I'm guessing it has some type of braided or twisted coil.

Could the coil have done kind of drip. Reservoir

1 name comes to mind.
twistedmess...
this guy has been wrapping coils sans wick for ages and almost all are highly involved "gimmick" coils but he and his subs swear by them.
I don't have the patience for a 45 minute wrap.
I'll stick with my simple coils and fuzzy wuzzy wicking but I applaud the dedication.

For what it's worth, I did see some on eBay as low as $19.99, and replacement coils in the $13-$14 range for 5-packs. If you do decide to try one, please review!

I googled ceramic sticks, and it looks as if they're used more commonly with other things :) It also looks as if they don't wick particularly well.

I did receive a reply from the manufacturer and they are indeed sending me one for review.

Then we shall see what we shall see:D

About 3 years ago, (before the discovery of cotton) there was as brief time when braided ceramic cord was the next big thing in wicks.
The stuff had military uses and as a result, couldn't be sold outside the US... making it even more desirable.
.

Yeah... That was Nextel XC-116... It was a hollow sleeve that many people still like to use. There was another version, the XS series that was ok for export.... But I'm not sure how the composition differed.

They're sending me one for review as well. I'm more than a little skeptical, but I'm a bit excited as well. They contacted me maybe 2 months ago to review it, and every two weeks I get an email saying "two weeks"; so who knows when it will actually get here. Kinda reminds me of the movie "The Money Pit"
