I ended up having to get a new phone. My old one just randomly would shut down for no reason.

Was it an older phone?.....Could of been the battery.....but sometimes, the replacement battery is MORE than a new phone.
I break a smart phone as soon as I get it, just too fragile for around here.
Funny I read on line about new tech, a self repairing smart phone screen, an offshoot of 3D ink.
It was an LG Tracfone I've had for 2 1/2 years. Cost me $30.00 so I'd say I got my moneys worth.
The new phone is a ZTE Android smartphone. It was the cheapest one they had for Verizon at Walmart. It was $60.00.
You get yourself an indestructible case for it , like a Speck
Get an Otterbox or LifeProof if you can find one. Sadly they will cost you almost as much as the phone. They seem to concentrate on the high-end models mostly for that reason, and might not even make one for your phone.
