XCube II help!

I went to the vape shop where I work and purchased myself a Joytech Cubis today and I know that it has Stainless Steel (SS316) coils and I have a Smoke XCube II. I didn't realize that I only had Ni200 Temperature Control on my XCube II so I went online to the Smok website to find the firmware upgrade because I had checked out some YouTube videos where you got the update from the site but V1.091 wasn't on there so I did get the tool and update myself to V1.094 which is the newest firmware available and I don't see SS on my mod, just Ni. I went to download the Smok BEC app again and it wasn't there and I did some checking around and realized they gave the whole app an overhaul and made it Vaping Tour. I downloaded it and I am seeing all these people posting on the community page and I can access my XCube II via Bluetooth but, I cannot log into my Smok account because I guess that's where you have to go to purchase the SS mode. When I enter my credentials, the black square with the spinning animation for "loading" pops up and then instantly goes away and it wont log me into my account. I've tried on my WiFi and on 4G LTE data on 2 different phones and still nothing. Does anyone know if I HAVE to log into my Smok account on the Vaping Tour app to be able to purchase the SS temp control mode? If so, how can I get around this thing not letting me log in?

hadn't had that problem with mine. It's still the smok app. After you pair it with your phone just go into app and go to settings then vapor upradiation. there you will see the add ons for ss and ti. gl hope this helps

Huh, I know there was a "Vapor Upgradation" option when I had the app when it was still called "Smok BEC" but I deleted it a while back to conserve space and I used the QR code on the smoktech website to download the "Smok BEC" app and it took me to "Vaping Tour" and was talking about it formally changed from Smok BEC to Vaping Tour and I checked settings on that app while accessing my XCube and I don't see the Upgradation option anywhere.

well I upgraded mine to the new one and then did the firmware as well. This one sucks. I have tried everything to get it to change with blue tooth. It doesnt do crap think they fu. Hope they fix it soon or do some teaching lol. Cause i am stuck as well. Went to the coil section and added new coils and they dont seem to be going over to the xcube ii. So right now in same boat as you.

Huh, I did the coil thing as well and after turning it off and back on and clearing the memory by taking the tank off and pressing the fire button to make it say "Check Atomizer" and set everything back up and clicked "Y" to "Is New Coil?" I went to temp mode and it showed TC-SS and I used it and it set tcr at .00100 and norm and it set to 200 degrees and would fire. I changed it to 600 degrees and hit it and it was using like 67 watts of power when it needs to be capped around 30 watts so it doesn't go dry (which it did using that many watts) so if I can find a way to cap the max wattage output for temp mode, we might be good if yours will show up with the TC-SS. I dont think it was a glitch either because TC-Ni is set to .00600 and my TC-SS was set to .00100. I'm digging around right now to see what I can find about capping the maximum wattage power output in temp mode.

I don't think you have to have a Smok login to do the upgrade. I'm pretty sure I hadn't created one when I enabled the Ti and SS. I downloaded the Smok BEC app a couple weeks ago. I haven't tried any other app, though.

There's not a way to cap the wattage that I know of. You can adjust the ramp mode between minimum, soft, normal, hard and max though.

Yea they did an overhaul on the Smok BEC app and it's now called Vaping Tour. If you go to either the App Store or Google Play Store, depending on what type of smartphone you use, you will probably have an update for it that will turn it into the Vaping Tour app.

Yeah, I just checked. I don't think I'll be doing that upgrade just yet. lol

Yea, I agree lol. I wish I still had the Smart BEC version. :/ They literally updated today and all the reviews on this version is people having trouble logging in and stuff, I looked at all versions reviews and everyone was quite pleased with it. Looks like they messed up some coding or something for the login system on their newest update. I may just go and pick up a Cuboid mod to use the Cubis on and keep my XCube and my Infected tube mod for my drippers.

ok think i got it. You have to setup a few coils in the coil setting. Then you make sure ss one is the current one. After that you just vape away after activation the tc mode. Seems to work now for me. I hope atleast. gl. and yeah if you didn't update app dont. this one sucks. also the upgrade is where it took my options away on mod. now it wont let me go manually to ss ni or ti. I have to use the app.

