Another Smok Alien TC Question

Hi fellas, first time posting here, so please go easy on me. :)

I've been reading, watching videos, doing all kinds of research and experimenting but i couldn't find the correct TCR setting for 316 and 316L for the Smok Alien.

Firmware is: v1.3.2(Latest)

Experiments done: Burned a lot cotton(dry cotton test), tried TCR settings 88-92-108 and some more. Also tried various Watts and Temperatures as well.

What i've is UD 24GA 316L 10 SPACED wraps on 3MM ID dual coil. Ohming at 0.228ohms.

I can't get it to work right. It is either cutting down the power all the way or flat on full power. I can't get a consistent vape. I'm an avid around 0.2ohms dual fused clapton Ni80 user(2x26ga wrapped with 36ga, all Ni80), make my own coils but i wanted to try something else. For outdoor usage mostly with RTAs. I only use RDAs when i'm home.

I know Alien is not a good TC mod but i'd really love to get it to work the TC with 316L. I watched the DJLSB video, visited his website, read some reddit posts but i couldn't get a solution.

Long story short, can please tell me the correct TCR setting, if there is such a thing ?

Sorry for the long post and as i said please go easy on me.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Have a nice vape fellas!

Yeah, it gives 88 for TCR but obviously that didn't work right. My build is in the first post, still couldn't find the correct setting. :(

For 316L I think it was 92 or 94 from what I can remember. My cheat sheet didn't transfer phones. :(
I will add you are correct, that is not a good mod for TC. I could never get it consistent.

Thank you for the responses. Yeah i know Alien is not a good TC mod. My other mod is Sigelei Spark 90W TC and it is phenomenal in TC but unfortunately it has no SS mode.

RDA with the mentioned build is out of the rotation but i'll try 92 and 94 as soon as possible and give feedback.

Again, thank you all, see you soon.

92 doesn't work.
94 passes the dry cotton burn test but actual vape is "unvapeable"(if there is such a word lol). It either scorches or fires like 20-25watts and cuts it back imidiately. So, 94 doesn't work either.
Trying 108 atm. but still it plays with the power too much, no consistent vape.

I guess it is time to give up. Even though i love this mod(wattage mod & form factor & onboard balanced charging) it is SS TC uncapable.

I'll look into saving some funds and get another budget mod just for TC and use Alien as a wattage mod. Yosta Livepor 160W seems doing good on the SS TC front. Or maybe an IPV mod with a YiHi chipset. I don't know yet.

I'm really really sorry about this situation because my build is as generic it comes. UD 24GA 316L SS wire, 10 SPACED wraps around an 3MM ID dual coil. It is what DJLSB does on his reviews as well.

All i wanted was a warm(not hot, i don't like hot vape), consistent vape that doesn't get hotter the more you stay on the power button. Smooth, consistent, long inhale vape. But i guess it can't be done with Alien.

Anyways, if there is someone out there with the solution i'd appreciate it a lot but if not i guess it is the end of the road for the Alien TC adventure.

Thank you all for your inputs.

Have a nice vape fellas!

Edit:

Testing 108: You get a few seconds pull with scorching hot hit, let is sit down for a few seconds, and you go again, now it doesn't vape at all. So, 108 also failed.

I am not sure what you mean as a budget mod but look at the IPV 8. I have heard good things about the TC and just the mod itself. The Yihi chip chip is a very good chip. I have yet to order mine so this is totally on what I have read through the forums.

A bit necro in response but this has been my experience as well. I don't think it's the tcr settings, I've set them manually to .00092 for ss316L, single coil, dual coil, fused clapton, simple single wire spaced or contact coils, makes no difference. The tc on the alien sucks. I love the form factor, the shape, handfeel, firing bar, oled screen etc. Just wish the tc worked. The temp control on my istick tc100w is much smoother and actually functions properly.

Best way I can describe the tc on the alien is like a moron who doesn't know how to drive a car. In their feeble attempt to maintain a set speed either lets their foot completely off the gas or floors it creating a wide swing and very inconsistent experience vs 'feathering' the power to maintain smooth performance.

I've been looking at others with better tc performance. I feel sorry for those who this is their only mod and they think this is what tc is like. I didn't expect it to be dna level of control but given the decent performance from a $27 istick, yea I expected more. There's a happy medium and even when not paying a premium for top notch tc the less expensive mods should still be capable of 'decent' performance. Really the only thing about the alien that disappointed me.

If you have an A version, you can update to v1.3.2. They definitely improved TC, but that's not saying much given where they came from. It's now sort of usable, but far from a DNA board.

I literally JUST started futsing with TCR on the Alien mod myself (updated to 1.3.2), ss316L clapton single coil @0.576ohms on a pulse 24 bf rda. I HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE, but i found that tweaking the TCR didnt help at all, only hurt me. stick with 92. what i did to fix the peaking out to rolling off the table temp shifts was tweaking my firing wattage compared to my peak temp. i run it at 500F/80w and it works BEAUTIFULLY for 1.5-3 second pulls. no burning cotton, temp protect kicks in perfectly on a dry wick.

But thats just my experience, i was a TC virgin prior to about an hour ago and dont have a frame of reference other than normal wattage control, but i will say my experience was extremely positive and im instantly converted to TC vaping now.

If your going to get another mod for TC I recommend the Smoant Battlestar. Easy to use, 40 bucks, feels good in the hand and does TC with SS almost as well as my DNA mods.
