Anyone using a Kayfun V4?

So I stopped by my local vape shop last night in search of a Kayfun or Orchid clone and managed to pick up an Infinite Kayfun V4. This was the first time I'd seen or heard of the V4 though I have seen the earlier versions. I was slightly thrown off by the juice control and multitude of parts at first, but I'm getting used to it. When I got it home I put a .95 ohm 24 gauge coil in it (10 wraps 3.0mm I.D). I'm vaping it at 20 watts on my DNA 40 with 70VG/30PG and everything is working well, two tanks in and no dry hits. Closing the juice control, filling, then opening the juice control takes a bit of getting used to, but it's by no means a deal breaker. I'm thinking about retiring my Lemo for the time being and making the Kayfun my all day vape. Anyone else out there using the Kayfun V4? If so what are your favorite builds/settings. All I had laying around was 24 gauge which was a bit difficult to use, but I'll be picking up some 26 or 28 gauge in the next day or two.

I use a V4 Clone, but got the wide airflow option. Normally I build a .7-.8 Ohm 26 Gauge coil. Works fine, yea, the juice control is a bit of a pain to learn, but it's nice to top fill. I vape between 15 and 23 watts, the amount of cotton in the build influences how much juice gets to the coil, it's a balancing act.

I've got the Robottech version and it's become my favorite tank. I recommend this experiment: build a single 30 g coil on a 2mm mandrel to about 2.5 ohms. Prepare yourself for flavor overdose.

I have 2 Tobeco KF4 clones. I use Silica in mine. I use 4 strands wrapped with 30g 6 times coming in at 2Ω. Great flavor with it.

Yay Ricks is here too now!

To the OP - yep I've got 3 Tobeco clones, they rule. Usually shoot for a 29ga 6/7 wrap that hits 1.5 ohms. My homemade juice rocks at 15w..

Never really interacted with him much.
The whole thing was just completely stupid.
I even tried to put it in perspective.
Anyway.....
Is ErnieKim, coming here too?
So what happened?

I don't know much about him either. I only liked him for his beliefs and his dislike of ping. I think he called that ping guy a troll. Ping is one of HB's followers.

Well, my outlook on the whole thing. Is they are entitled to their beliefs as we all are. But being buttheads' about them, cramming them down everyone's throats is just stupid.
The personal attacks are pointless, but that goes to both sides of the argument.
Ill gladly take a ban, suspension or whatever the hell, for telling him to shove it up his rectum

You haven't had any issues with the Robbotech version? Nikkita's review said that it muted flavor pretty bad, but otherwise was pretty favorable. I was thinking about it until I read that, then started looking for a Tobeco ... I still haven't picked up either though, kind of on the fence about the complexity of it.

No, I haven't had any type of muted flavor. Even aside from my experiment above at 2.5, it's been great with a variety of builds. I was concerned at first with the complexity too. In the end though, I think that if you take it apart once a week to clean it, you'll be fine. In fact I just bought another this weekend. That's the first time I've bought two of anything.

I did find the V4 a steep learning curve, but once you get it down it's terrific! I also bought two (an Infinite and a Tobeco)

Infinite came with extra parts - Tobeco came with a bad O ring and no parts!

I have had 3 Tobeco versions for a couple of months now. 2 running kanthal and one with ni200 builds. All have been working great and still running all the original parts that came on them.

I have 2 tobeco (stainless and black and the Infinite one that I got from fast-tech. They're all identical except the Infinite one comes with the bell cap. The infinite seems to be a tad bit thinner stainless steel (at least the 3 rings for the tank) but the Tobeco comes with no spare parts.

I run one with 6 wraps of 30 gauge ni200 twisted with 30 gauge kanthal - comes to 0.22 ohms . Thats on my Hanamodz dna40

the other one has 6 wraps of 28 gauge kanthal on a 3 mm rod stuffed to the gills with cotton. comes in at 1.3ohms. Thats for my high vg juice and it never dry hits

What does difference does the bell cap make for performance on the Infinite clone?

