Hi all!

Can I get a little wire buying advice? I am gonna order from AtomizerWicks but am unsure of what awg etc to order....

I am planning on ordering ss317l, nichrome, and kanthal so I have options for building.

I will be building for a couple of dna75 squonkers, a Reo meh and other regulated mods (alien, predator etc). Will be using the DNA tc, although this is my first DNA so I'm learning tc, otherwise most will be vw power mode vaping.

For the squonkers I want to build .5 and above and am looking for quick ramp up, great flavor basic coil build using coilmaster jig.

For all others I would like to stay around .2 and above, again simple coil wraps (would like Clapton wire but I don't see premade spools on the site and I don't have drill etc to make my own).

So basically can I get a recommendation on a shopping list (awg assortment etc) that will suit my desired builds?

Thanks for any input

Hi @BPROSEK

I would say for wraps get some 36, 38,40 (NI80,SS)

And for cores 26,28,30 should do you (KA1,SS)

Ribbon if you care about that for framed staples etc (KA1)

0.5 x0.1 goes with the 26g
0.4 x0.1 goes with the 28g
0.3 x0.1 goes with the 30g

28,38 are my most used (mainly because until recently I lacked the other gauges lol) but ramp up is decent with them

Heres a complaint for Atomizer Wicks 38g. First time using them because they had 500ft 38g for a good price. The wire comes off the spool very curly(not good for standard parallel clapton) and so far I have not been able to use it for an alien because it snaps during the stretch. It breaks very easily, more easily than my LV 40g which has not broken on me yet. Not sure if I got a bad batch or what.

I've only ever used their ribbon and I was pretty impressed and I'm sure you all know I use ALOT of ribbon.
The spooling was a bit sloppy but it never got stuck on it's self and it was very straight. The quality of the metal was what really impressed me though. Compared to LV it was night and day.

I'd contact them directly and see if they'll replace it. There could have been an issue with the tension spooling it which stretched it making it weak.
I can't imagine fuse wire worse than LV.

Yeah I also got some .3 ribbon from them which is great, but the 38g N80 is extremely brittle, and very curly. I can't use it for aliens so I'm pretty much using it as practice with staggered builds. I did figure out a way to paraclap it by taking a length off and respooling it on a different spool and using dual spool. Its just too curly to do the normal way and catches/kinks/binds.

Can you provide any details about what was wrong with it?

Amazon -- you should be able to return it if defective... however, define "defective"

I couldn't tell u exactly sorry. To sum it up I think it just isn't what I was looking for. The wire is quality tho. Spooled well, not dirty. Just did not result in the vaper I was looking for.

OK, good, not a quality issue.

I hardly ever use KA1 wire anymore. I'm 99% SS316L and 1% Ni80. The only time I use KA1 is for playing with new coil builds and practice.
My SS316L works out really good if I'm in the mood for a TC vape or if I want to just hit it with power mode.

Kidney Puncher is the best I've found, Atomizer Wick comes in second.

I use Temco for my practice wire, good wire it's just a bit springy for me.

Stealth vapes for me as I am in the UK.

Crazy wire is OK, but I find stealth vapes wire to be nicer to use. Crazy wire often has a black residue over it that needs cleaning before use, while I have never had this with wire from stealth vapes. Crazy wire also do not publish TCR values while stealth vapes do.

Anyone tried sandvik wire?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sandvic is who invented Kanthal and who holds the trademark for it. It's also the best quality of Kanthal there is. The brands that I currently know that are actual real Sandvic Kanthal are
Kidney Puncher
Atomizer Wick
Temco

So.. i have experience with SS316L but i have never seen this . I just made some aliens 28Gx3 (temco ss316l) wrapped with 40G (kbee ss316l) they turned out gorgeous.. colored and posted them .. I went back to working the coils to make em glow evenly and this is what they looked like after.... They are brand new never used them.. Had me so paranoid i just took em out.

Few of my SS316L coils went like that and I know it's quality wire used it in other builds and it didn't go bad

Only thing I did differently was dry burn them for too long I think.... a gentle glow is all I needed then stop ....still vaped them probably shouldn't have

I get you. Maybe I just can't see in the pic what you saw in person. Could very well be something in the wire that couldn't take the heat. In any case, you did the right thing for your own peace of mind, and that's all that matters. Are these the same ones you posted over in the porn thread? If so, they looked awesome before they went over.

