I didn't think it was that bad. They are obviously trying to sell their jobs as support, but they seemed to be at least keeping an open mind.

Public Health Consultant Dr Andrew Carnon said the trend was being mirrored across Scotland.
He said many people saw e-cigarettes as a stepping stone to stopping smoking.
Nationwide figures have shown a similar trend to those in the south west of Scotland.
In 2013, the Information Services Division reported that the number of attempts to stop smoking had fallen by 13% compared with 2012.
That was the first decrease seen in recent years and it was also suggested this could be "partly explained" by the rise in the use of e-cigarettes.
Dr Carnon said that although there was still a lack of evidence about their effectiveness, the NHS might have to review and adapt its smoking cessation service in the future.

They'd save their jobs if they incorporate ecigs into their cessation protocols. It'd at least give them some credibility.

Support is pretty important in the process, especially with ecigs since the learning curve is steeper than chewing gum or slapping on a patch. I know I wouldn't have succeeded giving up the butts without the forums for support.

Night Owl, you are right on target with both statements.
E cigs are, at the very least, a viable harm reduction method. Any step in the right direction is better then no step at all.
Lack of social support is probably the main reason why nicotine replacement has such poor results. After you buy the product, you are on your own. Not even the sales clerk cares if you succeed or not.

I find it funny that an article written in Aug, 2015 uses statists all the way back to 2012.

"The third possibility, which again would not be a great one, is that people who don't smoke might feel that e-cigarettes are something that are much safer that they would like to try," he added.

This is the part that really makes me laugh, people are not going to use e-cigarettes because some people might perceive them as being too safe...really...well it was published online it must be true
