Vice grips.... Or a nut cracker. You can also try a knife to separate the bottom ring which I find makes these caps easier to open once the ring is off.
Swearing at it may help as well. :)

I have arthritis in my hands, so I can't work childproof caps AT ALL. It really sucks. One of the nice benefits of DIY is I can mix juice into bottles I CAN open, however, now I'm getting flavoring in bottles I can't open. If my husband hadn't been able to do it, I would have had to return the 30ml childproof unicorn bottles two of my flavors from BCF came in. Why unicorn bottles? I can't use them for juice afterward, either, because they're PET plastic and too stiff for my hands to squeeze.

Vaping seems to be mostly geared to the twenty-somethings now, the big guys with strong hands. Us old folks don't have a chance anymore. :(

While I can still use containers with the childproof covers, every so often I get a bottle of E-Liquid with a cap that had been installed tightened by a full-grown gorilla. Same things with some atties and one mod with one of those screw covers that you use a coin with that were in so tight, I thought I would never get it open!

As to vaping being geared to the 20 somethings? Can't say I totally agree with that statement as we seem to have a very wide range of ages represented here.

I do think that a lot of Ejuice Retailers market to younger crowd (with flavor names like Unicorn Milk etc)

When I was still buying ejuice, I sometimes had to deal with a bottle that was fucking impossible; child-proof my ass, it was HUMAN-PROOF. I keep one 18ga needle that has a sharp point, for just this problem; poke the bottle near the top, then press your finger over that hole and turn upside-down, and then poke it again; having 2 holes means you can then squeeze the juice out into another bottle.

No, I meant the gear and "stuff." I know all ages vape, but not all ages can work everything efficiently, you know? I'm so lucky to have found the Engine Nano because it's stupid easy to coil, wick, and fill, and doesn't hurt my hands in any way. Some of my other tanks were a (literal) pain to get a coil installed in, or to open them for filling. And then there's the juice bottle issue, which fortunately I don't have to deal with. I do have to deal with the new flavoring bottles, though, and I can't figure out why they need to be childproof. Aren't they just non-toxic food flavors? I mean, what's the deal? (I already complained to BCF, but they have their stock of bottles they need to get through, so it's a crapshoot as to which ones you get.) Once those wonky unicorn bottles were finally opened, the flavoring went right into glass bottles with regular screw-on caps. I had to make labels for them, but that's no big deal.

Excellent news about the Nano; I'm awaiting one of those from FT for an xmas gift for my son, who's kind of a newbie (almost 5 months) at vaping, so I'm sure he'll appreciate the ease!

I agree about some aspects being more difficult for some vapers; when I first started building coils, I struggled a lot because of my very poor near-vision; finally gotten to a point where I'm familiar and comfortable enough with it that seeing each individual wrap isn't important, and I count them as I wrap. And as you point out out, some of us "old smokers" have significant problems with our hands, which also makes quite a bit of this a real challenge. Before I ever started vaping, I've once or twice had flare-ups of arthritis of my right thumb's biggest joint, just at the base, and when that thing flares up, I can't pick up anything heavier than a featherduster, or use it to apply any force on anything -- hoping it doesn't happen again for many years, and that if it does flare again, my son will be handy to build for me!

That base of the thumb thing is what I have in both hands, but mine was caused by handmilking a cow with tiny teats using only a thumb and one finger. OW! Repetitive stress injury, and at my age, it never healed. o_O It hurts just the same, though, no matter what the cause.

I don't know if your son will be satisfied with the Nano because it's really not a MTL tank. You can close down the airflow and put a smaller drip tip on it, but I've tried testing it as a MTL tank, and it's difficult at best. There was way too much air still for my MTL preference, even with the airflow holes looking like they were completely closed. He might be able to get used to it, and you have said he likes a bit more air, but I'm just sayin'... he might not like it. It IS the best tank I've ever had, though, as far as ease of building, filling, wicking, etc., and it absolutely never leaks. So it has a lot of pluses going for it, if he can make it work.

