Morning.
We're doing good here, not liking the freezing nights. It's part of winter but I don't have to like it. Pretty quiet, I do like that! Jessie has taken over Hubby's heating pad at night, now she reluctantly will share it with him. She has gained a few Covid pounds, I'm ordering some new toys to get her jumping around more. Maybe I should get a few for myself.....

Stay safe and healthy

Not much going on, sports are meh right now. Milly's been into watching birdies/squirrel/fishes and etc on youtube...which helps my sanity. Weather is nice but it's gonna get COLD this weekend...into the teens for low temps. Brrrr...

ATM, just chilling (ha!) with a vape and a carafe full of lovely French Press coffee.

Cheers! :coffee2:

Speaking of the BRRRRRRRRR.....Snow is coming back too. I fear it's gonna be a late winter this year, again. NO sign of my energy assistance funds either. I'm not alone there...many who applied back in Oct., had their phone appointments and sent in the signed follow-up paperwork haven't seen nada yet.

Screenshot from 2021-01-19 14-29-59.png

Arrgh. I will need to do the Rosauers/Thrift Store bus trip before the damn snow hits. Too miserable in that weather for lugging groceries and stuff around if I don't have to.

Great news for us - son has been working in the Saudi Arabia oil fields for quite awhile. We have been worrying about all the unrest there, Covid, etc. He called last night and he isn't going back!!!!!!! Yay!! Jessie ran for the bedroom when we were dancing around and laughing. We slept so well last night.

Would it work if you just worry the hell out of the energy assistance people? Or would that just make things worse?

Nah, I'd already called them and left a message, that they called back and basically said they had my info, that it's at least 4-8weeks from the appointment date, and they didn't need anything more from me at this time. The offices are all closed and SNAP staff are working from home...so GLWT.

He remained scared of it, until cards came out. Then it was a game of keepings off while trying to talk on the phone
:) Parrots are amazing aren't they. Their intelligence amazes me. We had a Cockatoo when I was a kid. Then it was 60 yrs old! My grandmother was given it to her as a kid. She died. I loved it and its name was.... Wait for it....Cocky...
Anyway. I was the only one who bothered to look after it, talk to it or feed it regardless of 4 other siblings. In the end, and dont ask me how it came to my head, I rang from an old black dial up pay phone box, red box black phone, the Melbourne Zoo. I got to talk to the bird keepers! I swear a true story, in the late 70s. I asked "I have an old cockatoo that is lonely, could you please take it and let it live with the others?" They at the time had a Cockatoo aviary that held about 50 easy back then. When I told my Mum & Dad they thought I was joking. But I got them to ring the Zoo on our home Phone. The Zoo said yes we will be happy to take him. So the next Saturday we did. I watched Cocky get let into the enclosure with all the others! It was awesome even as a kid. Instantly he was at home, the others instantly accepted him. We went back a number of times in the following months and id say "hey cocky how you going?" Just like id done for years, and he'd come to me and say like he always did "and how you going......(my name)"
Eventually he stopped and but I didn't care, I still recognised him. My sister's hated it, but they never fed him or bothered to look at him. I thought him being there was awesome and always have.
Oh and hey. Just in case its taken wrong. I dont dislike parrots kept as pets. It was just that ours was totally neglected apart from the limited time I could give ours. ?

Perfect end of the day.
Misses crashed out, went to sleep early.
So I sat out on the balcony watching the sun set, having a Chocolate Candy vape with my headphones on, relaxing in the outdoor relax chair. Listening to Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon followed by Wish You Were Here. Half moon behind me and watched the Milky Way come in up over me. Absolutely awesome. Wish my phone could have the ability to capture the moon and stars buy it cant. But it was amazing. No insects, or mozzies, watched bats fly around and a few shooting stars.
Bliss.

So, I've had a fun time getting that Stanley Lid/Cup things....all because they and/or Stamps.com forgot to include my Apt number. I used Paypal, so I know they got the address, it's right on the PP invoice I got.

This happened:

Snap1238.jpg

I did catch it on that day but at 4pm when the USPS is closed.
I called the local sorting center yesterday and the guy there was very helpful...but couldn't find the package. Seems the regular carrier who knows me was off that day and the temp didn't know where I lived. (the big MDU box only has apt. numbers on it) So, it got bounced.