I've noticed no difference in performance. It's looks great but l don't use it because you lose the ability to top fill easily. I find it's a little more of a pain

Here's the kf4 bell cap, top filling is quite easy in my opinion. You just pop off the drip tip.
You do wanna make sure you're using a 5mm inside bore tip.
They sell these at vapinart. You also wanna make sure you're getting the Chris Munn bellcap not the 1q.

How do you top fill without it leaking when you open the juice control back up. Every time I tried, it would leak a little from the air holes. I love the look of it but got sick of the juice coming out the airholes for a bit. Maybe that's just the case with the one that comes from infinite.

I figured it leaked because of the air pressure when you put the drip tip back on.

I thought with the Infinite bell cap you had to bottom, fill no? That's why I haven't used mine yet!

People say you can top fill, but I haven't much luck. And bottom filling is a really PITA. I did away with syringe filling with my ce3 years ago

The trick is to find a driptip that makes the seal. Its designed to use the authentic stock tip or one with the same dimensions.
You unscrew the juice flow doamahickey pop off the tip fill and leave an airbubble for the pressure to equalize (not big but not small) pop on the tip but make sure your finger isn't covering the mouth hole, air has to escape. Then screw the juice flow back.
Basically its just like using the other method without screwing.

Or there's this from steam tuners which is also a really nice option. It uses the stock screw cap/drip tip holder thingy.

Its two different caps..the infinite cap fills just like the aqua..through the juiceflow holes. Not a biggie to me since I love the aqua; but, a pain in poop shute for some.
the original bellcap by Chris Munn with bellvape is the topfill that I'm talking about.
The infinite one seels at the chimney the bellvape one is open for insertion of the driptip.

Infinite cap on the left. Bellvape cap on the right

I bought an Infinite K4 and hate it at this point! I've tried several coils from .3 to 1.4 ohms. I've wicked it according to videos and I still get the nastiest dry hit after no more than 10 hits. I really want to like it, but at this point I am lost.
I feel more desperate than asking a cross dresser to the prom.

Any suggestions?

I love my Kayfun V4.

first coil I ever built was a double barrel about .8ohm
IMG_20150224_153116_473.jpg

This was the second, inline dual coil. around .5 ohms. Its great.

I have not seen too many people using duel coils on these KF4's. Have you tried a single coil?

Are you sure the liquid control is open all the way? Holding the tank at the bottom by the 4 air holes, tighten the bottom base.

Yeah, I've rebuilt and adjusted the dang thing front to back over and over. I even removed the airflow control screw for better air flow.

How thick is your liquid? Did you check the holes where the liquid get to the coil? Is the wick just covering the holes? Removing the airflow screw can make it more difficult to pull the liquid up to the coil. Got any pics of your build?

No pics on me at the moment I am at work. But you make a valid point that I overlooked. A YouTube reviewer did a detailed teardown and recommended just removing the screw, so, sheepishly I followed his advice. Perhaps by doing that I am interferring with internal pressures?
I'll try replacing it tonight and report back. I really, really like the device of it would just cooperate!

I have the Tobeco Kayfun 4 and I agree that the multitude of parts and the juice control can often be frustrating. I don't know about the authentic, but my clone has a problem with the 510 contact screw becoming loose after taking the atty off to refill it. This results in resistance fluctuations and I have to play around with tightening the screw in order to make full contact with the deck. Having to close and open the juice control before and after filling the atty is a needless chore.

Ever since I got my Kanger Subtank Mini, my Kayfun 4 has been sitting in a corner somewhere like a kid that refuses to behave. :D

Maybe some people just need a simpler atty??? My Kayfun V4's are the best atty I have ever used.

That connection issue can be ..... Improved. It wont solve the issue but it will make it less painful.
Pull the spring out and stretch it a little. Then pop it back in and off ya go.
Im not a huge fan of the atty... Let me rephrase. I can tolerate it with a bell cap, lol

I have the Tobeco not the Infinite. At the time I got it I was using mostly 80% VG juices. I found that wick length was critical to avoiding dry hits. Trimming it to JUST touch the deck solved any dry hits for me.
