Hey guys,

I've been looking at picking up an Anubis mech mod but I can't seem to find the authentic anywhere, so I'm considering picking up the clone from fasttech ( https://www.fasttech.com/products/3024/10010241/7179501 ). I've never bought a mod clone before and would value your opinions as to whether it's worth purchasing. If anybody could find an authentic for sale I'd be over the moon.

Cheers.

I cant remember where i got my clone but within 2 days the plastic screw under the button melted and the button popped off... 3fvape, i think it was. It took awhile but they sent me replacement parts and it works again but i dont use it in fear of the other plastic screw melting and shorting the mod.

Not really sure what caused this. Was only running .3ohm coils. Maybe it wasnt making a solid connection and heating up? Flat contact had less resistance than my coils? Who knows for sure but like i said, i havent used it since.

Maybe think about the noisy cricket v2? Dont own it but it looks nice.

That sucks you had a bad experience with the clone man. I was just talking to another guy who bought the same clone and the only problem he had was the button mushrooming out, but other than that he was happy with it. I went ahead and bought it, it only cost me $40AUD for the mod and the RDA so it was worth a shot. I believe fasttech have a 45 day warranty policy so if anything goes wrong I can either get a replacement or my money back. I'll check out the noisy cricket as well like you suggested.

I have the Authentic, love it but unfortunately I doubt you will find one unless you find one 2nd hand. I also on a whim got the Clone, it's meh boarder line OK mod. It's not a 1:1 Clone and is a mediocre at best. I ended up giving it away. IMO find something like the Samael which you should still be able to find

Thanks for the reply. I had a look at the Samael and it's far too expensive for me. Are there any other mech box mods worth checking out that won't break the bank? I'm looking at Australian retailers and all I can really find are tube mods.

I wouldn't mind picking up the piglet: https://vapoureyes.com.au/products/vcp-piglet-series-mod-red-black?variant=21474659652 - but I'm not really looking for a series mod. Something to consider though seeing as it's hard to find mech box mods here in aus.

Fastech had a Dragon Clone that was fair, the VCP is an excellent series Mod. The Vaping Bogan did a good review on the Geekvape Mech Pro, I'd recommend that one. I don't have it but that foul mouthed Bogan is one of the only Reviewers that I trust.

Could you link me to the dragon clone? I'll check out the Mech Pro as well. I may pick up the piglet tonight as a birthday present to myself.

Here's the Dragon Clone
https://m.fasttech.com/products/3909003

I also have the Authentic and Clone of the Elite. The Authentic the machining is exquisite and performance incredible. The Clone isn't bad at all. The performance is good but machining is OK, scratchy threads but if you take some emery paper to it you can smooth it out a bit.

I really like the Elite and it's at a good price too. Considering picking it up along with the piglet.

sounds like me and @Majistir had the same problem, but mine didnt melt enough to pop off, it just got squished so it wasnt long enough to press the metal contacts together. i fixed it by putting in a plastic shim and its still working fine...it just feels mushy. like i said in the other thread, i think i could probably get it feeling perfect with some epoxy and maybe a better spring. heres a couple pics of the main differences between clone and authentic (clone on left)
front.PNG
top.PNG
side.PNG
theres no brass on the clone, its a bit fatter and sharper in some spots and all the engravings are just painted. it fits a goon perfectly though, and the authentic actually ripped the wraps on a couple pairs of my 25rs (vtc4s seem to be fine), which the clone has never come close to. the authentic feels much nicer in the hand. it feels like something expensive lol (even a couple friends of mine who dont vape could feel the difference in them immediately).

Also be aware that the Elite is a direct to battery connection. It hits very, very well though due to it being copper.

Also with Clones they vary in quality and can change. Example I got a Brass Broadside Clone, was very good. I then got two Copper right after I received the Brass and the quality sucks.

The Piglet has a 510 pin, the Elite is direct to battery.

Here's a shot, my Authentic Elite is in the Center. Also don't mind that I've been using the shit out of them so they need to be cleaned,, badly ;)

You can barely tell the two apart. That's a well done clone right there. Nice piglet, that's the colour I want but all I can get at the moment is red and black in aus.

First Mech, don't get a direct to battery. If it's your first Mech I recommend the Dragon Clone. A series is a lot of power and you need to build high, => 0.4, more like around 0.5-0.7. If you do decide to go series get the Piglet with a 510 pin.