Called the supplier first thing this morning...long distance to PA... But, we got it sorted and now they have the FULL address and will re-send it no charge. Eeesh!

Also, it is cold out..it was 18F or 14F at like 6am with windchill. Milly-kitteh slept under the covers with me all night.

Today, she's been yowling at me 'cuz she wants to sit in the windowsill and look out like usual, but it's too cold and she's mad...poor kitty.

We decided to just not go anywhere (again) today. One rx is ready but there is another one due, so we'll wait. Don't need food or cat stuff, so we'll stay here and be warm. I have some vape chores to do. Jessie is out supervising Hubby and watching for intruders.

I hear ya, I want to hit up the store before the snow hits and get supplies for the big football weekend, but it's fargin' cold out there. Walking to the bus, waiting for the bus, walking to the store, then the reverse of all that...just for like 5-6 items.

It will be warmer next week but more snow/rain mix and likelyhood of slush and crap.

Snap1239.jpg

I guess I'll have to go today...the cold I can take, slush and rain/snow...I'd rather not do while carrying bags of groceries.

Besides, Milly is like, you do whatever, I'm comfy here....

I did the deed. I was properly attired and it went quite well.

IMG_20210122_120851744.jpg

About $67 in food there...they'd "packed" it into like 7 bags...egads.
I re-packed it into four that I could carry.

IMG_20210122_120924742.jpg

And, the lovely view from the bustop.

IMG_20210122_120911924.jpg

Noms for me and the kitteh. :)

That big thing of misc. pork chops is perfect for Milly food and was $1.99/lb.
Her Greenie treats, I got for $3.99...that same big box at Peto is like $15.
Cage-free brown eggs...$2.00.
Beautiful and freakin' HUGE white mushrooms...much pizzas and brekkies.
A big pack of Provolone slices were only $6...not terrible.
A nice find; Free-range ground Lamb from AU for dirt cheap. Yummmmy.
Also got breads, salad stuff, and other misc. stuff not meriting mention.

IMG_20210122_123945151.jpg

I'm glad I went today and got it done. Milly was a good girlcat and didn't trash the joint either. :D

Just got an insight into Milly's past and psyche....

Played this:

Man I miss those days....

Instantly, she raised her head up from napping, she went all tensed up. and her tail went all twitchy...she knows that song. Hmm.

So, I played it again...this time while next to her, talking to her, holding and petting her. And at first she resisted, but eventually she calmed down, licked my hand and went to sleep. Small battles, for the soul of a kitteh. =)

Humane Society thought she was evil, gave up on her and just wanted her gone, I ain't gonna.

Ugh, yesterday was Friday. It was rough. Had a second day of a full 8 hour shift doing custodian work.

Made rough because there's a completely different timeline of stuff to do considering covid. So all the "management" types are left going "huh". On top of that I was put to fill in for someone I had not "shadowed". Which means followed around to learn the routine.

Monday all I had was an 8 hour shift that entailed wiping bathrooms down 3 times a day. This took me an hour to do the first time and then a half hour each time. I was not going so fast the quality waned. I did well at it, just faster than someone else.

So yesterday was fun. (Yep, definitely sarcasm there.) I had to get ready to do three lunches for elementary grade kids. I was told I needed to take out trash, sweep the floors in between each lunch. I had 5 minutes between to do that. Yay!

Lo and behold comes the music teacher. She starts fussing about the custodian closet having water coming out of it. I turn and check the sink, not it. Look over and see its the ice machine leaking. Yeah, they put the ice machine in the custodian closet, lovely idea.

So as I'm set up to go full bore on the lunches, I need to stop and deal with this teacher. "Pull all the stuff out." So apparently they were to have had someone fix that issue. As custodian she is trying to make it my issue. It was not my issue, at least not on a day I was dumped into the deep end.

I could not see a quick fix. So a bunch of them tossed towels on the floor to keep the water in. They complained then the closet on the other side was probably flooded too. All of this was not my issue. If they had someone come fix it, from the company, they had to call them again.