Wow...sounds like they really botched this one up. The old one worked fine for me. Now I get to just update all my apps individually instead of clicking update all on my phone...awesome. I wish they would make an app that is just for the settings. I don't care about their crappy little Smok forum.

They planned the major BEC overhaul for back in December-ish.
This is too overdue to still be so cocked-up.

My xBrick is half borked. My fault with the old Nuvo updater.
It wont hold settings and Upgrades through a battery swap.

It would be a miracle if I ever fix it, so I don't think I'll update this app for a bit.
Good thread though... we'll see how they deal with the new app.

yeah can't tell if this app is really working because it wont let me do the adjustments manually at all. it seems to work but would like to be able to look on mod screen and see the settings.

just rebooted both phone and xcube 2. now i am able to set it up in app and then go to mod and check the settings everything looks good. only difference i did was i went on ahead and have three coil settings in the coils options. I changed the ss to .00092 like another poster gave me info on instead of its default. then i went and changed coil on app back and forth til it finally was showing up on mod. Everything looks good now. Hope it keeps this up if not will post again later. hope this helps out anyone who needs it. Still like other app.

Hello,

Two things. 1. Smok has a new update for the Xcube II, version 1.095. Biggest change they list is no more app on phone to unlock TC for TI, and SS!!

About time! The update took me a few minutes to find, you have to download a NEW update tool for your PC :

Here is the link to the Smok page,

http://www.smoktech.com/hotnews/products/x-cube-two-upgrade-to-v1095

just go to the link for the download tool, it will be version 1.1. Extract it, then follow the directions. It worked for me, and no issues yet! I could be wrong, but the fonts on the screen look different, and the screen does seem a bit brighter to me... If you update, let me know if you notice that as well, or am I just imagining it????

Second thing, I have NOT updated the phone app on my Android. I could see if I can grab the .apk file off my phone for those who want it(and either know how, or can figure how to), and then you can do a local install on your Android devices....

the last version reduces the lag from pressing the fire bar to the atomizer actually heating up, this does as well. But even when I updated to 1.094 I had to tun the Android app to re-enable TC for TI and SS, this time for 1.095 I did NOT! It's still there, and it seems to work the same as before.

I did the 1.095 and it's good news and a little bad news. Maybe.

First... I half borked mine back when, and this hasn't corrected all of that.

The new version activates Ti & SS without needing "Upgradation". Yeah Baby !
Mine still will not hold the reversed screen orientation through a batt swap.
Or power and temp settings. That could be just mine though.
And I haven't tried connecting to either App yet.

But I'm now getting kicked out of TC with a known good 0.19 dual SS build in a Velocity.
This never happened to me before, so I'm not even up on how others had dealt with it in the past.

It could be the atty, in which case... it'll be fine.
Or it could be something to be addressed in a future update... also fine.

But I really want this mod back... for SS TC. Halfway there I guess.

I upgraded my firmware and app. So far it seems to be working, but I haven't used the app for much. It did connect and I was able to change the LED settings. I noticed they removed the custom power settings. I had just started playing around with those, so it makes sense they would remove it...

Hi Gang,
8 Months of loving my XCube II, updated through 1.096, was my go-to device. Updated with the new 1.097 and has been DEAD since. No going back to previous update, software issues "Invalid Chip ID" when attempted.
Does anyone else have this issue? Has anyone found a solution?

Ok, I'm 99.9% sure I can get you up and running again. I know I have copies of 1.07, 1.08, 1.093, 1.094, 1.095, 1.096.. I also have a copy of the OLDER android Smart BEC .apk file, which is used to activate TC for SS and TI for the older versions..

I just did the update, and it worked fine for me, I am now running v1.097 and TC is back to working without kicking to wattage mode.

So, just so I know where you stand....

When you tried to update did you follow the directions exactly?

Here is how I did it...

