Hi All, Anthony Vapes back here with my review of the Squid Industries Double Barrel 2.1 mod

Review Disclaimer
I review products for what they are with no account of where it comes from or who makes it. The test results are the results for what is in my hand. Due to possible QC difference your experience may vary. There is no way for myself or anyone to predict if a device will last 6 months, 1 year, 5 years etc. Any manufactured item from cars to phones to computers to mods have a possibility of arriving DOA or having a small percent failure rate. There is no way to predict this or quantify this. That’s why warranties and lemon laws exist. I can only review what I have in my hand for better or for worse. Contrary to popular belief, there is no special review samples of higher quality. Most of the time personally i get retail versions, the few times i’ve gotten early releases they are usually worse than the final retail version.

Reviewer Disclaimer
I decided to add this disclaimer in as i feel it’s important for people to know their source of the review. I’ve been vaping since late 2011. I’ve vaped all the styles from MTL to RLH to DTL. tanks, RTAs, RDAs, you name it. I do prefer the DTL and RLH style over MTL personally. My main focus from an atomizer is flavor. For mods i’ve used mechs and regulated mods. I’m an avid temp control vaper but enjoy power mode as well and the occasion mech useage for nostalgia. I’ve been doing reviews since late 2016. As of Jan 2018 I’ve done over 100 written reviews and done over 150 video reviews on my channel, Although i’ve taken a break from videos in the past few months to focus on written reviews.

I spend a lot of time helping vapers on forums as well and try to answer all the questions and comments on my reviews. I’m not an “out of the box” reviewer. I do my best to be thorough at all times. All mods get tested with an oscilloscope and stress tested. At times if needed i’ll disassemble them as well. Rebuildables get multiple builds in them. Tanks i use all coils until the die or a minimum of 2 weeks if they don’t die sooner. I do this for the community to help people find good products and avoid bad ones. In my opinion a reviewer works for the community and nobody else. It’s our job to inform vapers of issues and not be advertisers as well as provide constructive criticism from a place of knowledge back to companies with these reviews so they can improve and make better products in the future.

Initial Impressions and features
When I first got this Mod, i was pretty impressed with the feel of it. It’s solid as hell, they opted for stainless steel instead of the usually zinc alloy we see. The battery door is really tight, and i’m, not a fan of the style but i’ll go over more of that later as it’s supposed to loosen over time. It’s a simple mod with 1 button, a dial that clicks when you spin it to adjust up or down and you press it in to fire. No modes or menus. Overall though i really liked the mod from the start.

Watt Mode Performance
Let’s get into some data. I ran my normal testing. Testing resistances were done at .12 , .15, .2, and .51 ohms. wattage points were max (150), 100, 75, 50 and 25. At .12 ohms it maxed out at 140 watts and 34 amps. For the rest of the testing it hit low 1-6 watts the lower the wattage the more accurate it got. Pretty standard for most mods at this resistance although the 34 amps is on the low side for dual mods. At .15 it maxed out at 143 watts. For the rest of the testing it less never off by more than 4. For the .2 test it maxed out at 155 watts. For the rest of the testing it was never off by more than 2 watts. For the .51 testing it maxed out at 109 watts and 7.469 volts. The rest of the testing it was never off by more than 3 watts. The volts shows there is no boost circuit in this mod.

Overall i found this to be a good performer in power mode. It’s right in line with most good mods. The hitting weak at .12 ohms is pretty normal when compared with other mods. It’s also accurately rated as a 150 watt mod. The amp limit is on the lower side for dual battery mods. The average these days is 40. They don’t list a max volts but the 7.469 is on the higher end for dual battery non boost mods at that resistance.