I was not shirking a job but was clear it was not something I was there to do. I was there to do the cleaning only. Granted the water was a cleaning issue. But it was beyond the scope of what I was meant to do. I have in the past fixed leaking ice machines, it takes a bit though and it would have fully set the whole day off for a double shift. That was not what I was there for as I was only listed for a single.

When I fixed one before it was at a restaurant. I lost capacity to do any other work there that day too. The "girls" had to put my truck up for me. No one really liked that day.

So, I got short circuited. I forgot sweeping between lunches. It got done after last lunch though, broad as long. I had to also wipe down the concrete walls with bleach water each lunch once the kids sat down. Short circuited too until this morning, I recalled I needed to fill out a time sheet. I signed in but of course they need a "time sheet" too.

Will need to swing by the school, or board office and sign one already filled in. It's simple but I ought not forgotten it. It just takes one person "getting in your face" about something unrelated to foul up a day. I had to wait until a different lady come in. The management types had no clue what I was to do and there was no timeline list for it. This lady came in and guided me to what needed done.

So I did what I could best I could, tried to make the best of it. Considering ultimately that's all anyone can do, think I did alright.

Ah, the goodness of it? Well, a full day nets me around $112. So two full days this translates to $224, if I work more next week that adds on. We get paid every opposing two weeks, it's an odd system. Basically end of January gets paid second week of February and so on. Figured out I'm doing around $17.50 hourly, more even than I made in a poultry plant.

Good to see this. :) As a boy I was able to be around my Pawpaw John's dog Rex. Others could not be around Rex. Pawpaw John had taken me and shown me about Rex. Rex didn't like kids because kids had rocked him, beat him with sticks.

One day I was outside at Pawpaw John's. My stepdad come after me to beat me. Rex broke an 1/8 inch linked log chain and come after my stepdad, got between us. Pawpaw had to call him off but wouldn't until his son left.

Pawpaw sent me and Rex out to fetch in a bull then. Mimmi fussed that a bull would tear me up. Pawpaw just chuckled. "Nothing getting by Rex to the boy, mother."

Rex could be evil incarnate if he didn't like you. Sadly I'm also reminded of a time I had to put a dog down that "snapped". It had been a police dog but was retired. The reason it was retired was because it attacked a kid. The police officer who brought the dog by was ready to put it down.

It got out of his car without him knowing. It come at me. I dropped, caught it, brought it down. I felt so sad. Then this officer related what the dog was there for and thanked me for doing what he didn't want to do.

Also remember a cousin getting his butt whopped after I stood behind a wood pile watching him beat my dog. Not sure if me or the dog wanted to tear him up worse. And of course the cousin ran to the house screaming bloody murder, the dog was going to eat him. I come in with the firewood and explained. Butt whooping commenced.

Also reminds me, I need to feed cats here in a little. Ah, ...

The fun thing abut that is my masks ARE the likely the same ones they are wearing. I got a 50-pack of masks for $6 shipped DHL from one of the main PPE suppliers for the National Stockpile and most Gov't stuff.

Medtecs / CoverU out of the Philippines.

Great masks, nice and sturdy and well-made...not that wimpy stuff that falls apart.

Some life-changing news here!
I was just randomly Googling stuff and found that there IS now a NICE laundromat near me!!

Bonus: it's in the same "mall" area as the big Rosauers store I go to, the Thrift store, and the Park 'n Ride where my bus goes. A lot of stores there. A straight shot bus ride from where I live.
And, they make change for bills.

I called today and talked to a really nice young lady working there who was friendly and answered all my questions about the place, prices, and etc. Very different than the nasty people at the other laundry.

Wheeeeeeeeeee! :bliss:

I refuse to use the nasty/dinky coin-op W/D in the building here, they have found bedbugs in there and who the fuck knows who all uses it...no Manager on site.

Nor will I go to the only other laundromat about a mile the other direction as it's a known gang hangout and full of druggies and worse. There was a drive-by there just a week ago and fights are common. No Thanks.

