does come in 0mg.
Now before I started vaping, I did the research, the google searches (and got the results I mentioned, forum posts) but also asked at the local vape shop when I went to purchase. Hopefully, this guy will do the same, talk to the vape shop staff and work out what is best for him to start with. At least by asking here he wont be going home with some 300w mod and mutationX RDA. (although it would be funny as hell to watch him take that first hit) *if you remember back to your first puff on a vape* I do.. and it was all the shop owner could manage to not burst out laughing. Remember, we are here to help, not to judge. We as smokers that started vaping are quite outspoken when it comes to the FDA taking away our right to decide to vape or not for ourselves. Do you think WE have the right to do the exact same thing we are upset at the FDA for trying to do? We have to assume he is over 18 since this is an 18+ forum and you can't (legally) buy vape stuff if you are under 18. Perhaps, by giving out all the info you need to know to start, it will discourage him from starting in the first place. It is a far more expensive thing to start than the price of a pack of smokes and book of matches. Although, cheaper in the long run, provided you don't give in to shinyitis. I'm not telling anyone to start smoking mind you of course. Just that in the list of things a person can try, vaping isn't that bad. He does have to make the choice on his own to vape or not, but having solid info to start is better than just running out and buying some mod on kijiji (buy sell trade site for any not familiar). Now I did suggest he start with 0mg nicotine. I am not demonizing nicotine, but he is a non smoker.. why get him started on something he isn't using now if he doesn't have to use it to vape? That's like giving your kid a rye and ginger if all he asked for was ginger ale..
I think part of the problem is the OP is a bit ambiguous and some are reading it as "should I start vaping" while others are seeing "I am thinking about starting vaping, what do I need to know?" Kind of like when I went to the local vape shop. I was deciding if i should start or not. The guy took over an hour going over different vape stuff and helping me pick what was best to start with. He did not once tell me not to start, that decision was on me.

Now I do completely agree with
but the same thing was said when I started smoking. Yes, I knew it was stupid to start, and I did it anyway. Although I didn't intend to start smoking full time, it just ended up that way. I WISH cigarettes had a 0 nicotine option, hell, I would have quit YEARS ago!

I didn't smoke, I picked up vaping at a zero nic to curb my eating while I spend 8+ hours a night sitting at work.
My junk food consumption was out of control. Purely Boredom eating. I tried a bunch of other hobbies but none of it worked as well as vaping.
I still don't smoke, I have a bottle of 1 nic that I use once in awhile. I still only vape when I'm bored mostly at work.
I left it for like a week at someone's house and didn't need it. You breathe a lot more than air everyday anyway.

Do what you want. Your body your choice.

Nic debate not with standing Start with something like the Joye AIO D22 starter kit and 0 nic liquid. I don't recommend vaping for a non smoker but folks do what there going to do so start of with something that gives a good vape. Most vape sites have a selection of starter kits.

Pretty much what I said. We aren't here to judge, just give information and recommendations.
Maybe he won't even like vaping, but the plus side is, if he doesn't he wont form a dependency like we did with cigarettes. I started on 1 puff on my ex-wifes smoke in the morning so I wouldn't choke when I went to the bathroom after she was in there smoking.

And all without @BigNasty ringing the shill account bell...And yeah it seems the new fun thing to do is say you're interested in vaping even if you never smoked...Weird.

I've always been that sort; anything that someone didn't want me to do, that was the first thing I wanted to do. :D You'd think my mom would have caught on, "No, do not study or get good grades, I forbid it!" It might have actually worked. :giggle:

Dude, that's not fair. That is absolutely NOT why I started. I'm a grown man married with kids, I'm/we're far beyond our rebellious stages.

It's rare to see a vaper down here even though there are several thriving shops. I told my buddies I started and showed them vids of conventions and tricks (and Zophie Vapes' eyes), and they looked like a new species had been discovered.

"This is like watching 8mm all over again..."

Everybody had to do something for the first time for an unspeakable number of reasons.

He used the word sheeple. Save yourself the headache and don't bother trying to argue with him.
Logic doesn't work on those types. Anyone who uses that word has a certain veiw and nothing short of nonsense makes any sense to them.
You might as well just spam the word potato.

And just be proud to have escaped jumping on the smoking bandwagon. I started that shit when I was THIRTEEN, and it took 39 yrs to get free of it -- and getting free of it wasn't why I started vaping anyway; I was just tired of freezing to death outdoors. Total surprise to me when vaping actually enabled me to quit smoking entirely.

This is why I really don't get it when people try to stop non-smokers from taking up vaping -- they'd rather they started smoking??? God forbid! Nobody starts smoking for anything like a rational cause; it's arguably the most IRrational thing anyone can do. So if someone doesn't want to smoke, but wants to start vaping... I say go for it! It's MILES AND MILES better than smoking even one cigarette. Nicotine or no nicotine. When people decide they want a Coke, do a bunch of holier-than-thous start reading them the MSDS for caffeine????? Or sugar?????

    "kay then x die"
Pretty sure he wished me dead.
I wonder if that could be taken as a threat in someway?

Don't start Vaping if your not trying to quit cigs or if you simply want to fit in and you've never smoked. Vaping is really intended for those who want to quit smoking cigarettes and shouldn't be used just cause "all the kids are doing it". Hope this helps!

I can't believe how many ex-smoker vapers think people have to start smoking and work up a really hard habit before they're entitled to vape. What total fucking IDIOTS.

Well to be fair. Why vape? Just why?
Its better than smoking, but its not good for your health. Its a 1000 times safer than smoking, yes. But ehy put shit in your bodsy that does not belong there? Its like using meds, just cause?
If you are going to start smoking, and you are hell bent on starting, just vape.
You dont have to be a smoker to "legitemize" vaping, but why vape? To be cool?
The thing is that, every person have a right to an opinion, so me telling OP not to vape is my opinion.
Why does that bother you? Dont be "that guy"
If you dont agree with someone, tell them. Don't harass people :)
Im all for that you have your own opinion, but don't go insulting anyone.

I know my english is bad, but when you speak 3 lanuages fluently, that is ok ^_^

Nope, i think that when the OP ask people on the internet "should i vape", i can post my opinion, and my opinion is, dont smoke or vape. If you are going to do one or the other no matter what, vape.

First, there are many legitimate reasons to vape without smoking first.

If you would read the whole thread you will see why.

    To PREVENT smoking!

If vaping didn't exist, people would still take up smoking -- and some do anyway. But those who try vaping first, most likely never will take up smoking habitually even if they later try it, for the simple reason that burnt tobacco tastes like ASS compared to the great flavors of vaping.

No problems with your language; it's your logic that's seriously lacking.

    You are one dense mf.
    Im saying! Again.
    Vape > smoke
    But why vape?
If you are stuck between smoking and vaping? Again. Vape > smoke
I'm on VU... i'm a vaper for 4 years now. I work at a vape shop.... i love my job.
I'm saying. Dont vape, dont smoke. If you need to do the one or the other. Vape....
    Understand???
