Interesting story that goes with this picture. The lady who owns this dog noted that he always -- ALWAYS -- ate every last kibble in his bowl every day, then one day she saw he was leaving several kibbles in the bowl each evening. She also noticed that in the morning, his bowl was empty, yet the dog slept with her every night and she did not think he got up in the middle of the night to finish them. So one night she stayed up and watched his bowl and saw a pregnant cat come through the doggie door and eat his kibbles. He clearly was saving some of his food each day for this expectant mother. The lady started putting out a little more and the cat moved in and had her babies in the house. She adopted the cat and, when the babies were old enough, found homes for them. The dog and cat now live together in her house as best buddies, each with their own bowl of kibbles.

Another cool story: this animal shelter tried a program that helps the animals and local school children. The kids come in and read stories to the shelter cats, who appear to love the attention they get and the kids are learning better reading skills and appreciation for the cats.

I've seen several shelters that do this. One has photos of the kids with dogs, and the dogs are paying rapt attention.