So now, I'll be able to do regular laundry again in a nice and safe area...there is a bank literally next door to them. They even have free wi-fi, cable TV, a breakroom-type area with chairs, and coffee/snacks. :D

Ah looking at mine and they're non-medical from Al-shield. Ah well they're 3 ply and seem sturdy enough.

Excellent! :) Agree, no fun washing in the trash or somewhere you can't trust. Got a laundry here in Ripley but me and wife do as we did today, went to Spencer. Ripley laundry doesn't get clothes clean and leaves them smelling odd. Also there's just an unsettling element about the place.

Mask and Bundling up selfie "photoshoot" from the other day....LOL

P1040831.JPG

Layers FTW.

The sweater is a Pima cotton and Merino wool blend, and the snazzy trousers are vintage woolen from the 90s. I love them...wore those in -50F winchill up in Canada once.

Wore some modern thermal layer 'longjohns" and a Wintersilks thermal undershirt...very thin silk but incredibly warm. Sadly, they aren't made anymore.

Very comfy and warm, yet stylish.

I was warm outside doing the bus/walking/carrying thing, didn't look like a tweaker/transient, and didn't sweat to death in the store either. :)

All of it came from either stuff I had or thrift/discount stores.
Even the black Liz Claiborne viscose scarf from Italy, that I'd found for a dollar at the thrift store.

Ah, a pretty good day today. Milly was a bit crazy for awhile..IDK what she was hearing but she was nuts for half the day. But, she's asleep and it's me time. ;)

Watching some random NCAAM basketball until 7pm when our #1 Gonzaga Bulldogs play.
Wish I could go, it's a home game and the Kennel should be rockin'....if it was a normal year.

And OFC, tomorrow is huge day:

I'm calling it as Green Bay vs KC for the Superbowl....screw Brady. :giggle:

Everything was on sale plus I got a $5 bonus redeemed too. ?
(my AMZ Locker is at my Rite-Aid, so I get a credit for using it....muhaha...)

Don't worry folks, I'm planning on making a DIY smoked sausage and mushroom alfredo pizza later on in the day.

I got some black surgical ones like that too from a decent supplier here. They had the blue, exactly the ones the hospital workers here wear at our hospital, or in black.
Every time I go to the hospital im wearing one yet the same person who checks my id and temperature, every time says "oh you cant just wear a single layer cloth mask" and hands me a blue one. And each and every time I show her its multi layer proper medical type. Each time she says "oh is it? Oh yes it is, thats ok!"
The same person, every single time. Im starting to wonder if she is actually one of the patients in there and not really a nurse! ?

Double irony: I originally posted this as a linked image...it came up as an "X".
Hey at least it gives us time to get a drink and make a snack between posts.
See, theres always a positive in there somewhere! ?
Hey @CaFF posted this hours ago but it didn't get posted. How slooooow is it going!?
Anywho, was supposed to be 40 plus C yesterday, today & today the same. But thankfully we have had some enough cloud cover to stop it from that.
Yesterday.....37... Today..37 C.
Today though we had 40 to 50 kph winds...,did hear a fire alert siren but thankfully it stopped after half an hour (see a happy smile here as the site isn't showing one..... Sloooooooooooow as wont wait....)
Stay well Caff..
Edit...my misses said "its raining".
I said "yeah good try". But it is, lightly. Still 37c so light it doesn't matter.
Wind is still easy 30 to 40 Kph. I Spent hours today keeping my fishing worms alive with frozen water bottles. I think they got through it all thumbs up. Very happy as the first buy colony cost a bit, but got info on the web to keep them. Now even in high crazy temps they per the way to keep them are thriving! Super crazy happy with the recipe to do so I actually got from the US. My European Crawlers are going nuts here even in crazy high temps with the info I Googled.

Well, at least now I know what some of my physical issues are in life. :)

I looked at the online version of the medical chart. The kidney doctor on seeing the new ultra sound diagnosed CKD III, which is chronic kidney disease stage three.

What does that mean? It's a middle ground. There is no reversing kidney damage. It can be slowed or halted but it requires a lifestyle change, a few. It also means I can expect roughly an average of 24 more years, barring any other health issues.