So is it safe to say temco's ss316L is solid? I noticed it was only mentioned at the list at the top that temco had ni80 and kanthal, nothing about ss. Only bummer, they don't seem to have too much in the way of higher gauges for clapton wraps. Ss tops out at 32ga, ni80 tops out at 36ga. Might have to consider coil society for 38ga.

Just for kicks i tried kbee Ka1 ribbon. Omg its nasty. My finger tips were charcoal by the time i finished stacking a 14pĂ—.4 staple with Kbee. It looks and feels like graphite.

Using fairly small words, can someone please explain what the difference is between ss316 and ss316L?

A. The main difference is the lower carbon content, 316 being 0.030, 316L being as low as 0.016. Other elements are also somewhat lower, such as sulfur, phosphorus and copper. The 316L is more ductile when annealed, and is markedly more corrosion resistant, especially after welding.

So 316L would be preferable over 316 then?

Ive only experienced this with their ka1. The 38&40gN80 I bought from kbee is just fine

Yeah I haven't gotten filthy SS from them but their Kanthal is fucking disgustingly filthy. When I brought this up to the Owner he said sorry, I'll let my stock people know. No offer to make it right, he just blew it off basically telling me to go pack sand.

If their quality control is so bad and with their attitude you can't trust them. There are much better sources of wire out there for equal to even cheaper than them.

Real Sandvik Kanthal plus their SS is smelted in Sweden and Milled in the US.
  • Atomizer Wick
  • Pure Atomist
  • Temco
Why waste your money on shit from KBee when there are much better sources and quality?

Thank you very much!
NP, also since I mentioned I myself prefer 317L the difference between it and 316L is -

Chromium, Nickel and Molybdenum contents are slightly higher in the 317L in comparison to 316L and as a result will provide significantly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion at ambient temperatures.

Why I use it back when I was deep into TC 317L performed better in TC. Now that I'm 99.99% Mech's I like it due to a very slight higher resistance than 316L which at times means at times one less wrap. Then from what I've found 317L does hold up better than 316L IMO.

I haven't seen many places sell 317, although I did run into it once. Can't remember where but I remember wondering what the differences were. :)

Crazy Wire sells a variety of SS including 317L and Atomizer Wick's SS is all 317L

even though i have used hundreds of feet of avs clapton wires
i think ill be sticking with lv clapton ss wwire
it is tempered better
so it actually is much less springy and easier to make coils

the last roll of avs wire i used half way through a 25ft roll it got so springy i would have to pulse half teh coil together then the other half then combine the two halves because the tweezers werent wide enough

AVS is good but ive had several issues over the past year and a half, that any one by itself is no big deal but they do compound after a while

Not sure if I should post this here but it's somewhat on topic. Does anybody know of a supplier for good quality SS316L in Canada? I've been using the UD stuff and it seems not bad but from my research there are much better quality wires out there. I'd order from the US but the shipping is honestly ridiculous and not worth it unless I buy in bulk. The shipping in Canada isn't that much better really but I get my product quicker. ;)

I may end up just ordering from AVS or KidneyPuncher but just thought I'd check here first. I'm not into complex wires ... YET ... just simple round wire builds. So I don't need a lot just a few spools of 24g, 26g, 28g SS316L. Feel free to move my post if I should have just started a new thread.

Thanks for the link. I have been GOOGLING for a while and saw that site. However I'm not certain of the quality of their wire. There isn't much info on the website and it just says 'We sell only premium USA made resistance wire for use in RBA/RDA electronic cigarettes.' Anybody can say that without giving a source. LOL

I was trying to find some of the trusted names that others use. I figured somebody on the forum may know of a good source in Canada or tried some other brands that are easier to obtain and have some opinions on the wire. If anybody has tried the VapeWire please share your experience with it.

The Stainless Ribbon is all I use from them, I love the quality...but I find it a bit expensive for anything else. Kingorchid on Ebay is great for 38g, 40g-50 and is the best spooled wire Ive ever used...then followed by Kidneypuncher/CoilSociety/PureAtomist. But CoilSoceity's ribbon is some of the straightest Ribbon Ive seen.

Can anyone help me understand why is Twisted Messes wire is so expensive compared to the others. Not to mention I cant find any lab reports or any information on the actual wire he uses.