Yeah, see, I just did an experiment. I shut my airflow completely off and I can still take a lung hit, although it's a restricted hit. I tried just a MTL move on it (unpowered) and it was like the airflow was still open. I don't think the airflow seals off completely, or at least it doesn't on this one I'm vaping on right now.

I'm thinking he might like it; he likes a HUGE airflow, though he claims to vape it MtL -- he loves the Magma Reborn, and I couldn't do a single thing with that. He smoked Camels, sometimes non-filtered, or the ones they called "wides".... very easy draw. I think he might eventually wind up as a DtL vaper, once he's been away from smoking long enough; when he first started, he needed 75% PG or he got really chest-congested, but now he likes 50/50 or even 30/70 sometimes, so apparently his lungs are in MUCH better shape than mine -- not surprising, he doesn't have asthma, and only smoked, off and on,. for maybe a decade. But, if he doesn't care for it, maybe I can swap it with someone for something different, or even just PIF it; it wasn't very costly, from FT.

The pain in my big thumb joint finally did ease, but I can tell just from looking at it that there's damage in there; it's considerably bigger than the same joint in my left thumb. I dread the day it decides to get inflamed and stay that way, because that shit really does hurt! And if it's your dominant hand... damn, that's really gonna be a pain to deal with. My grandmother suffered it terribly, and it appears I probably will too. :(

I stand corrected. I tried this with a couple other Nanos and they were completely shut off, so the AFC ring on the one I happened to be using when I posted that yesterday must just be a little looser than it should be. I usually have the air open on mine, so I didn't notice it before. So, yeah, with the airflow crimped down, and a smaller drip tip and appropriate coil, this tank could be a good MTL tank also. That's just another plus in my book! You can use it for MTL or DL, or anything in between. :)

Well, I ordered some needles for syringes at one point, and rather than the blunt needles I expected, I got sharp-pointed needles. All but one, I just blunted with sandpaper, to make them safer to use. But one, I left sharp -- and sharp 18 gauge needles are REALLY sharp, and since they're stainless, they're also very strong. Sweet-Vapes used to make a "house brand" ejuice, and sold them in plastic bottles, which must have been the cheapest of the cheap, because at least 50% of the time, the childproof caps were actually human-proof -- so, I screwed that sharp needle to a syringe (to make holding it easier), and pierced that soft plastic bottle just at the top, right above where the liquid reached. Place finger over that hole and turn the bottle up, and pierce again -- there needs to be 2 holes for air pressure, or it just takes forever to get the contents out. Once you have two holes, there are a couple of options: if the juice is thin (high-PG), you could simply remove it with a syringe and put it another bottle. If the juice is thick, then once you have the 2nd hole, use a fatter needle, like a 14 gauge (which are almost always blunt needles, hence why you cant start with it), to make it a bigger hole, then simply squeeze the contents from the defective bottle into another bottle.

I originally got those sharps from smoktek.com, but they may not sell them anymore -- at least, I don't see anything like them on their site, but then, I thought I was getting blunt needles when I ordered them, so who knows. To be sure you get a sharp needle, you may need to order it specially, from Amazon maybe; they sell all that kind of medical and labware. You definitely need luer lock syringes and needles if you're planning to use them with ejuice, so that the pressure doesn't blow the needle right off the syringe.

Ok, now that I read you pierce the bottle, I agree. I thought you were piercing the LID at first, because I am not the sharpest bulb in the drawer ;)

Heh. Actually I have tried the knife method, but I'm definitely the clumsiest knife in the drawer, so I was very cautious with that knife, and never could get any traction on the cap, so I gave up on that method -- it might work, but not for me, and if someone is even HALF as clumsy as I am, I can't recommend it. The bottle-piercing method is a pain in the ass, but for me it falls under "being smarter than the bottle" as my husband always says is what's necessary. :D
