I'm looking into getting started into diy, and I don't want to go big scale. I just want enough stuff to make a couple batches and see if it's right for me before I spend money on the bigger kits. If you can help, thank you.

You don't need a kit. But diy isn't something you can try without spending money.

Flavors that you need for mix, Elr.com is a great place for recipes
    Empty bottles
    A couple plastic syringes for measuring, I've have a 30ml,3ml and a bunch of 1ml that I don't use.

You can spend about 50 and get the essentials. Part of my cost was a digital scale. Most of the kits have what you need but also have things you won't use. So it may be easier to just buy what you need. Bullcityflavors.com is where I get everything except nicotine. They don't carry it but myfreedsmokes.com has nicotine. It's actually tough for someone to sell you a starter kit. Easier to just buy it yourself. So you can get what you want.

Agree with the above post 100 %
I use a graduated cylinder for measuring, I find it easier than syringes (that is just my method though, others may vary)

Check out Liquid Barn´s starter kit. You can also browse the website for more choices of kits they have. I´m not a professional mixer but mixing by weight is recommended if you´ĺl be mixing small batches.

    *Edit
Check out some recipes you want to mimic so you won´t be blindly picking out random cons and go to waste. Your arsenal will definitely increase as time passes by.

With the Liquid Barn DIY Starter kit you get enough to make 1,400 ML's and still have all the Lab-ware for your journey down the DIY Rabbit Hole. Some of the Flavors they offer like a Strawberry Cheesecake are one flavor to mix so isn't very complicated.

In addition to that. I remember Wayne said that you just get the few things in liquid barn and just get different cons from other site to build your arsenal through out.