Keeping in good spirits about it, I survived pneumonia killing me. I'll survive kidney failure killing me too. Hell yeah! :D:) Death has no sting for me. I was not even supposed to have been born. I've cheated death at least three times, two confirmed and one I probably wished I had died. So yeah, I'm good to go.

Screw death. I don't need it.

*chuckles* Wife mentioned "You cheat death every day, dear." She's right too, I wake to being alive meaning she's not killed me. ;) :)

Presently, that isn't needed. Dialysis though is where your blood is drained out, cleaned and put back in. It is done in a cyclic manner so as to not cause exsanguination. But yeah, it is still pretty rough.

Right now, I need to get more exercise and watch my diet. Need to drop my weight. Talked with my mom this morning. She's beaten colon cancer twice. We agreed we're each fighting. Also going to be each other's diet buddies.

If I could drop 100 lbs it would be a great improvement. For now, I'm focusing on dropping 10. Then, I need to keep it off. And I'll have to remain strict on diet, exercise.

What tears me up in a way, been asking medical health pros, docs, nurses about my kidneys for a year to two years. No one ever bothered checking it out. It was always "it's this, that, something else". Sure, I get "ruling stuff out" to diagnose but I never got the impression that was what was going on. No, more like doctors not wanting to doctor.

Finally one heard me and said "you know, we might want to check that out, I'll refer you on to a kidney doctor." He, the kidney doctor, says all my symptoms should have been big bright red flags to all these other doctors. He, the kidney doctor, actually apologized he hadn't been able to "see" me sooner. Not his fault.

Got more snow today, but it won't stay long. Temps are all over the place...freezing at night, thawing by day.

Snap1243.jpg

So many car accidents as people apparently all on drugs, don't know physics, or that winter is slippery.

Waiting on three packages: one is the re-shipment of my thermos lid, one is a cheap heat gun for wrapping batteries that I really need to do, and the other is something I should've bought long ago: an electric meat grinder.

My ancient cast iron hand grinder works for Milly's food, but makes a pretty poor product and chopping 1lb+ of meat into 3-4mm dice by hand is a serious PITA. Plus, I'll be more likely to want to make my own burgers, sausage, etc. I can also make larger kitty food batches and freeze 'em for convenience.

The good ones cost well over $100 and are pretty much overkill, so I found a nice middle ground and got this one: https://www.amazon.com/Sunmile-Electric-Grinder-Sausage-Maker/dp/B07Y1P6TFS/

I think it'll be all I need for just me and the cat. Just think...I can make my own breakfast sausage as hot as I want and from cheap cuts of meat. Why buy pre-made when I can make my own for cheap, know what is in it, and have full control of the process? :D

I also dread having to make her food the way it is, so this'll help me be more content around here. $50+ is a pretty big purchase for me, but I'm gonna have this cat for many years to come so it'll pay for itself easily in stress relief and costs over time.

Milly won't have to bug me for her food either as it'll always be made up.

Everyone wins.

Just finished making a batch of Milly's food, and it's BRRRRR. It's like 58F in the kitchen and the meat is semi-frozen so by the time I'm done my hands are about numb.

But, this should be the last time I have to do it by hand. :D

It's Brrrrrr. IDK why as it's supposed to be warmer, but temps in the 30s feels a lot colder today.

It's 57F in the kitchen, so nuked leftover pizza for brekkie today. Milly keeps wanting to go out and look out of the windows in the LR, then flees at warp speeds back in here merrowin' her head off. She's got hella thick fur, but still gets chilly.

Basically, SSDD today, not much of anything going on.

Work this evening 3:45 to 11:45. Yes I'm home earlier, I finished earlier, still counts though as a full shift. Had two half shifts, one in Sandyville the other in Ravenswood.

Finished Sandyville and went for lunch break. Wife texted she had my lunch, come on out. Sat and had my lunch in the car, rode to Ravenswood. Took the full half hour for lunch.

Got alarm codes for both schools. I lock them up at night and am doubled duty as security. Told I may likely be alone at night to finish out each place if they can get me worked in.

Got told to not let the job rule me and don't kill myself. The work will be there. So yay, three full shifts in two weeks and maybe more to come. :) Good on pay day.
