I finally made some alien fused claptons 3 28g cores wrapped with 38g. They came out decent. I did the no stretch method. The first set I made I threw out, the second set came out pretty good. Any tips on how to get a little bit better?

I can't really give tips, but congrats. You should posts these in the post your builds thread. They are good people there with allot of talent. They'd be glad to help in any questions you might have.

Well, its difficult to see your photo very well but an Alien coil should look like this:

Then watch some tutorial videos and keep practicing brother! I'm an Alien specialist and I'd be more than glad to help you!

That is what I've been doing. I'm going to try again today. I think 2 things happened as pointed out by @KingPin! that my cores bunched up and that I was holding my wrap too far forward. I did not pre-stretch my wrap. I watched that sherlock hohms dude and tried it doing no stretch. I'm wondering if for learning sake I should stretch my decore first then try it.

Sherlock Hohms is an idiot. Dont follow him. His Aliens are sloppy, and he takes forever to build them. Keep your cores flat by good prep work. Stretch your decore but don't overstretch. Less is more here. Then grip grip grip. Gently but firmly. Lead the decore approximately 5 degrees and wrap like hell!

Okay. How do you usually stretch your decores by hand?
Pinch the end with the "tail" with smooth jaw pliers. Pinch opposite end with your fingers. I generally run about 1 foot of decore or so, then stretch just a bit less than both arms will extend. Also remember; your decore Clapton should be spun in the opposite direction of the direction you will wrap the decore for your Alien coils.

Yes that part I knew. Alright. I'm going to try it tonight. I just ordered some ribbon wire too to give the framed staples a try eventually. I really like my 3 core fused claptons, but I like the way aliens look. I'm not sure if it makes any difference in performance but

I pull the top part of the slinky out just enough to secure it the the 3 cores ....then take the other end and walk it back to stretch it (don’t let go!) ...I stop every now and then and check how far it’s stretched over the 3 cores ....as I said in the build thread I slightly understretch mine so I can apply a little tension when wrapping...

Helps if you don’t have carpet here though ...otherwise you’ll need something to stop it snagging as you wind on

as vaperoxx said 5 degree forward and start/stop moving slider forward as I go

:giggle::giggle: happy days! Honestly it’s really hard to describe in words I think one of those build vids in here gives a good idea of a good stretch pitch

there is no right or wrong way different people like stretching it to their liking ...best bet is to make up 6 or so Clapton’s ready for de-core. That way if you screw up it doesnt feel like such an uphill struggle starting from scratch again ...you’ve already done the boring bit plus you can have a go on different stretch lengths until you get really close or nail it :)

I have been watching some other ones here at work. I will definitely make up a few claptons before I do it. That is a great idea. Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for all your help!!! I made my first set of successful aliens last night! I figured it out thanks to your tips. I was OVERSTRETCHING the wrap. Or understretching and applying way more pressure than i needed when building. They came out freaking beautiful. They are at home and I am at work, but I am ecstatic. I use my profile w/mesh probably 50% of the time and my other 50% is split evenly between my Dead Rabbit RTA and my Intake RTA so I like having nice coils to throw in there.

I also got my flat wire in yesterday and made some Framed Staple Claptons. Not alien. I will try that next. The framed staple is easy for me. It was just getting my frames around the flat wires that took me a minute. I'm wondering if I should just stick to one style and get that down or if I should mess around and find what I'm good at. Any suggestions?

framed staples are awesome and to be honest I prefer making them or staggers just hate the prep work work aliens ...fraliens though if you can have the patience to knock them out are superb

It's always good to good what you're good at. Once youhave that you have a good staple build to use when you need a good coil for every day use while you practice others.

So i threw a 6 wrap in my intake which is at .27ohms and i love it. I think I'm gonna try some fraliens because they look and vape amazing. But I really like the framed staple. I want to try staggered staple but I don't know how to do the spacing.

If I remember right n.divine83 has a video on his YouTube channel for that coil. Eventually I'll try that, but need allot more wire first. Son, very soon :)

I mean there is really one word that sums up why I decided to give it a shot. Prime. 2 days. Free shipping.

EDIT: If you type in the type of wire you are looking for into the search it will pull up different options. KBEE even has some on there. so like 28g ni80 wire or 36g ss316l

Nice! I'll have to wait for income tax to come in, might check out Temco too. You can get allot of wire for a decent price there. That's where I got my first 24 & 28g ss when I first started building before I knew that I needed a smaller gauge wire for my clapton outer wrap LOL. You live and learn.

I did the same thing dude. Don't feel bad. I bought like 22 and 26g thinking that was fine. Never use the 22G

Oh, I would so do some 22g for a good mech build, but just have never bought any. That is a serious cloud chasing build :)

Save this thread to favourites mate it’s well handy for all you major coil needs - mach1ne put together a glossary of all of the how to posts here in the coil section

hopefully some of you guys can help me out again. So I have made a few sets of pretty solid aliens. I do run into one issue though and it makes me want to smash my drill into a million pieces and smelt all my wire down into a huge ball and throw it in the ocean.

So when doing like a 3 core 28g ss316l x 34g wrap, if I don't stretch the wire perfectly my cores end up collapsing. It seems like it's from putting too much pressure on the wrap wire, but then I don't want to overstretch it either because that will be worse. My cores will start out fine, then after getting like 3 inches the wire furthest away from me will pull over the top and they get crossed. I am using stuff to keep the cores straight down the line, but it happens anyways. What can I do or what am I doing wrong?

Alright so another quick question here too. So I tried making some more last night and came out with perfect mohawks (which I don't want). Is this because I understretched the wrap? I am thinking that is the case. My cores didn't collapse because I put way less pressure on the wrap wire, but I ended up with Mohawks, not aliens. I've watched plenty of videos and I know the basics, it's about practice at this point, but videos usually only show how to do things right, they don't tell you why something went wrong.