Compared with the Augvape V200
Since I recently reviewed the augvape V200 which is also a power only mode mod with a screen and dial adjust, I thought I would compare the 2 performance wise side by side. I have a side by side chart pictured above as well. At 100 or less watts, The performance is pretty much the same with a slight edge to the Squid DB. At the 150 mark, they mostly perform the same except for the .2 ohm resistance where the V200 hit really weak. The V200 needed to be turned up to 200 watts to be close to the Squid DB. The Squid DB despite being marketed as a 150 watt mod compared to the V200 being marketed as a 200 watt mod, Was able to produce 5 extra watts then the V200. The amp limits on both are low, but pretty much the same, and the volt limit at .5ish coil is pretty much the same with a slight edge to the Squid. All in all at 100 or less watts, the performance is pretty similar and won’t have any noticeable difference for most vapers. If you actually want to vape in the 150ish range, the Squid is a better option. If for some reason you need 200 watts, neither does the job. The V200 has options of bypass mode and hard preheat where the Squid does not.

Temperature Control Performance
This mod does not have temp control mode.

Other Usage Notes
The mod is designed to be minimalist with it being shaped like 2 18650 batteries side by side without being much wider or bigger, it is a bit taller than the batteries because the top is where they fit the chip and 510 pin. It’s not the smallest mod, but is is on the smaller side for dual mods and the form factor is very comfortable. It’s has a full rotating dial to adjust the wattage and you press it in for fire. So there is only 1 button/dial combo on the mod. The screen is small and on the top of the mod. It gives you power setting, resistance (reads live resistance) and live voltage. It’s also a bit on the dim side. The mod adjusts in full watt increments.

The Battery door style is not one I like. It works but it’s a very tight squeeze and leaves a gap with batteries in it. I’ve used this mod here and there for months and swapped out batteries probably around 50 or so times and it hasn’t gotten any looser or better. I would have liked a better battery door. There is also some minot paint wearing on the battery door edges, likely from squeezing it on so much. I tried to scrape paint off with my fingertip to no avail so I can't see it being an issue on the body itself unless you really scratch it. I also had no issues with the 510 pin nor have i heard any from the other reviewers or people. and it’s been out long enough that we would have heard it by now. Sadly the design of the mod only allows a 24mm atomizer without overhang. Los of the atomizers on the market these days are 25mm so I would have liked it to be a little bigger just to accommodate that.

Usage is simple. 5 clicks to turn it on or off. 3 click to rotate screen. Spin the dial to adjust wattage. Really intuitive and easy to use since it’s a power only mod without a million modes or settings.

Pros:
  • Performance
  • Build Quality
  • Accurately rated
  • color options
  • Simple and easy to use
  • Full Watt Increment adjustments
  • nice adjust dial/fire button combo
  • no rattle whatsoever
  • great form factor
Cons:
  • Battery door is hard to get on with batteries in it
  • low amp limit compared to most dual battery mods
  • only handles 24mm atomizers without overhang
  • screen is a bit small and dim
Conclusion
So with all that said, do I recommend this mod or not? I don’t do the hard yes and no, with this mod i’m going to lean a little towards the yes. It’s a bit pricier than some other options, but it’s built pretty tough and rugged i gave a no to the V200 because of the overstated specs but realistically speaking at 100 or less watts, you won’t notice much of a difference in the 2. Over 100 the squid wins out most of the time or they are even but at least the squid is accurately rated so that’s why i gave it a yes. It is a bit more expensive than the V200 as well and that’s just the honest assessment, so if you are choosing one, do what feels best for you. The squid however does deserve a spot on my list despite the minor cons so i’ll be adding it.

This is Anthony Vapes just keeping it honest, hopefully you all can say the same and i’ll catch you on my next review.

The Squid Industries Double Barrel 2.1 is the first mod from newer vape company Squid Industries.
To anyone reading this who might care if Squid Industries is new, this reviewer is really, really new. They were doing OKL Hammond boxes back in 2015. The 2.1 is the 3rd official version of the Double Barrel mod alone.

In the future, if reviewers wish to be taken seriously, perhaps it would be beneficial to fact check at least a little bit. I mean taken seriously by others, it is to late for me to ever take this individual seriously.:shades:

then don't take it serious LMAO sorry i'm not into facebook or every "mod maker" out there. I go by their official site
http://squidvape.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=18

don't really care if the owner sold other stuff off facebook before nor does it change anything the mod itself does. I'm not reviewing the company, i'm reviewing the mod :)

not to mention, you have a history of trolling and misleading people as well as claiming to own a shop, and likely want to peddle shitty products with high margins ;)
