Apple TV Apps Limited to Just 200 MB

Apps for Apple's newly updated Apple TV are limited to a mere 200 MB, and anything above that size limit must be streamed from Apple's cloud storage service, iCloud.

According to the app programming guide for tvOS, Apple's operating system for its all-in-one set-top box, "there is no persistent local storage for apps on Apple TV." That means every app developed for the Apple TV has to be able to store data in iCloud, and also "retrieve it in a way that provides a great customer experience."

Apple has a system in place to help developers master the streaming requirements in place for tvOS, and includes a list of "main ways apps can benefit" from being streamed from iCloud. Among the list of benefits are remote storage of rarely-used resources, such as an app tutorial, and "remote storage of in-app purchases."
