Hello all my new friends!

Hi, my name is Rebecca and I live in Central California. I am a civil engineer and I love my job. I was a smoker for 28 years, but kind of a strange one.. a pack of cigs would last me 3 weeks. Regardless, I could not quit no matter how hard I tried. I found vaping about 3 years ago and I enjoy it immensely. As a neurotic engineer I like to tinker with things and have recently started playing with RDAs and RTAs. I still need advice though from those who also like to build. I joined because I need help and I think this is probably the best forum for it. DIY is new to me and I am finding most of my mixes blah. I have just a simple request to start, can anyone point me towards the right thread? I admit this is the first forum I have ever joined and I hope I am not being improper in any way. I am excited to meet folks online, recently divorced after 28 years of marriage . All the success professionally , divorce makes you feel like such a failure. Ignore my Debbie Downer routine.... I am happy to be here,

Hi and welcome to VU! I can second the statement that this is a great place to learn to build and to mix your own e-liquid. My vaping has changed enormously since I've been here.

The "Daily Mixing Thread" (in the DIY sub-forum) is not as active as it once was, but if you have questions and post there, it will rouse the troops and you'll get some answers. We always love to have new folks participate in that thread.

Welcome to the VU, Rebecca. You'll find friends and great info in this forum.

I gave away my coil making supplies after they sat unused for five years. I was afraid I would blow up my apartment, so I gave up. As an engineer, you'll probably be very handy at it.

Thanks Bliss Doubt.. While building coils came easy, being new to vaping the learning curve at how coil placement in each individual rda/rta has been problematic. I learned one size does not fit all LOL. My DIY venture though will probably be a different experience... Well, if you listen to my kids talk about the chicken balls I use to make... I am a terrible cook.

Welcome to VU!

I'm in central CA as well. The links for DIY e-juice and building coils are a good place to start. Lots of good folks here to help you out. If this shaky handed, half-blind, cranky old fart can build coils and mix juice you can too.

Thanks Brian .. do I need a password for this dark underground you mention? It sounds like my kind of place!

Rebecca
I think he was joking about VU being the dark underground... Nothing dark here...

The hardest part of DIY is fitting a stash of nic base in the freezer. The mixing itself is easy when you start with simple, single-flavor mixes. That's where I'm at now. For more complicated stuff, there's plenty of advice here and e-liquid-recipes.com can be helpful.

Ciao lovely Rebecca!!! I come to visit you here! <3 Was nice for you to visit my thread. Maybe someday we meet over caffè and vapes when I in Miami, si. For today with this covid every place I stay in Italia. Soon I leave to mio famiglia villa in Sicilia for winter months. Is very pretty there, Si.

C U, bye bye!!! <3<3<3

I will try the single-flavor route as you suggest. My flavors should arrive this week and hopefully the nicotine I ordered will also.

Bellissima! Yes, maybe one day as friends and share stories of our adventures in life, perhaps with a view of the Mediterranean.

I had a friend who recently passed and he always bragged about being from Anbangbang Billabong. Maybe due to my ignorance, but I perceived it as sort of a badge of honor. He was a great guy and could out drink anyone without nay evidence of being impaired. We called him Matty the Damned... a tortured soul of sorts but never one to be taken lightly.

i compare the first people in australia to the first in america, both treated wrong but both unable to improve their country. they were happy as they were. in some ways they found what the present day people cant find, that is peace to just live of the land and be proud.

My guess was castration..
Had that thought regarding my stepdad a few times. He had a lovely excuse, "husbands can't rape wives." Eventually all three of us boys got "out of the house". It was him and mom there alone.

He had doctored for years over stroke, heart issues, possibly some cancer. One morning mom woke and apparently went into his room and found him on the floor. The M.E. wrote it up as natural causes after looking over his medicals.

Us three boys merely shrugged when someone voiced an unspoken thought. "Maybe she killed him, staged it to look natural. She had the skill and knowledge, maybe the "contacts"." None of us boys could say for sure. We all agreed though if that was the case, "oh well, not like he didn't deserve it nor her the peace."

None of us poked at it. We didn't want to know, didn't care. Might suspect but suspecting isn't proof. We let that dog sleep. Not for us to judge.

I had a stepfather too. He was an ass of epic proportions, all of us hated him, except for mom. He treated us like dirt, but he treated my mother like a queen. It was the only reason we put up with him. Our mother was great, made the sacrifice to be with him just to provide a better life for us kids. He became a bully (towards us) when he drank. Retribution is one hell of a payback though, as old step dad learned when my brother was 18. We all got apologies that day...

It sounds like we had similar upbringings...

Sounds about like it.

I left at age 20 for military service. Not that an uncle nick named "Buddy" who had gone through 'Nam as infantry, or a Pap who was in WWII as the same hadn't "brought me up" in it. Learned basic infantry from uncle Buddy as a boy thinking it was kids games.

Then, a day came when they together dropped me off at a "friend's". This friend had been with Delta. He was in a wheelchair in part due to service. Told he would never walk. He taught me there's discipline and abuse, and the vast difference between them.

I, a young snot of a kid, back mouthed him when he asked me to do something. Walk or not he got out his chair and come across the room and kicked the tar out of me. Then, "help me back to the chair, please." "Sir."

Took years and still reflecting on that lesson. He told me it would be that, too. "What did you learn?"

"To not smart mouth you."

"You got more than that. It'll come, now back to, ..."

And so at age 20 I left because my two brothers (half brothers) could still keep a daddy. I never had one to speak of really. Mine just donated sperm and ran. I was an "accident". And an accident by which my mom proved modern medicine wrong. She had been told she would never.

So yeah, call me a mama's boy if you want. *chuckles* Quite true but will tell you I know my mom got shinier brass balls than most admirals, bigger ones too. *chuckles*

Can always recall her "loving" pep talks with us. "Get up boy, you ain't hurt!" We could have bones protruding but up we got and went on. Yes, she tended us and had us looked after if need were dire. Still that was her way of keeping us from seizing up in terror, pain.

We've figured on her tombstone we're putting an expression she used once. She had a panic attack and went to hospital in squad. The guy in back with her told us what she said all the way up. "I ain't got time for this shit." Everyone including her thought heart attack until it was ruled out.

So yeah, I'm a mama's boy. All six foot and three hundred pounds of me. *sighs* If I could keep the damn weight off I'd be lolly right as rain. Life though, ... *sigh*

Then again, reckon that's fair size for a Sasquatch. *chuckles*
