Any tips on how to get a sour flavor / sensation?

I have been working on a sour skittles recipe using rainbow drops and Sour 20% by TFA and even when I use up to 8% TFA Sour, i'm still not getting much of a sour taste / sensation. Any tips on making a recipe that has that genuine candy sour taste?

I sometimes use Lime, if it'll fit the flavor profile. The one I use is FA Lime Cold Pressed. Usually at 0.5%, up to 1%.

I have tried a bit of Lemon Lime by both TFA and CAP but i'll try your suggestion as it will fit within the profile. Any other suggestions on how to get that pucker from something really sour and sweet (candy'ish tho)?

That's the most tart that I've used. It seems that somebody makes a sour lemon flavoring, I can't remember if it's Inawera, or not, though. So, I will tag @Daintanee because she just LOVES sour vapes.

Good luck! I hope one of those help you out, but I'm pretty sure she'll be able to.

Hmmm, well, I have had no luck with rainbow drops. Not sour either. If I want to pucker I tend to go with tart/sour flavors I have found. Fruit Express lemon from e cig express is a very concentrated tart lemon flavor. The best luck I had with a sweet/sour vape was my Kellogg's Citrus gummies.

Malic acid

This is what gives wine and green apples their sourness and what is used in those extra sour candies.

It's more sour then Citric acid and has a higher thermal decomposition point.

Search wasn't working for me here so...

But I'm sure you want cherry and grape in there? You might try maltic acid as nightshard suggested. I don't have it so I can't comment. Tfa key lime is a good sour lime as well. I get more bitterness from FA Lime cold-pressed than sour. Wish I could help more. I haven't tried one on one happy rancher yet, but it smells good...like a sour hard candy.

Since you have been using TFA sour which is 20% Malic acid in PG and at very high concentration and still can't feel it, then I can't help you.
Might be something wrong with your taste buds.

I think I'll have to play around... I thought it may be me as well but a had a few folks taste the recipe as well and 2 out of 3 suggested more sour... thanks for the help guys! Gives me a few things to experiment with! Cheers!
