Neither regulated mods nor mechs maintain a constant current draw on the batteries. Regulated mods cause current to increase as cells drop voltage and mechs cause current to drop as voltage drops. Regulated mods don't let the cells go below 3 volts. Usually the cutoff is higher. Your test conditions don't come close to replicating the conditions that exist when we use these batteries so your conclusions should be taken with a grain of salt.

In which case testing for regulated mods is mute/moot. His test do show whether or not the manufacturer is lying about specs, and whether or not the cell is suitable for a mech. If it's good enough for a high amp draw mech mod, then it's good enough for a regulated mod.

Moot.

I'm not saying his tests don't provide valuable info, just that saying something like a vtc4 can't handle 30 amps of continuous discharge isn't exactly true for our purposes since they don't start to overheat at that discharge level until they're being taxed that hard while under 3v. Reg's don't take them that low and if a mech pulls 30 amps at full charge, the fixed resistance causes the amp draw to immediately start dropping as voltage drops. So by the time they get to 3v they're way under 30 amps of discharge. His tests also don't take into account a battery being encased in a metal tube with an attached heating element. I consider his ratings to be good guidelines, but I also reserve the right to use my brain and include the specific conditions that exist when I use these batteries in my decisions about how I use them.

Thanks for the correction moot. He rates a vtc4 at 23A since they get too hot at 25A CDR. He's not telling anyone how to use them, simply testing and publishing the data, manufacturer's or re-wrapper's claim. Good guidelines for sure, but everyone must use common sense. He was instrumental busting efest using 10A LG MJ1 cells with the 35A rating on the wrapper and causing efest to change their misleading labels with more accurate ratings.

Area for discussion of test results. Trying to keep the other test thread clean.
Thanks.
