Alleria - wicking without leaks (help)

Hello, I'm making this a separate thread from the big Alleria one for those needing specific help on this issue. Feel free to move it if you disagree of course!

I received mine on monday, love the looks and design of it. I made a pair of SS 8 wrap coils, burned and shaped them in place, then wicked fairly tight with cotton bacon. This time I ran it all the way to the bottom through the juice channels. Filled it up, twisted the juice open a couple of turns (can't see how far up it is easily, glass in juice). When I looked back in a few minutes it was about empty, and juice all over the place.

Rinsed it off/out, rewicked, didn't open juice flow as much, still leaked out another 3ml juice.

Now I've rewicked it, stopped the wicks in the channels, not going to the bottom. they're snug, shouldn't allow any juice by... apprehensive about pouring another 3ml through it.

What's the trick I'm missing?
My guess is i'm opening the juice flow too much, how many turns do you recommend just to get some flow? Just a tiny bit, like half a turn? There's no gasket holding juice from flowing around the ring that holds the wicks in the juice channels is there?

Any assistance appreciated!

I've been getting sufficient saturation at 70W with only 1/4-5/8 open on the jfc. I wick with rayon.

Excellent, thanks roxy, I was certainly cranking it open too much! I'll give it another shot with minimal opening.

Everyone's wicking is different, so my advice is start with opening just a little, and go from there. At least on the Alleria, you can see how your wicks look, which helps a lot.

I've looked, I think so. I know the bottom clear one is there.

I've been being much more conservative on opening the juice flow. Got several dry *cough* hits, but I think it's working for me now, think I'm getting it.

What's the
PG/VG of ur juice?
Spaced SS?? Hmmm?
You don't need a lot of cotton of the ALLERIA
Just enough on top of the juice slots

pg/vg, hrm, self-made, all VG except for pg from the concentrates and nicotine, so something like 80/20 or 75/25, not sure the 3 juices I've tried.

spaced SS 2.5mm coils

just the thickness of cotton a 2.5mm calls for, going just barely out the bottom of the retainer ring, or, visible at the bottom of the retainer ring.

I think it's working well now, turned up the juice flow a bit more (to keep up with the temp, wasn't getting much flavor at 35 of course), still dry outside!

OK, several more builds with no leaking, now the OTHER side of the issue. Burnt cotton!
I've been varying my wicks, using cotton bacon v2, from big and tight in the 2.5mm coils, to looser, and though my looser wick is better, I still keep inhaling burnt cotton.

I use a mutank rta all the time (big thick wick channels) with zero problem, 2 billow v2's that rarely do I get a burnt hit, 2 goblin's and an avocado also, no issues.

Not frustrated quite yet, still fun to play with and try to figure out! But MAN sucking burnt cotton is horrible *cough cough* lol. I'll watch some videos, try out wicking a few more times before I bother you again with "help!" :) I've only tried it like 4 times so far.

ps Mentioning my other rta experience just to say I'm not a total beginner, I'm still very close though, as evidenced by my troubles!

Doesn't opening the jc more solve it?

Lol, was opening too much, now not enough? No, I got the wicking down so that it doesn't leak even when wide open (though I close it down when not using so it doesn't oversaturate)

Now my wicking apparently isn't drawing enough, can't get a full hit. I notice roxynoodle uses rayon, I'm still using cotton, but I'll do some rewicking and messing around with it for a few tries, post my results.

I've gotten my other rta's down pretty well, but I'm JUST over that hump, need a few tries to figure out this one's wicking I guess. Methodical will take me a few times but I'll most likely get it!

I cut mine so you can barely see it below the wick ring, just barely peaking out.

Rayon does wick better and faster IMO.

can you recommend a good source for rayon? I haven't seen or used it since pre-sub-ohm (!) days!

Just re-purposed from a beauty supply store or is there a cellulocotton/rayon special for vaping?

I just use the stuff from Sally's. Some people swear Fiber Freaks is the best, but I suspect it's the same thing repackaged to sucker vapers.

Still haven't picked up any rayon from Sally's...

BUT, I've now got down the wicking on the Alleria. Seems I tend to lean towards error in the trial/error learning process. Make all the errors first, then I REALLY understand what not to do!

Working great. Also got some coils from raymo2u and using them in it.