1. Download software and extract software.
2. Run software.
3. Select Xcube II from dropdown in product type:
4. Click 'Check New Version'
5. It should display between the new dialogs, 'Latest version v1.097'
6. Now BEFORE you do ANYTHING, look in the directory you extracted and ran the utiliy from, make sure the file :
'1097.hex' is there, AND the file size is 173KB.
7. IF the file is there AND the size is correct, then....
8 Remove batteries
9 Connect USB to xCube II, but NOT to computer...
10 Press and HOLD the fire bar.
11 Plug USB cable into computer(while still holding the firebar on the xCube ii).
12 You should here the Windows sound when you connect a new device.
13 Now click 'connect'
14. The 'Do Upgrade' should now become available
15 Click do upgrade. Should only take about 5-10 seconds at most.
16 Click disconnect.
17 Remove usb cable, re-install batteries, and see if the device will boot/turn on normally and display 'Welcome' and v1.097.

If it does, great, if NOT, then I have a more convoluted method that should work using their OLD original tool. It doesn't rely on the internet, and isn't even really meant for consumer use, but it WAS the way SMOK had their customers upgrading originally!

I can send a link to SMOK where the tool is, BUT you will still need some of the old firmware files(.hex) to use it. If you don't have them, I can put a copy up of v1.094, or/and v1.097. The SMOK site explains how to use the older non-consumer upgrade tool.

Is you still need help, PM me and I'll try to help you...

Also, I meant to say.... so far I have been using TC on SS316l with TCR set to 105 and it works. Odd thing is... I THINK I had the TCR set to 108 before the update, AND the default used to be .00092 for SS316l. I think .00105 is for ss304, so maybe they changed the default?

Of course nothing in the release notes, except :

http://www.smoktech.com/hotnews/products/x-cube-two-v1097-upgrade-guide

V1.097 - IMPROVED FEATURES
Solved the problem of changing to Watt mode from TC mode.

and that's all folks... but hey, so far it's been working better than it ever has before.... Hmmmm... I've always had a problem with lower builds....

Ok, right now I have a .38ohm on it, and it's working great, let me try lower...

Swapping tanks.....

Ok, trying a .23ohm.... Working... so far..... we shall see...

I just tried to update, but when I open the software and hit check new version, it says getting firmware failed, or something to that affect. Anyone else had this issue?

I have not, and it worked fine for me. TC seems to work, and a bit better than the last working version (1.094)

Smok keeps changing their firmware software utility(but NOT changing the version the utility displays), and the OLDER versions will NOT work. As a matter of fact, until recently the older versions would at least download the older firmware and install it, NOW no official/easy way to install older versions.... BUT there are hacks....(which are sometimes needed as if you install a BAD firmware, you can't go back, unlike the Joytech/eLeaf/Wismec utilities).

I JUST tried it, and it did download 1.097...

Just follow the directions. Piece of advice, monitor the directory where the firmware is download to(where ever you launch the 'SMOK-UpgradeTool' from.

The file will be named '1097.hex' AND the size should be 173KB. Don't try to update, until it is there, and that size. I'm not sure what would happen, but why chance it. I have had the upgrade tool display the latest version, start the download, create the file, and then nothing.....ie, the file was never downloaded, and the file size remained 0kb.....without even an error message!

Failing everything else you can do this, BUT do so at your own risk.. If you do NOT follow the directions EXACTLY, you can potentially kill your device permanently.

Use this link :

Download the utility from SMOK, and follow the directions exactly EXCEPT use the file I attached(extract it in the directory where you extracted and run the SMOK utility), as it's v1.097 (the latest).

Hello all,
I bricked my XCUBE after 1.097 update, which had worked flawlessly with all previous updates, through 1.096.
Have received no help from Smok support. Cannot get previous versions to install, "Invalid Chip ID" with all previous firmware updaters. New down loads cannot find previous versions from Smok website. Have done exactly what you've recommend. Still not working, so how about posting those links?
Thanks!

You're welcome. I'm glad it worked for you! I know I wouldn't be happy if one of my mods bricked and the manufacturer was of no help! I also love forums like this, as they have helped me as well...

I've been using v1.097 for a few weeks now, and no problems. TC does work MUCH better in my experience with SS316L, just as well as Joyetech/Wismec/eLeaf mods.....I have used standard spaced coils both 26 and 28 gauge from about .14 ohms to about .5 ohms as well as Claptons and fused Claptons at similar ohms without a problem...

It even happened once when I thought TC wasn't working, no vape, kept hitting temperature protection.....but I wasn't paying attention and my tank was almost bone dry....So no dry hit, and TC protected me from myself....
