Advantages/disavantages of square type tanks

Been vaping for about a year and half using mostly cartridge type ecigs and just purchased my first tank. Should have done that well before now. I have an inoken iclear and very happy with it.

My question. Been looking at the Innokin VTR and was curious about these types of somewhat square Ecig tanks. Their advantages or disadvantages.

I see they have a much larger battery capacity and higher watt ratings.

Please explain the difference.
Thanks,
Scottie

They are built like tanks, but hold no juice unless you do something horribly wrong.
ok if you are thinking about it as a mod for a tank to attached to ill put some of my pros and cons down.

Pros,
Price they should not really be more than 60 bucks. Great for what they are without crippling the wallet.
Heavy, I like that others do not.
Varible wattage and voltage.
Battery life depends on the batteries being used.

Cons.
limited, older voltage and watage limits.
The damned ring.. not many attys that narrow anymore.
Limited to .95ish ohm limits.

Honestly I love mine for a kayfun/rta set up, or if I venture into kanger or aspire land but it is not how I vape so it sits dejected.

If you are talking about box-mod style things like the MVPv2, VTR or such, yup. What he said.

But, if you are talking box mods like some of the DNA clones, IPV V3, the God Box, Segelei 100W Plus mod and other higher power devices with replaceable batteries, those are in a different category, IMO.

It's not the shape, it's what in it that matters. :)

(those old tobacco tins are a nice size for holding up my speakers...not for smoking anymore ;))

I have two MVPv2's and love 'em for what they are. I just don't use lower than say, 1.5 ohm toppers on 'em because of their amp limits. Now, my Chana30 box sitting next to them, it can do a lot more and it takes a replaceable 18650 battery of my choosing.

Hey if the vtr could be safely self modified to take a NAOS raptor set up I would be all over it.

Sounds like you're looking at gear that's available at your local shop. Better devices and prices are found online. Use what you have for a little while and you'll probably figure out whether it's doing what you need or not. If you end up needing more vapor, flavor, air flow, power, capacity, whatever, we can help you find other options for what you want.

Innokin is in the process of renovating their lineup ATM. Might be best to wait a little. A new version of the VTR may be coming. I'd say you might find a better price on the current model then as well but the 20watt version of the MVP is cheaper than the older one. Go figure. If you don't mind or prefer the weight, don't mind the limited selection of tanks that fit and are happy with 15 watts then I'd agree that finding an online source will be cheapest.

Have a MVP 2.0 AND it still sees use. Great for what it is but dated now. . . VTR is very similar with an odd ring, replaceable battery, and 5 more watts. The MVP 3.0 is on it's way. The MVP 20W is already out as is the innokin VV. Go watch pbusardo's review on YouTube. . . Good info there.

Just seems like there are better option out there. But maybe not at that price point.

Yeah if you're buying from local shop and looking at the VTR or MVP 2.0 I'm guessing you're paying $40-$100. The MVP and VTR are very outdated and still priced the same. I wouldn't judge anything based on the shape of it like someone above said its what in it that counts. Browse online and watch forums to find out what's good for your price range and expectations. It's going to matter a lot how you vape now and if you plan on diving deeper down the rabbit hole. I don't usually buy devices from local B&Ms because you're going to pay so much more than online, sometimes double depending on how many other vape shops are local. Vapingunderground, google, and youtube are all your friends when advancing your vaping knowledge.

Honestly this, and you can even do the whole buy once cry once and still have something that will last you a very long time.
Dna mods are dropping in prices some well below the vtr price in the realm of mpv 20 wattage range.

I will recommend the MVP 2.0 you can get it with everything you need (includes an i30 clearomizer and charger) for less than $40. What's good about this is that it can also serve as a backup power supply for your mobile devices. Great battery life. For the price it gives you a lot more.

Two more Istick's coming - 30 and 50 - as well. I swore I was going to let the dust settle before choosing a new compact mod - so I bought an Egrip while I was waiting....doesn't really seem to be settling...decisions, decisions.

Are you are looking at the VTR you might as well spend some more and get a Sigelei 100W or a DNA 40 box. I bet after having a VTR you'll want more and you can't do that with a VTR.

Jedi. . not everyone vapes at 200W or sub ohms at .01. . . . I rarely go above 35w and never below a.3 on a mech. . . . I still use my MVP with a kayfun, if not daily then at least three or four times a week. . despite owning an istick, ZNA clone, mechs, OK/R box mod etc etc.

Again, for the OP, I would watch pbusardo's reviews on youtube. I've always found them fair and very thorough with how he evaluates stuff.

I don't vape at 200w either. I usually drip around 60w and run my kayfun around 18w. It's not a matter of going up to 200w its the fact that Innokin prices are the same as they were a year ago but the cost of better devices is lower.

I bought an MVP starter kit for under $40 a year ago as my first "serious" non ego/stick device. For that price, you can get the "2.5" 20W MVP now. A quick Google search shows this. . .
http://www.vaportekusa.com/innokin-mvp-2-5-20-watt/

Second "serious" device was a k100. Only thing left of that k100 is the case it came in.
Innokin makes a tough product. It's not the sexiest, but it will put up with hard use and abuse.
The innokin still chugs along with marginally less battery life. I did mod the eGo connector to a Fat Daddy 510. . . But that's been taken care of in the 2.5. .

I would hazard that the issue is not the product, it's the various retailers (esp B&M store owners) who are unwilling to drop prices, hoping to make margin before people find out that they are stuck with last year's product.

Doesn't Innokin have MAP pricing?

IDK, I waited until nobody wanted them to get one on the cheap. ;-)
With an Aerotank v2 on one, it's a great bit of kit.

Funny you mention the K100, that was my first mech when they came out back in late 2012/early 2013, I think it was. Still using mine. :)

Not being any kind of retailer, I have no clue about minimum advertised pricing, but 101vape is selling the 20W for $38.99. . .

As for the Kamry, I still have it somewhere, but a Great Dane puppy did for the 510 threads by jumping on my lap while I had it on my hand. Nuts were more important. . .

This is some great info and advice and definitely appreciate all responses to my question. Will definitely buy online and have decided to get one as a backup for use mostly at home or if my iClear is low on battery juice when I go out, but know hurry. I had only gone to my local vape store to check their their juice flavors and just decided to try a tank type while I was there.
Thanks a bunch everyone

As an aside, I got a istick because I was too impatient to wait for the MVP 3 to drop. It's been a good device but it regulates high and fires hot. I don't like the fixed 510. . .and the lowest it fires is 1.0. . You have to balance the pluses and minuses on any device.

It does fit in pocket quite nicely, has a decent battery life, and will fire a decent build in an RDA / RBA.
