SILVERPLAY MODIFICATION THREAD

Good day fellow vapers! So, I figured I'd start this section to see how many others are modifying their Silverplay RTAs. Works fine as is, but the one thing that always bugged me about its is the lack of ability to see how much juice I'm putting in there. With a few spare Kayfun parts (and I've seen others do this), I am able to both change the look and feel of my Silverplay.

Two things I've tried so far are:

-Kayfun Bell Cap
-Kayfun Quartz Tank Kit

Both look pretty good (will post pictures when I can), however, I've been having a minor leaking issue. I'm sure its nothing a change in the O-rings can't fix, but please, feel free to share how you're modding your Silverplay and please feel free to share other things like coil builds, wicking techniques, etc. Happy Vaping!

I've tried both the M-Tank Full Size and the Quartz Tank Kit with stock SP chimney. They were not a great fit, in fact, I cracked the quartz with-in an hour of setting it up. They both did "work". I really wish they would release a larger clear tank (5-6ml?) and extended 6mm chimney.

My only issue so far is the ungodly leaking... thing leaks like a sieve. beefier O-rings are all I can think of to remedy the situation, but as of yet, I havn't gotten around to fitting some. again, amazing flavor, just can't get the leaks to stop.

I'm curious about what can be done with the Silverplay too. Do you know the spec on the chamber/base threads? Or could you measure it? I wonder what it might be compatible with. Thanks.

BTW, if you are willing to get a bit crafty, this Kayfun extended chimney could be a place to start. Still available here and there. The extended tank less so, but that could be rigged up a few different ways.

On the other hand, Silverplay might well have to offer a bigger tank/chimney soon, since Goblin already includes both big and small in the kit.

I don't have the tools here to measure the threads. I do know the threads on the outer chamber where it screws into the base are the same threading as the kayfun/russian though.

Mine does not have bad leaking issues. When I remove it from my mod, there is usually some moisture under it, but not much.

@Sully are you just talking about a stock setup Silverplay? because in it's stock configuration, I have had no issues other than not being able to see how much juice is in there. How do you have yours set up?

Yeah, I'm stock. I didn't really like the two other setups I tried. The other thing I don't like is that when I'm filling it, the juice sometimes get's 'stuck' in the bottom portion of the tank and starts pushing into the deck and out of the mouthpiece before the damn things is 1/2 full.

@TheWestPole Unfortunately my friend, I do not know, nor do I have the means to measure. I'm one of those dudes just eyeballing things and hoping they stick. Wish I were able to be of more help! OH, and keep the pics coming guys!

i haven't taken any measurements, however i can confirm that the orchid chimney fits.

i'm currently using my 2 piece avid vaper chimney w/a kayfun pmma tank on mine.

Thanks. That's a 14mm x .5 thread FWIW. I do think this one and the Avid Vaper you have are smart to step down to Kayfun chimney thread. More options. You still using your Orchids?

after the goblin & silverplay arrived, i rarely use my orchids.. i still have a few built out that i use from time to time, but they mostly sit on my coffee table collecting dust..

Greener pastures. :-/ They are both improvements on the stock Orchid.

If I thought I would use the AFC, I would definitely choose Goblin or Silverplay. But I always vape with the airflow wide open. That limits the advantages of those attys over the stock Orchid to their stock air hole size and and juice channels.

My main RTA is still Orchid, though most are modified. My favorites have external juice flow control (JFC) and wide chimneys--plus maxed out air holes of course. Goblin or Silverplay would require the same amount of work to modify this way, and Silverplay would be offer serious limitations to how the juice channels would work with JFC.

So Orchid still gives provides me a better foundation for modification, particularly when you take low price and the ability to buy all the components separately into consideration. I also hate chasing every minor improvement in new attys when I can make those improvements and more myself.

Keeping an open mind though, while tinkering my way to RTA nirvana. :D

But that's just me.

I'm curious. With your modified Orchids, were you able to open up the airflow and juice flow enough to vape at 100-150 watts? The SilverPlay has more airflow than a plumeveil and the goblin is right behind it. SilverPlay (when built and wicked properly) can rip at 120 watts or so right out of the box. I'm very curious if there is a way to make an Orchid perform this well or better.

Can't say. I'm on mechs for these.

But you can certainly make the Orchid perform as well or better, because the deck layout and space limitations are so similar. The rest is just a matter of coil and wick.

