Battery wrap check...

Have a couple of batteries with cracked/torn wraps so I got new wraps...

After a few tries, this is about as good as I can get it...

Any re-wrap pros care to comment?

Little spot on neg side that won't lay flat...

Pos side isn't perfect but I'm hoping this is good enough..

It doesn't appear you have an insulator between the wrap and the positive?
Wasn't one on it to begin with - older Aspire battery - the other is a year old Epoch, it had an insulator . Was wondering about that!

Aspire - translucent blue
Epoch - clear

Think I have a dead 18650 in my battery recycle box, I'll see if I can salvage an insulator and redo that one!

Glad I asked!!

I have 8 rechargeable AA's that my dad ripped the covers off of to use in a Magic Flight Launch Box, lol Hate to just toss them so I ordered wraps. after checking - None of them have insulators so I'll salvage some from dead AA batteries in my recycle box - glad I forgot to take these with me on my last trip to recycle station!

Ok re-wrapped the Aspire with an insulator off a dead 18650.....

Managed to salvage insulators off of some dead 14430's and a few dead AA's - all rechargeables.

Can't get that wrap to sit tight on the pos side - one little piece sticking up... though about hitting it with a hot knife to see if I can press it down...

EDIT: Heated it up again and pressed it down on a piece of cold metal -llaying flat now!

I'm not familiar with those batteries, but man I find it hard to believe one would come without an insulator. That would scare the hell outta me. Glad to see you were able to get one in there đź‘Ť

question what did you use to to heat the new wraps?? I am an american living in Medellin Colombia South america and have a hard time getting information here they basically sell and dont support. I am actually to the point I just put in an order with china to get items I cant find here. one of the things was the battery wraps. I have a couple batteries our new pup decided to chew the plastic. she is just teething so did n damage to the battery just the wrap

I haven't done any re-wraps myself, but while reading here in the forum, I've seen where people have mentioned using a heat gun or a hair dryer.

I got wraps from eBay and FastTech - FT is no longer in business though. Hard a hard time finding the right size for AA but there are plenty of 18650 wraps on ebay and Amazon...

I used a heat gun, briefly and on lower setting. I tried with hair dryer first but found that it takes longer and therefore heated up the entire battery significantly. I read that overheating can damage or even cause venting (explosion) so I was careful to just do quick passes with the heat gun, on the lower of the 2 settings. I had some issues with the ends not laying flat so, after the battery cooled down, I hit the ends again with heat gun then pressed it flat against a cold metal plate - this solved the issue.

Here's a nice video on battery wraps:
Personally I have never needed to do this (I am so OCD about my batteries) I even have extra wraps but didn't need to use them. I guess some mods tend to be hard on wraps but has not been an issue for me.

Im not a 'battery' expert, but i have done a lot of shrink wrap and those r good shrink wrap jobs, the hot knife was a nifty idea i will definitely keep in my back pocket case i ever need it
