Hello all! I have been thinking about purchasing a DNA 200/250 device, possibly the Triad. However, after doing some research, I have found that a lot of people have had issues with the DNA boards dying for no apparent reason. Also, having to connect my device to Escribe seems like an unnecessary pita! So I have come to the Yihi devices, particularly the Sx Mini Q Class. Pretty solid to stellar reviews all around and all settings can be configured in the device. So I'm looking for opinions from the group on both devices to help me make a decision. Thank you in advance.

both chips are good with their pros and cons. do you do temp control? or you just looking for power mode? also what kind of wattage does your builds require? have you looked into FSK chips as well?\
there do seem to be more issues then the norm coming out of DNA chips. personally i have 2 DNA250 devices the Triad 250 and the finder 167 and no issues but i have seen people with issues and DOA units. I don't have a Qclass or YiHi mod, but i do know theya re very nice and well loved with a solid chip. My personal favorites are the FSK chip mods. the hohmwrecker G2 and Hohmslice

I'm trying to like temp control. The only device that I have that does temp control, rx200 2/3, doesn't do it very well. That's the main reason for me looking into these devices. I want to be able to run 316L in temp control and the device be able to do it well before I make a final decision on temp control.
As far as my build wattage requirements, they vary widely. Right now I'm running a dual fused Clapton in a Griffen 25 @ 85 watts. When I'm using my HOG V3, I'm up around 200 watts. On my Releaux, before it died, I was anywhere between 120-150w.
The last and most important thing, I want to purchase a device that is versatile that isn't going to die in 3 months, like my Releaux did.

lol yeah. i usually steer people away from the RX for that reason. very high fail rate. plus it gets super hot over 90 watts due to thin wiring internally. If you want a device that isn't going to break the bank. does amazing temp control (even kenthal and nichrome) and built like a tank with a great warranty on it, it'd suggest the hohmwrecker G2.

    65 bucks on vaporcube.com with code G2flashx1
it's limit is 171 watts which sounds like more then enough for you

I've seen all 3 chips mentioned here that have come DOA. I wouldn't say there is such a chip that's guaranteed to work. I have quite a few DNA mods and had one come DOA. I've still bought another one after the problem (Evolv is taking care of the problem). The thing you have to look at is not whether you have read or heard of someone that had a bad chip but the % of bad chips. I personally think there are way more DNA chips in different devices than the other two combined so you will read of more problems. It just makes sense.

I would recommend you go with the chip/device that you think will best satisfy your needs. After all you are the one that will be using it, not anyone of us. I can tell you the one I like best, but that's me, not you (if you know what I mean). My likes, wants, needs, will probably be different than yours. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Cheers,
    Steve

I have had and enjoyed all three chips mentioned here. In fact I still use all three; but, I do prefer the DNA boards for tc.
I prefer the way the yihi sx boards perform with kanthal and the Rx boards are great as well.
The upside for the DNA boards to me are multiple points.
For one that accuracy, for two is the customization.
Another point of importance to me, is the USA support. This is the biggest point for me. While I have had issues with an sx in the past, I had to go through yihi and varitube for service. With the DNA board, all service is stateside and fast.
I have had several dna40s flop and all were changed in a week. I have 8 DNA 200\250 boards and have never had one fail yet.

to be fair (and please don't take this the wrong way) but I've never seen, heard of or had an issue with the FSk chip. I've also never seen or heard of a DOA slice. I have seen and experienced myself a DOA G2 due to an issue with the 510 pin.

With that said, i agree that every device will have some failures. thats why they have warranties. I know evolv and hohmtech have 1 year warranties and are local to the US. I'm not sure about YiHi

I also agree that the best we can do is offer up devices for OP to look at and steer OP away from known shitty devices. but outside of that OP will be left with a bunch of good options that you can sort through and decide what meets your budget and requirements.

You almost had me convinced on the FSK chip, but then I saw the Jets wrap. You lost all credibility there. JK. I am definitely going to look into the G2 a little more. Thanks for the suggestions.

That's a very good point about support being here in the states. Any issues with the yihi could be a nightmare to get taken care of.

