First dog I got with the wife (before we married) was this tiny little puppy with off coloured paws. She didn't want a dog as she hadn't grown up with them. He grew into a 50 something Kg Pure Bred male shepherd with real attitude. Lovely dogs but a hell of a lot more work and you have to be so consistant and hard on them sometimes. Oh and I'm keeping this big baby.View attachment 63239
This one has proven to be........ a bit of work. Yep

They are but if you get it right they are great. I wanted a dog that would look after the missus when I was away on training etc. He was so loyal to her. It was funny when she was pregnant as he wouldn't let her out of his sight, even down to opening doors to follow her.

LOL mine does that when I'm in the bathroom. She's definitely protective. She's also trying to be the alpha chick of the household.

Yep and unfortunately that's what ya gotta step on every time. Trick I got shown by the cop who bred mine. Grab the fur on either side of jaw, twist and hold her down. she will growl etc when she submits let her and then do it again straight away. I'm the boss and I can do this everytime. She WONT like it and it doesn't hurt her.

I'll keep this in mind. Her dad used to do this, but I didn't realize how he grabbed her and he's not here, lol.

Thank you!

That makes it even easier as she will understand what going on. She is most certainly NOT a dumb dog and that half the problem with Shepherds, they are not a good starter dog.

Also you can't give up and let her away with shit. Ever. Look for clubs in you area they can and will help. You might be surprised how fast she responds

Yeah, he had a TON of experience with Shepherds. I had some experience with Goldens and Standard Poodles, but not a lot. I'm an animal lover, but have always had cats. So...

I love her to pieces, but she's quite testing me lately. And she's definitely a smart girl. Distractions are the issue I'm dealing with right now. Typically when we're outside, things are great! We play, toss kongs, play soccer... SQUIRREL. or NEIGHBOR! Both, of which she develops her own agenda. On walks, she's WONDERFUL. It's play time and potty time LATELY, that are giving me fits. Inside, she's a good girl.

She didn't do this with him, really. She'd try.

ETA: @Whiskey Ty so much for the Jolly Ball tip, and Marley thanks you as well she loves hers. Never seen her pay so much attention to one toy, although at first she shook it and it hit her in the face which confused her. She has since figured out how to enjoy it. :)
