Full Disclosure:
Let’s get all the disclosures out of the way. This tank was sent to me from Smoant specifically for the purposes of this review. This will not in any way, shape, or form cause me to give this tank a favorable review or change my opinion in any way.
First Impression Out Of The Box:
Nice looking RDTA. Seems typical of most RDTA’s. Kind of a flat top cap. Side airflow with a side fill port. Little too much branding on this one for my taste but lets see how she vapes.
What’s In The box:
In the box you will get a fully assembled RDTA, spare glass, spare post screws, spare o'rings, and a blue flathead screwdriver. There is also a quality control card as well as a card that shows how the RDTA breaks down.
From Top To Bottom:
The Delrin drip tip is not 510 compatible, it is a proprietary drip tip. It has a nice wide bore to it and it is very comfortable. It’s also tall enough so you do not burn your lips while chain vaping. The top cap is made out of a hard food grade plastic. It has some thick knurling on it that provides a great grip when adjusting the airflow on it. There are two kinds of airflow slots on the top cap. It has a wide open slot that can be tapered down to your liking. It also has two air holes that will provide you with a tight draw, especially for an RDTA.
The sleeve is made out of stainless steel and has a cutout on each side for airflow. The sleeve also has some branding on it that I am not crazy about. On one side in big block letters it says Smoant Battlestar RDTA and on the other side there is a skull. I could have dealt with one or the other but both of them just seems a little gaudy in my opinion.
The mid section is threaded onto the deck and to be honest it's just the worst part of the tank. The threading could be better and the o'ring that seals it up against the base is just a real pain in the ass. The fill port is a side fill and it's located on the midsection piece. Two o'rings run along the top and bottom of the midsection to secure the sleeve to it.
Next is the glass tank section that is secured via an o'ring and the 510 pin. The tank holds 4.5 mls of juice. The 510 is gold plated and adjustable. The threading on the 510 is smooth and sits flush on all of my mods.
The Deck:
The deck has 17.5 mm of usable, buildable, space. It has a velocity styled deck with side mounted flat head post screws. This deck will accommodate nice size coils but huge, exotic, coils with flat wide leads may be a problem because the terminals are a decent size but they are not what I would call huge. I had no problem getting a pair of 3mm SS claptons in there but something like a Juggernaut coil may not fit. The deck is made out of SS and has wide wicking slots as well as a peek insulator
Building And Wicking:
Building and wicking is typical RDTA. Nothing really new or innovative here. Mount your coils, wick them up and put them in the channels. The nice thing about this RDTA is you really don’t have to remove the midsection to rewick. Of course in order for it wick efficiently this is one of those tanks that is dependent on the “Genny Tilt”. I have run this tank in power mode and it does wick very efficiently with no dry hits. This is a dual coil tank and there is no option to run it in single coil mode.
But Deuces, How Does She Vape:
The Battlestar RDTA vapes exactly like it should, like a typical RDTA. It's a cloud monster and it produces really good flavor. The thing that separates the Battlestar from the rest of the crowd is the airflow. The adjustment with the two holes in it is just fantastic and while it is a tight draw for an RDTA it does increase the flavor exponentially. In that mode I do decrease my wattage just a bit and enjoy the flavor. If you are a Smoant fan what more can you really ask for?
Conclusion:
This is a really good RDTA that has no problem competing with all of the rest of them. Performance wise it can hold its own with all of the RDTA’s on the market today. A nice bonus is just like the Battlestar RTA the RDTA is also available in all of the colors that the Battlestar mod comes in. So you if you are into the matchy, matchy stuff and own a Battlestar mod you'll love the Battlestar RDTA. This RDTA is a nice solid performer and it is DeucesJack approved.
