Hi Jimi. Went for a fish and was an great day out. We went to a lake about a half hour from our place. Tried one spot then moved to an area near a camp ground. Was casting and going this ones for me, this ones for Jimi, this ones for me and so on. Ended up with a group of people, about 8 of them, up from Melbourne for a getaway weekend after lockdown watching me fish. Nice people and as I was telling them about the fish there I hooked up good. :D
Great fight it put up too, some good screamer runs. They were all wrapped to watch it happen! Finally got it in the net and a really nice native Aussie Golden Perch (Yellowbelly), bang on 3.5 lb. Took some photos and explained about it to them.
Great fish the Yellas. They grow up to 15lb but that size are too fatty. They store fat for lean drought times in our harsh summer environments. Up to 5 lb they are the best eating. This one was smack bang on in the good eating size. :)
Top day out.

Wow, good catch:cool:, glad I got to see the Aussie Golden Perch. Thanks for posting a picture my friend. Now I want to go sneak in where I fish, wish they would open it up, now I really have the itch to go.:)
Thanks. I have been having some good success this year using a lure made by Yumm. Little soft plastic. Its the glow version of the Money Minnow which I dip in flouro pink Dip n Glo. Its garlic scented. If you ever get that stuff dont open it in the house, if you spill it you will be stuck with the smell for ages.

I may have to get a little bigger blocks of wood but I'm sure it's possible. Practice on basswood blocks right now but have plans to move to tree limbs and logs

You watched something about Easter Island lately? :giggle:
I really want to do tiki masks and saw these on Pinterest and SpongeBob. Squid wards house is a head. Just visualized the cuts in my head and figured I've give it a shot. Feel like I'm slacking if I don't do at least 5 projects a week

I was just kidding. I love your pieces and I’m impressed that you do so many! It was just a departure from Norse looking elves.

Yeah, It was fun and enjoyable while it lasted. Never know what the future will bring.

Back in 2009, the recession was kicking everybody's ass and my husband was on short hours; he had to use his "star notes" from his coin/currency collection, to pay the electric bill so they didn't shut it off. Like, $180 or something; he had a star note of every currency, and used them all.

When I switched to vaping, we suddenly had so much more money, I told him I wanted him to take up his coin collecting hobby again, since he was the one that spent all that money to buy my cigarettes. So he's got a really nice collection again... but still hasn't been able to collect more than a $1 and $5 star note bills.

That’s a nice fish, what’s it taste like? I love perch from the US, they are easily my favorite freshwater fish to eat. Have you tried perch from the US to compare the two? If so which is better?
I’m gonna google search to see what a 15lb’er looks like. Gotta be shaped almost circular.

Hi. Yeah they look weird when they get big. I cut two fillets off that one. Still have one in the freezer. Some complain about how they taste but they are beautiful if you cook them right. They are the only fish I know that you cook like you want to incinerate it. They have a high fat content and if you cook them gentle like others they taste ordinary. Cooking whole is not the best. But filleted and cooked at real high heat and they are surprisingly good. You look and think nope it aint done yet, a trout at the same heat and time would be shrivelled and dry. :D
Never had any fish from the US. Wish we had some of them here though to catch.
This is what the biggest I got looked like, its not mine but exactly how it looked. Ugly comes to mind.

Yea that’s what I figured it would look like. Like it has elephantiasis of the forehead. Similar to a big ass bluegill here, our bluegills are just much smaller, same weird tiny head, giant body though.
Here a pic of the world record sunfish 5 pound 12.8 ounce

I spent about 20 years like that. Then wound up moving somewhere that it was difficult to fish.
Electronics has been a hobby since low teens though.

Decided to have several hours out today in the bush. Staying away from people for a couple of weeks after my trip the other day just in case.
Was nice, but cold, just 9c today here.
Was really surprised to see a Stumpy Tail Lizard out. Was just not right for the temp and time of year. But not far from it I saw an Echidna had dug up around a tree stump looking for grubs or termites which they eat. It had for sure disturbed the Stumpy in hibernation and why it was out. Poor little thing. Id say was just a newbie from last spring as it was just 6 inches long max. Took a couple of pictures then got some tree bark, leaves and other things to cover it in hope it survives. It'll be a 50/50 it does but picking it up and doing anything would be its death as it would go in shock and die for sure.
Found some little bits of gold, lucky it wasn't windy or they'd have blown away :giggle:
Was nice to get out though and here is hoping Baby Stumpy makes it!
The specks.

Nice find, how much $$ is that much gold worth? You ever run into venomous snakes out in the bush? Where I live (northern Illinois) there isn’t really any venomous snakes, or anything venomous really. Just going out into the wilderness knowing all the creatures that can kill me sorta freaks me the F out. I’d be alright until I had to go through any thick brush. I’d just be worried for myself and more so for my dog, they wanna get into the thick stuff sniffing around and I’d be terrified they’d get popped on the nose with two fangs.