Yihi warranties the board for 6 months and the USB port for 3 months. The rub with Yihi is that if you buy the mod for less than what their MSRP is, they have been known to deny warranty altogether. This is directly from their site:

    Warranty Period

Warranty period of the device(SXmini Q Class & SXmini ML Class Six months) and the USB port is three months from the date of purchase by the end user.

You're welcome. I wasn't trying to disqualify them but I believe it's best to know all the facts before you purchase as opposed to after. It is what it is.

That's where evolv really wins for me.
It doesn't matter the mod its in, they cover the board.
That's also why modders like vaporshark, just swap out the mod if the board is still under warranty.
If the mod makers warranty is over evolv takes over

Evolv, Yihi and Hohmtech have the 3 top boards for vaping IMO so your in good company. I have 4 DNA mods, 2 Yihi mods and more Hohmtech mods than I care to admit. All of them have been solid, I would only stay away from the DNA 75 variety, does not match the quality of the DNA200 or 250 chips.

The Hohmtech mods like the G2 and Slice are the TC mods for power mode users. The DNA 200/250 are the the most accurate but require more user input through escribe. The Yihi mods are really well made but the most expensive of the 3.

My personal favorite for performance, admittedly not looks is the Hohmtech G2. Allows me to tweak my vape on the fly, no need to connect to a computer. My second favorite is the Finder DNA 167 as it comes setup with great SS316L TC modes and a kanthal preheat mode. 3rd would be the Yihi but I don't have one of the newer models and for the price not sure if I ever will.

This is all just my personal preferences though. I was never a big TC mode user until the Hohmtech FSK chip, power mode was always my preference. Just like there is deep lung and mouth to lung vapers there are power and TC vapers. Sometimes I want smooth but most of the time I want a violent and tasty cloud, the FSK chip allows me to get that regardless of what wire type I choose and no dry hits. Call it taste control if you want, it is just my preference, you have to decide what your preference is.

Another contender for the best board may be Dicodes, but they only make boards up to 60w, it's a german company and they give 2 years warranty.
I have 4 of their devices, some for a looong time, and never has one failed on me, they were (one of?) the first to introduce TCR settings.
Also have a SX mini M class for a looong while, as good as the day I bought it, solid devices.

I have to say that between my dna200 and hohm wrecker g2 I like the g2. Both are great but I find myself reaching for the wrecker 9 out of 10 times.

I would love to try a Dicodes mod but the low watts and availability has stopped me. From everything I have read there great mods though and would love to add one some day.

Check out the user's guide to see if the Hohmtech mods are for you, a lot of really knowledgeable people on there as well: http://vapingunderground.com/threads/hohm-wrecker-g2-and-slice-first-time-users-guide.292147/

The Hohmtech mods are the only mods I have that are almost 100% TC, most of my other mods spend a lot of time in power mode depending on the tank used.

That's funny since I only use TC and that's why I favor DNA mods. If I can't put in a user settable TCR/Curve, I don't consider the mod (since I mainly use SS430 and NiFe). That's why I mentioned what's best for one of us might not be best for the OP.

I know you won't even consider a Hohmtech mod, that's why you have never tried one. Don't knock it until you try it though, just because it works differently doesn't mean it won't work.

@Chris80 I forgot to mention the G2 is on sale http://www.vaporcube.com/ use coupon code G2FLASHx1 or G2FLASH. The Slice are on sale as well for $30 with coupon code SLICEPRICE http://www.vaporcube.com/hohm-slice-101w-temperature-control-box-mod.html

Surely the Hohmtech has been around for awhile there is one thing you are skipping its cost is not worth 180.00 it was always overpriced and this kept it from being a real mainstream device its ugly as fuck and outdated in style I agree that it has a very smooth power delivery but for most people vaping at low wattage its overly cumbersome. And that Power TC mode .. Please

I wasn't knocking anything. I was just saying I like to able to add a TCR/Curve. To me adjusting an arbitrary curve until I think it's a certain Temperature is not the same as putting in a TCR. That's me, I'm not saying everyone should feel the same way. Again, to me, one is TC, the other is Temperature Guessing. That's why I didn't tell the OP what to buy, because what's best for me might not be best for him.