Maxed airflow plus wide 8-11mm ID chimneys changes the characteristics though. My priority these days is taste above all, which the JFC allows you to dial in. With that much air, you do need a lot of juice loaded up for each hit. So far, 3.2mm .4 ohm coils with big fluffy wicks have working best for me. Awesome airflow and taste with vapor qualities very dripper-like: intensity, sharpness, heat, etc. Juice channels are currently 3 x 4+ mm measured at deck level. They keep the wicks full. No dry hits, no gurgling.

That's using the 8mm ID chimneys seen in the OM thread. I'm stepping up to 11mm now, which might change the balance. We'll see.

So, I really want a silverplay!!!! badly, vapordna is out of stock, any idea who else might carry them?

so I finally figured out why I was flooding my silverplay...changed how I wick it; I now wick directly into the channel. Running it at anywhere from 35-45 watts with no leaks, no dry hits. AMAZING flavor. I'll try to get pictures of the wick job once I get through this tank (shouldn't take me long as this thing is THIRSTY!), will post soon. Lovin it!

I just changed my wicking method for the silverplay because when I would chain vape I would occasionally get a dry hit. I tried the pancake method and my tank has been leaking like a sieve, no dry hit at all though. But I need to try another way again. I use max vg juices and build with 24g so I need it to keep up with the heat. I will try maybe trimming the wicking and leave just a tiny amount in the channels. I'll take picks

Silverplay clone just dropped on fastech for $13 for those who want a new toy to futz with or just cant get a hold of an original. Only thing is, its a 15 day to ship pre-order 8( so around 30-45 days to get to you

Yes, and the photos are of the authentic, so they don't even have samples yet. Gonna wait a bit until I can see pics of the clone. No rush.

I find it awkward that I've been waiting for the new batch to release in '2 weeks' about the same time the FT ones ship...coincidence?

So, as promised. I have pictures of how I have my Silverplay wicked currently. Turns out the leaking was MOSTLY due to me taking to many primer pulls and drawing juice directly into the airflow. By putting wick directly into the channels (on the silverplay they are wide enough, at least in my opinion that this isn't a problem blocking juice flow), it controls the juice flow pretty well and even whilst chain vaping I have yet to reach a dry hit. Vapor production is amazing and flavor is EQUALLY amazing. I've been playing with several kayfun parts iterations and so far this is the one I like best (aesthetically) . the Kayfun bellcap style is my best flavor hitter due in part I'm sure to the shortened chimney, but aesthetically isn't my style. Hope this helps some folks in their Silverplay modding endeavors. VAPE ON!

So now that the silverplay has been cloned on fasttech, looks like this thread might start getting busy.... ;)

I'll add some content when I get my FT clone. I really wanted to order from vaporDNA, but a $13 clone wins when your out of stock.

I like the copper band look, I'm hoping the clone come with this tank.

The clone isn't in stock for another 11-13 days I think? Then 14 days to get here, the vapordna will have it to you quicker still

I know, I just couldn't resist the $13 price. Hopefully someone will post a comparison, if the authentic is significantly better, I'll order one..

Well, I could be wrong but I think that copper band is part of a kayfun topcap by science of vapimg.

@f1r3b1rd youre correct. Anothe VU member owns that on and everything about it is kayfun save the barrel and the deck. Nice build I must say, though; its what inspired me to branch out into frankensteining mine with kayfun and orchid parts.

That's the biggest reason, I want it. I normally use an erl and/or aquav2 but I have a mountain of kf4 parts and accessories from steam turners and Chris Munn, only I'm not a huge fame of the kf4, even with the 4s kit.
Hopefully vaporDna launches the next batch soon.

I'm curious about the KF4 setup too...do we know what chimney is used? If it's not the SP chimney, do we know what the internal diameter of it is?

it's using the kf v4 chimney aka evaporation chamber, that will require you use a kayfun style tank (bellcap or pmma) due to the decreased chimney diameter (an orchid tank should work also). kf v4 tank should work as well

*i have updated my previous post w/links to the various combinations i'm running on my silverplay & can confirm work - http://vapingunderground.com/threads/silverplay-modification-thread.59172/#post-363890

Thanks. I'm not much interested in options for the SP that reduce the airflow. Perhaps this setup isn't for me...lol

np, i would say don't knock it until you try it.. the smaller diameter chimney didn't really seem to decrease airflow noticeably to me.