Hi mate. That was not a great deal but fun to find and having said that appreciate every single little bit I get taking nothing for granted. Around $40 worth. I used to do it pretty serious when I worked at a detector shop years ago and did some field testing of gear when there but these days after a failed knee op and damaged ankle from an bad mishap just go as a hobby now. I used to hike for miles hunting out of the way places well off the dirt tracks but alas thats over. Still, im happy to plod around and know enough places from my earlier years to have some good accessible fun in like that above. There are lots of venomous snakes where we live. They at least twice a year come in our back yard. Brown Snakes, King Brown's, highly venomous. We get others like Black Snakes, Copperhead and Tigers but the Browns are the worst.
My last dog, a Staffy fought one in the yard and got bit about 3 times on the face. Very quick split second hits but within minutes he was convulsing and foaming at the mouth. Luckily our neighbour reacted like lightening getting his car and drove him and the misses to the vet. I wasnt home but she saw the whole thing. Was only 5 mins away but they just made it. A ten minute drive and he would have been dead. It as only a 3 footer but with browns the size does not matter. They are fearless those things and send shivers up my spine.
I was detecting several years ago in a place called Waanyarra. Was getting some bits and my mind was off the surrounds because of that and focusing on the gold. I looked down and froze with every hair on my body just about standing on end. A 7 foot Brown. His head had just started to cross my boot and kept going and I swear an eye was looking up at me as it did. I stood like a statue mid step as its entire length went over my boot. I reckon I shivered and shook my head as I did for a minute after it passed over.
Once as a kid fishing a mate stepped on one and it turned, about a 4 footer but from birth they carry the same venom as an adult, and hit my gumboot twice. I ran like an Olympian I reckon for a kilometer yelling Snake Snake Snake :giggle:
Another, one came in the yard. My dog went for it and I dived grabbing his back legs just as he got the tip if its, maybe 5 foot, tail. I squeezed his legs to make him let go and as he did the brown turned and stopped and looked at us both, me laying flat on the ground holding my dog and the snake just eyeballing us before it slithered off under the fence.
I respect them, dont kill them as I go into their domain. But if they come into mine its goodnight snake.
Yeah, lots where we live.
And actually, very sad this one. I lived in Queensland for a couple of years on the Central Coast. I had a very very good friend there who worked for the power company there. Him and the crew were doing maintenance and he just walked off the side of the road to check a pole. This was in Yeppoon. 5 minutes go by and the others yell out "hey Andrew, you ok?" No reply. Few minutes later they go and check and Andrew was laying there dead. A Taipan, the most evil fearless snake on planet earth, had hit his leg and bit a major artery. They said he probably died within a minute of the bite. He was one of the nicest most humble person I have ever known. I couldn't believe it when I heard of it. Great guy, everybody loved him. :(

Wow those are some crazy stories. I’ve watched lots on tv about your snakes and have seen the brown snake. If there was a venomous snake in my area it would be a rattlesnake. One type was found a little south of me years ago but I’m a little too far north. With a rattlesnake at least they can warn you that they are near. The taipan is crazy, I’m sorry it killed your friend, those things carry some crazy venom. I’m grateful I don’t have to worry about all them nasty creatures here.

You've got to admire Australia. Their entire Foreign Policy is based on beating up on the islanders next to them in every sport possible, while their Domestic Policy is based on "How many ways can we die a horrible and gruesome death?"

Hmm, I’ve been reading a LOT. Plus, I have friends that upload movies and have live chat at YT. So, it’s very fun.

Other than that, I’m really boring. Oh, and I take walks. Lol

Its like there is something waiting to bite us or sting us around every corner at times. :giggle:
My personal dislike are our venomous ants, always on gaurd for those when out in the bush. They can ruin your day in an instant. Unfortunately very common in our neck of the woods.

I can't imagine what's it like. I saw a show once and it something to the effect of 7 out of the 10 deadliest creatures live in Australia. I was like, WTF? Why live there?

I'm from the NE of the US where it's cold half the year but when I was in the military I was stationed in Texas and Arkansas. We'd go swimming at the huge lake at Greer's Ferry and see Water Moccasins swimming along the top of the water. It would totally creep me out. Now I'm moving to Georgia and it ain't any better.

Yes, but usually not by biting. That just really freaks me out.

If they got tetanus or something from the bite, maybe it’s fatal? But I agree, we’re the only species that kill for sport or out of anger.

Another day away from people in the bush, thankfully its on our doorstep.
Found a couple of nice small bits. The two tiny bits in the picture are not gold. I couldnt make out what they were in the fading light and shade of all the trees. Sometimes get it in ironstone so thought it might be what they were. Not the case, just tiny bits of some old metal. The little ring with the red stone was a cool find. Lost by a liitle kid id say going by its small size. Probably in the 1860s to 1870s of the rush in that area.

A couple of pictures of the area I was in below.20200716_154939(1).jpg

Saw some more Sundew plants so looked for some that had caught insects. Looks like this one has, couple I can make out, not sure what they are though. Very tiny. Stupid me used to think it was water drops on the ends ?
20200716_142625(1).jpg
Three roos in the padock. There was about 30 and just as I was getting ready for the shot another car came and scared them off up the hill.
20200716_161329(1).jpg
This is a 700 yr old River Red Gum. It was used by the local Aboriginals back in the early settler days and earlier than that I imagine as a Maternity Tree. The women would use it to give birth there in its shelter of the hollow. They used trees like this with large hollows to do so.

Nice pics! I never made it to Australia but I did spend a month on South Island during their winter. I always thought of Australia as the same as the US, they're just so damn big it's hard to decide where to go.

Good one. Nothing like living in a country environment. And wow what a change going by those sat pics. Do you hunt of fish?
Growing up in New England I loved fishing, fresh and saltwater. My father and his brothers were serious hunters but he died in a hunting accident when I was 12 so I never wanted to do it. I'll be taking my boys fishing for sure. They need to learn how beautiful and peaceful it is in the woods. We'll be doing lots of hiking as well.

Also, I'll be exercising my 2nd Amendment rights as well. My boys will learn how to shoot and protect others. Thank God Georgia isn't a fucked up blue state like Massachusetts.