I never paid more than $70 for my G2's, they have been on sale for the last 6 months or more, I agree though, I would have never paid $180, will probably never pay that much for any mod. The G2 styling sure won't win any beauty contests but it is tough as fuck with the CNC aluminum enclosure.

I never said it is for everyone, especially not Scary people....lol

As far as the Power TC mode, I guess your referring to TC for Kanthal and any wire? It works but it is user dependant to set up by adjusting the FSK curve, it does have presets for SS, Ni and Ti though.

I've purchased 3 G2s at an average cost of 65 bucks each.
I've purchased 3 slices at an average cost of 35 bucks each. So in total 6 FSK mods for a total of 300 bucks
I wouldn't pay 180 for any mod so not sure where that price comes from. even the full retail is listed at 130.00
The most I've paid for a single mod was 104 for my finder 167. I have 3 DNA devices and 5 FSK devices. I like them both. I don't understand why people feel the need to "choose sides" can we just vape and enjoy it all and be happy we aren't stuck with 11 watt evics like i had 4-5 years ago and it was like the best you can get and were going for 100 bucks lol

I'm not sure if that post was directed at me, but if it was, it's off base.

This thread started as the OP asking what was better a Yihi or DNA device. I told him to pick what best met his wants and needs. I never told him to buy a DNA. I didn't bring up a FSK, which he never asked about. I said what's best for one of us may not be best for him. I wasn't choosing sides. I know what I like and don't pretend to think that's what would be best for everyone. Honestly I don't really care what others like. What every is best for that individual, is what they should get. My life won't be different either way.

You like tinkering around on Escribe, adjusting every aspect of your vape and having a million different form factors get a mod with an Evolv board. You want to adjust everything on your mod and an app, (iphone only for now) and you want one of the best built mass produced mods, then get an SX. If you want to adjust everything on the mod, TC anything, and fire anything then get an FSK mod. It really comes down to your personal preference and what you are comfortable with. The best mod is the one that works best for you. All three boards are very capable TC boards.

Reliability wise if we're talking about an SX mod vs. a DNA mod then I would have to give it to SX. The DNA board does have a warranty but it's a long arduous process. Took them 31 days to turn around my broken VT133 and when they sent it back it still wasn't fixed right. To be honest as far as SX mods go I don't know how their warranty service is because I have never really heard of anyone having a problem with theirs. They're that well made. Lately a few reviewers have been knocking the DNA, Daniel from DJslb Vapes claims that he is getting many reports of boards just failing. Mike Vapes said on Not Another Vape Show that Vapor Shark is moving away from the DNA because they were replacing way to many boards under warranty and it just wasn't cost effective.. So take from that what you will and don't kill the messenger.

I think the best time for vaporshark to move away from DNA, would have been last week, before they released the vaporshark DNA 250, but thats just me

Here you go. They start talking about it at 47:23. If you want I can link the the video where Daniel at Djslb Vapes talks about the DNA boards failing as well?

I don't know if they are totally moving away from the DNA. I'm just quoting what the reviewers said on the show and the reasons THEY gave for it.

Lots of people have had a Yihi board fail. You just don't see much said about the Mini on this forum one way or the other (check the ECF threads and you will see). Heck, iirc Busardo had one bite the dust in the middle of a review. I'm not saying they are bad boards/mods at all. What I am saying is there is no such thing as a perfect board with 0% failure rate. The thing I would like to see released by companies is the % of boards that fail. We all know there is no such thing as perfection. At least we all should!

    Cheers,
    Steve

I've said through out this whole post that those were not my words they were the words of the reviewers. In fact at the end of my last sentence where I bring it up I say don't kill the messenger. Mike Vapes says later on in the same video that the Wismec board is a good board and he thinks it's a good move. Again, for the sake of clarity I did not say it the reviewers said it. You can try to pin it on me all you want. I'm not biting. I love my DNA'S, as well as my YiHi and FSK mods. If a reviewer reports that a company is moving away from a board and you don't agree or you think you have more inside knowledge than the reviewers then take it up with them.