The Elite Clone the machining is a bit janky, you need to smooth out the threads.

Thanks for the advice. I'll stay clear of the Elite for now. I was going to build around 0.8 with the piglet as I like to vape around 80-90 watts. I think I'm going to go with the red and black piglet. :)

Piglet is a great Mod, I have 5 ;) 2x brass aluminum, 1 pure copper and The Big Pig (26650) 1 brass aluminum and 1 copper.

Direct to battery like the Elite you are restricted to only attys that have long 510 pins, where as with Mod's with a 510 pin you're not.

Honestly I say the Piglet, stay around 0.5-0.8 and you are going to love it. I love series because you hit the button and BAM you've got vape. It's also very easy to break down and clean.

The piglet it is! How important is it to regularly clean series / mech mods? I hate taking small things apart.

As with all Mech's very important and it depends on how messy they get. My regular daily Mech I will on average do a complete break down and clean every other week. On a daily basis I take off the Atty and wipe it down nightly.

Probably a stupid question but what do you clean them with?

I'm watching vaping bogan's review of the piglet and he's taking it apart in the video. Is it really necessary to take it completely apart to clean it? Seems very excessive and intricate.

not stupid at all, it's an important question.

Daily I use a damp cloth on the outside, then isopropyl alcohol on the inside of the 510.

Break down I use Wrights Copper Cream. Then on the threads I put a drop of Deoxit Gold, just a drop. This will help tremendously with maintaining good connections and smooth threads.

Also get a few Sunshine Cloths, they work very well to polish up the contacts and shine up the brass, copper, etc.

First time before you use it it is a must. Then it all depends on how messy it gets. You'll get the feel for it and have far down you need to go. I judge it by looking at the Copper connections and how much I over drip

Ah okay. I have hand tremors due to a medication I take and it's hard for me to do things with my hands that are small and intricate so completely taking it apart would be very difficult for me. I can handle RDA's fine but I still get shaky sometimes with the screwdriver.

Keep a decent quick daily wipe down and you will cut down the need for a complete break down significantly. Also a tiny drop of the Deoxit on the connections significantly helps also. Just a tiny drop though, you don't want it slopping all over.

Just a thought, if you're fine with insuring you have a good extended 510 pin on your attys or using a Kepler heat sink the Elite might be better for you.

Well, considering the cost difference the Elite may be the way to go as long as I'm cautious about my 510 pins.

Yep, it's super easy to break down and if you're having issues with small parts this would be better as long as you pay close attention to your 510 pin.

Also you may look at Kepler Heat sinks, I used them on my Noisy Cricket for attys that didn't have a long enough 510 pin. You can get them at fasttech in various sizes and materials.

https://m.fasttech.com/products/0/10010809/5020501-kepler-510-finned-heat-sink-for-atomizers

Also with so called adjustable 510 pins they can screw back in so I only use 510 pins that extend enough when they are tight. If they don't I just use the heat sink. Even with those you still need to insure that they extend far enough. So buy a batch of them, they're cheap.

So if you change attys loosen the battery, swap Atty then tighten the batteries.

Alrighty, just bought the Elite clone! Cheers ro55co for all the help and advice. Saved a shit load of money buying the Elite over the Piglet. Maybe in the future I'll pick one up but for now the Anubis and Elite should be good enough for me. :)

Lucky I just picked up some brass / copper cleaner, I'm gonna need it now!

Yes you will, also a necessity is the Deoxit Gold and some Sunshine Cloths, they're inexpensive. I was steering you twords the Piglet with the 510 pin until you mentioned the shakes. As long as you pay attention to the pins on the attys and tighten the battery to the Atty you'll be fine. Also the Kepler heat sink isn't a bad idea.

Anyway it's a solid performer. I had to touch up the threads with emery paper and once I put some Deoxit on it's OK. Certainly not smooth like my Authentic but it works. It's good for me to take out and about and not having to worry about loosing it for the it's 10x cheaper than the Authentic ;)

Enjoy and glad I could help, any questions just ping me.

For an inexpensive one the Dragon Clone, it's been a work horse but quality is just OK.

The Samael is a great quality on the lower price range. It's very easy to break down and clean. It's resin with all Gold plated copper. So cleaning is literally warm soapy rag.

The other is the Nookie V3.

Anywhere in particular where I can pick up just the Samael mod? The sites I've been looking at are only offering a combo with the baal RDA.
